Twitter spat, obv.

The fallout from Anthony's recent initiative to arrange a letter from lots of men scolding women for disobedience. It's come to his attention that Helen Joyce of The Economist is non-compliant. He tweeted her employers about this stubborn refusal to fall into line, and then the next step was to demand a debate with her.

Said debate has now actually apparently been agreed to and arranged, but not before a series of tweets from him demanding that she sort complimentary tickets and perform admin tasks.

It's well worth a read, all screenshotted here for those who are blocked. He's also found time to demand a debate with Graham Linehan, with whom he's very upset because Graham has told gays what to do despite not being one himself. The irony was just too much there.

Thanks, Ewe - fascinating to read that. I wasn't quite able to follow it all on Twitter. But I can't pretend to understand what was going through his mind. What's wrong with him? Why did he keep on at her to hold the debate at the Economist event when she explained repeatedly that it was nothing to do with her? Surely no one's that thick?

He was grandstanding for his imagined audience. The truth is he is oblivious as to the many issues; but because he's gay and wealthy and influential he thinks he can put it about in whatever way he likes.

Yes, the point was that he had no intention of any kind of debate at all.

He thought he would bully a woman via her employer.

He got his arse handed to him the attempt.

In response, possibly to cover mild embarrassment at being shown up, he thinks it will be a wheeze to make a facsimile of 'conciliatory', and he's aware of enough of this topic to know that GC people complain frequently that AWAs do their #NoDebate, so he picks an offer of 'debate' as his weapon of choice.

He has no intention whatsoever of debating, because his core is still firmly #NoDebate, but he knows if he looks convincingly persistent about wanting a debate, his fans will have an example of him 'offering to debate' and GC people turning him down or being obstructive.

It's like he's providing a vaccination for AWAs against the critique that they won't debate - just as a jab against measles is a benign version of the disease, but is not intended to give you measles, Watson's offer of a debate was never intended to end in debate, it was meant to further frustrate any effective communication at all.

Also worth remembering that he and Riley aren't tweeting to convince anyone - the blocking of even mild queries should give that away. Their Twitter performances are all to keep their adherents ginned up and onside - hence the need to plug holes in their facade like #NoDebate.

They're priests in the Genderist religion remember. They are there to preach to the converted.

I don't think that this is "just" misogynistic rage. Although he has that in spades of course.

What a muppet.

He blocks people for the mildest of questioning his point of view.

So, his normal tweets are mostly only seen by people who know about him and who have never even hinted at not liking what he says. Followers are a fan club for him.

By paying to have his tweet promoted, it has come up on the timeline of loads of people who have no fucking idea who he is. They look at it. Scratch the surface of who he is and who Helen is and they can see a lot. They see him being a bullying misogynist rich white champagne socialist. Helen as a considered thoughtful balanced journalist for The Economist FFS, not the National Enquirer or the Daily Star. Hmm

He's a little emperor who surrounds himself with yes-men, so he never gets reality-checked, so he didn't realise how bad that tweet would make him look to ordinary people.

I don't subscribe to twitter, and am only recently aware of Linda Riley ( I heard her on woman's hour' with Julie Bindel. what is it that is motivating her, do you think? Do you think she might be trans identifying these days too?
