The problem for transwomen like Jane Fae is that their whole identity as a “real” woman relies on us playing along. The fact that the uppity women of FWR (of which I’m proud to count myself as a member of) don’t match up to the stereotype and don’t play along causes the whole of someone like Jane’s “I’m a real woman” identity to come crashing down. If women don’t behave like Jane, how is Jane really a woman? So first off the appeals to female socialisation, calls to be nice and when that doesn’t work, othering us as harridans of the far right.

Yes, loving the implication (not) that mother's cannot possibly be radical. Also, if the far right did try to recruit here on the feminist forum they'd be disappointed. Lots of women I've come across here are left as you get. My argument against gender ideology comes from a strongly leftist place (materialist politics), as it does for many gender critical people in the labour movement and beyond.

Why is "Mumsnetters" in air quotes? Are they suggesting we're in some way not real?

I'm with Kat. Women would never in a million years be taken seriously if they knitted on political discussion panels. Fae's theatrical knitting helped me to recognise the bog standard sexism of transgender theory. Long before I was aware of Fae's extreme porn advocacy via MN.

some really good, thought provoking discussions here. It all helps, as actually, we can't afford to be stuck in a left / right wing debate when it's to do with the safeguarding of women and children.

I wouldn't even give this headspace. They know the bast majority of gc women are left wing and hence that it might sting to be called right wing. Its just a playground insult because we won't toe the line and think what the men tell us.
