This makes me so angry.

The Vagina Museum, an actual go-to place celebrating, educating, illustrating etc.

Great so far.

But.

They can barely bring themselves to use the words 'women and girls'.

People.

It's more inclusive.

Aaaarrrrrrrrggggg

This interview was edited and condensed for clarity. OMG! How bad was it before they edited it?

It is littered with utter twaddle.

Fudgenugget · 15/04/2019 08:38

Sub "people" in most cases in the article with "women".

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/04/2019 08:39

Permanent museum due to open on 2032 so don’t hold your breath!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 15/04/2019 09:07

Interestingly, their crowdfunded hasn't raised much cash.

Might be something to do with insisting that penises should be catered for in the vagina museum? Dunno.

Hulo · 15/04/2019 09:26

Yeah. I'm not interested if it's just going to talk nonsense

NeutralJanet · 15/04/2019 09:33

Maybe I'm wrong but I read it as the museum being all about vaginas but that some people with vaginas are not female identifying, so inclusive of FtM identifying people who see themselves as male with a vagina.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 15/04/2019 09:36

Why don't we just have a bottoms museum and be done with it.

All bums are valid.

T1meForDebate · 15/04/2019 09:56

An arseholes museum

There's a penis museum, they don't have this coy problem with language.

Sophestry · 15/04/2019 15:01

Not all people who have vaginas identify as female, so this museum is trying to make everyone feel included. I interviewed the lady who is curating this museum and she's fab :)

Mumminmum · 15/04/2019 16:11

Even if people who are born with vaginas don't identify as female, they still are female and it is BS to claim that they are not.

Sophestry · 15/04/2019 16:25

Gender dysphoria is a real thing that can really effect people, so making small changes in language to be more inclusive of people who feel that way can really help them and doesn't really effect anyone else.

Quietlife333 · 15/04/2019 16:27

Maybe it’s not aimed at actual women as we have our own Grin

AlwaysComingHome · 15/04/2019 16:40

If the Harrops of this world had their way museaums would be the only place you could see an actual vagina, along with the dodo and the dinosaurs and everything else that found itself ‘on the wrong side of history’.

Gender dysphoria is a real thing that can really effect people, so making small changes in language to be more inclusive of people who feel that way can really help them and doesn't really effect anyone else.

And I feel excluded because my doodles aren’t hanging in the Louvre next to the Mona Lisa.

It would be such a small thing to pronounce me a genius.

AlwaysComingHome · 15/04/2019 16:42

I remember the penis museum on QI. Don’t they have an elf penis display?

feelingverylazytoday · 15/04/2019 16:54

Sophestry altering language doesn't really help people with dysphoria to come to terms with reality though, does it?
The fact is, the vagina is the correct name for this part of female genitalia, and only female people have vaginas. Why should people pretend otherwise?

AlwaysComingHome · 15/04/2019 17:03

I’m baffled as to why any transman likely to be triggered by the notion that women have vaginas would want to visit a vagina museum.

What on Earth do they expect they are going to see?

BadPennyNoBiscuit · 15/04/2019 17:09

AlwaysComingHome Yes they do, and the vagina museum should have at least one Sheela Na Gig.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 15/04/2019 17:15

Sophestry I'd really like to see a vagina museum. I think the idea is a great one - they are right, there is a problem with shame and stigma about female body parts.

But, I haven't donated. I was going to, but, if the museum is "first and foremost" about inclusion then it is just another institution making females lesser than something else.

We've got loads of those already.

It's fair to include trans men and women. Just not first and fucking foremost.

MenuPlant · 15/04/2019 17:20

Presumably will be plenty of different vaginal configurations on display eg those with "long clitoris" that they can ejaculate from etc

MenuPlant · 15/04/2019 17:22

I also think this will not go down well.

even though transmen nonbinary etc included

the mention of female anatomy is violently othering to peopel who ID as female but have different parts

i can't see this flying

no such issues with museum of cock obv

Barracker · 15/04/2019 22:12

Quite a lot of women are affected when well meaning twerps decide that all women must accept not being referenced by their own name because of some irrationally hurt feelings of a tiny number.
There are 3.7 billion people-with-vaginas, who, incidentally, often share a bunch of other rather crappy life experiences that correlate with being a person-with-vagina. Like, being denied the vote, denied bodily autonomy, held under male guardianship, FGM, systematically oppressed, excluded from power etc.
So before you make your museum for their body parts, I'd rather you stopped pussyfooting around and granted them their own name back first.

And if you've already adjusted unquestioningly to the concept of un-naming an entire group of oppressed people such that you can't even see the problem, here's a suggestion.
Think of any other oppressed group.
Imagine telling them they have to forgo having a name to describe themselves from now on.
Tell them it really doesn't affect them.

terfsandwich · 15/04/2019 22:30

By removing stigma from vaginas, they are contributing to society wide stigma about using the terms women and female.
Woman is not a feeling. Women have vaginas. If a woman, by some development condition doesn't have a vagina, she does not need to be further stigmatised by being used as an argument to justify male entry ism into womanhood.

Ereshkigal · 15/04/2019 22:30

There'll be a video wall with Jess Bradley's "My impossible vagina" on a constant loop
