Trans women and periods

I'm just going to throw it out there - few things make me more angry than reading about trans women and their 'periods'. Now I know I've had them my whole adolescent/adult life and I know plenty about how they work (and how they impact your life when they're not straightforward, god I know about that) but where does this trans period bollocks come from?

Without a uterus or ovaries or eggs or uterine lining or any of that stuff, where does any sort of cycle come from? Do they take oestrogen on an artificial cycle with progesterone or something? Or am I basically affording way too much time and thinking to something which makes zero sense in the first place and should just ignore it altogether? 🤨

Even if there is some element of truth in "sore breasts and dreadful moodswings" I'm still going to be angry anyway, I guess. That's not a period. That's sore boobs and a moodswing.

Help me o wise ones.

It's pure fantasy.

AssassinatedBeauty · 08/03/2019 17:07

It's fantasy, fetish, appropriation, nonsense. It also distracts from any genuine issues that transwomen may face when taking cross sex hormones.

BettyDuMonde · 08/03/2019 17:07

I think we should start truly considering the space they want added to ‘transwomen’.

I think ‘transwo men’ could catch on...

Knicknackpaddyflak · 08/03/2019 17:13

Trivialising the experience?

Oh the irony, while busily trivialising women's experience of menstruation and the challenges that come with it. What's that line about drawing a nice warm bath of someone else's oppression and having a wank in it?

Menstruation is the loss of the lining of the uterus, passed as blood. Anything else is not menstruation. End of.

FermatsTheorem · 08/03/2019 17:13

Fetishising, appropriating bolleaux.

(I am having a bad period at the moment. I might be more than a little bit prone to get ragey about this crap right now. Still, at least I'm not going to be banished to a menstruation hut and die. Small mercies and all that... They can fuck off to the far side of fuck, and when they get there, fuck off some more.)

Mrskeats · 08/03/2019 17:14

Ridiculous. Periods need eggs and a uterus: that person is a nut job

MhairiV · 08/03/2019 17:15

Yes, I read some quite disturbing info about faking periods and similar horrors. There's definitely no hormonal link though, artificially created with drugs or otherwise? Nada? I suppose I just didn't think it was out of the realms of possibility that they might manufacture a hormonal cycle of some sort and refer to it as a period.

Yep. That's pretty much why I'm extra angry about it today Fermats Angry

Next it will be phantom pregnancies, if it hasn't already happened.

EarlyModernParent · 08/03/2019 17:17

BettyDuMonde that really made me laugh!

AssassinatedBeauty · 08/03/2019 17:18

That's still appropriation and total nonsense to call that a period. It's not. It's fetishing women to dress that up and call it a period.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 08/03/2019 17:23

Male people dont have periods.

If they are experiencing symptoms similar to mensuration, they need to seek medical help quickly.

Older transpeople shouldn't be telling lies like this on social media. Young transpeople may be experiencing serious medical problems and might not get help because they are under the impression that what is happy to them is normal. If a male is bleeding from their genitals something is wrong.

10IAR · 08/03/2019 17:24

Don't get them started on smears and how a "neo cervix" can be cancerous! Along with the bullshit changing the language around smear tests, as if it isn't hard enough.

killpop · 08/03/2019 17:25

I wonder how many transwomen have died due to sepsis after having their symptoms brushed away as 'just a period'.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 08/03/2019 17:27

But but but if 80% of transwo men have had zero genital surgery then what exactly do they think is happening? Are they all related to that 9 periods/£6.99 per year on tampons man?

MhairiV · 08/03/2019 17:30

I know I'm going to regret even asking this but what in the world is a neo-cervix? Is it the furthest away end of the...eh... inside out penis pocket?

BettyDuMonde · 08/03/2019 17:33

🙊

10IAR · 08/03/2019 17:35

Pretty much, and there were some fairly aggressive attacks on women on twitter who dared suggested that only a person born female (ie a pre op trans man and a woman) needed smears and could have cervical cancer. Anyone who disagreed was subjected to all the usual threats and aggression.

Given that my mother died of it, it got my back right up.

It's fucking awful.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 17:37

So where is the blood? Nicking your testicles with nail scissors to cause a bleed ain’t a period son.

Anyone with half a brain knows that a MAN cannot have a PERIOD and not all WOMEN have periods.

Once more for the slow kids at the back of the class: PERIOD havers are all women but not all WOMEN have periods.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 08/03/2019 17:44

FermatsTheorem I too am having another bad period right now, damn my privilege of having endometriosis huh? Some days I am too heavy to leave my home. It is beyond any other kind of appropriating I have ever seen, for males to claim they menstruate. It is sick and twisted behaviour from fetishists. My gran had a close transsexual friend I visited often, and I have had transsexual friends as an adult. NONE of them would ever claim this or any other part of womanhood and they’d be sickened at this creepy revolting behaviour. These are entitled males who cannot handle women having something they don’t.

WaddIelikeapenguin · 08/03/2019 17:57

CakeWineFlowers for all those suffering a lousy period right now

If you’re not shedding your uterine lining you’re not having a bloody period. If you’re a transwoman you don’t have a bloody uterus FFS Angry

nauticant · 08/03/2019 17:58

It's mendacity, mental illness, or both. Depending on who is saying it.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 17:59

You don’t hear if transmen claiming enlarged prostates or testicular cancer do you? Or shaving a chunk of their scalp and shrieking with excitement ‘ohhhh my male patterned baldness is soooooo terrible!’.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/03/2019 18:05

That's because they're not fetishists.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 08/03/2019 18:08

I do get the impression that men are more likely to be fetishsits than woman. No idea why I think this but they seem to be more ‘out there’.
