Anyone come across this?

I've spotted a number of my brilliant, supportive, liberal, respected colleagues on there Sad

One of the comments is a prospective student threatening to "drop kick" TERFs at their institution Sad

I was dismayed to see that two of the most elite universities in the world could only rustle up four people between them who understood biology.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 18/03/2019 15:16

Grin yes, my RG uni was there with only 4 people.

BishooWishoo · 18/03/2019 15:16

@hackmum, I saw it linked to on a secret FB group, when one of the group members found herself on the list. I didn't mean the list was an fb group.

DirtyDennis · 18/03/2019 15:18

@Floisme Grin I suspect if there was a completely anonymous survey of academics, this list of HE TERFs would be much longer (albeit with no individual names).

Unfortunately, Universities are not supporting staff who speak out about the assault on women's rights so it's only those who are the most absolutely secure in their jobs who can do so. For people like me, early on in my career, still on probation, it's just not worth raising your head too far above the parapet. It's a shame because I dounderstand biology.

Floisme · 18/03/2019 15:21

I'm sorry if my post sounded flippant and I totally get how frightening - and ruinous - it could be to find yourself on that list. It's just that sometimes I think the only sane response to these loons is ridicule.

DirtyDennis · 18/03/2019 15:23

Oh no @Floisme you didn't come across as flippant at all. I completely agree with you Smile

I just feel completely frustrated with not really being able to do anything about the situation because there's too much of a personal risk Sad

Nasty, spiteful, stupid children.

wigglybeezer · 18/03/2019 15:30

DS2's ancient Scottish university isn't on the list and as it's just about to launch a gender studies department there's unlikely to be an outbreak of out in the open common sense any time soon.

Floisme · 18/03/2019 15:32

I understand that Dennis and I feel for you. I also think it would be totally unfair to expect the younger academics to take a stand. It has to be up to the older, more secure generation to lead the way.

It's the same in sport and in politics

I think it's been zapped from FB. I feel terrible for the person who spent "months" on the research for this Wink

All the professors in my department are gender critical, but are not willing to say anything publicly. They have told me (lesser-ranking academic) that I have their support, but what this means in practice, when they won't actually speak up, is anyone's guess.

worstofbothworlds · 18/03/2019 15:45

My campus uni has such a department but most of us scientists are happy to go by biology, thanks.

DirtyDennis · 18/03/2019 15:47

@GCAcademic That's such a shame.

Oh, I see! Thanks for explaining.

Glad to see it's gone now.

"Your name will also go on the list!"

NicoAndTheNiners · 18/03/2019 15:54

Hmmm, if Amari Dare gets her offer withdrawn for threatening violence against lecturers that will be one interesting conversation she will have to have with her parents (assuming she's an 18yo school leaver). Grin

GCAcademic · 18/03/2019 15:55

DirtyDennis - it is what it is, I guess. I have lost a huge amount of respect for my profession in the last 18 months. Both for the senior people who see this issue clearly but won't speak up, and for those who are executing a con on the public in order to progress their own careers, not giving a shit that it's vulnerable women who are going to suffer the most from the dangerous ideology they are promoting.

DirtyDennis · 18/03/2019 15:56

Seems like that Amari is a current Bath Spa student but there were some offer holders on there asking about the universities they are going to.

What a bunch of tosspots

OP posts:
NicoAndTheNiners · 18/03/2019 15:58

Well if she's a current student she could be subject to proceedings which could lead to her being kicked out. Sadly it's unlikely to go that far. She will say sorry, she didn't mean it, etc and will get off. Payment of fees is more important than protecting staff against threats.

OVAgroundWOMBlingfree · 18/03/2019 16:05

Bloody hell, menacing bastards.

BigGoat · 18/03/2019 16:15

I am not on the list.
I am personally offended.
Clearly, I need to publish a little more aggressively in the field. I am a sociologist.

gcacademic, I too have been singularly disgusted by the professoriate on this issue. The majority has either pretended to be unaware, or showed themselves to be considerably less clever than a professor should be in their engagement with, and sometimes support of, the broken logic of TRA.
