Quote:

" One UK feminist splinter has made it their mission to warn of the trans menace. On the BBC just a fortnight ago, a leading member of this group explained how the biggest threat facing women today was “the transgender ideology”.

So I’m biased. Not entirely convinced that upholding the rights of around 10-15,000 trans women in the UK (their focus) will bring on the gender apocalypse: whereas a toxic mix of cuts, austerity and unsympathetic government just might.

A recent schism within this group shows how wrong this can go. They recruited “Mumsnetters”, scarcely radical feminists. Surprise! Many of these were happy to sup with the far-right Heritage Foundation. Cue rapid backpedalling by people relying on the old maxim: “my enemy’s enemy is my friend”.

But then across a swathe of issues, from trans rights, to sex work to surrogacy, many of these already align closely to the right. So perhaps more apt: “Lie with dogs: get fleas!” "

end quote.

But then the writer is Jan Fae ..............

Oh FFS

OldCrone · 26/02/2019 01:32

Is this the same Jane Fae who is an expert on extreme porn and how not to get caught with it on your computer?

What a fucknugget. Seriously. This kind of 'thinking' is just idiotic. But prevalent among MRAs I guess.

Coyoacan · 26/02/2019 02:30

So, in a nutshell, if you care about women's rights, you are far right.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 26/02/2019 04:54

I am verklempt at the idea that idea that, “they recruited “Mumsnetters”, scarcely radical feminists.”

I was always a radical feminist, but FWR has been my gateway drug to greater activism. It’s a strange idea that mothers can’t be radical; try telling that to Red Jenny.

It’s a measure of their misogyny, the airy dismissal of women with children as people capable of radical political thought.

AnyOldPrion · 26/02/2019 05:18

Where did you read this gem?

OtepotiLilliane42 · 26/02/2019 05:21

Well, I don't think anyone would have guessed my far right tendencies when back in the day I helped to carry a life sized cruise missile (built by my husband) around my NZ town in support of the women at Greenham Common. All of the members of our peace group would have no doubt been photographed by the SIS on that occasion, though the local radio host who interviewed me afterwards was rather disappointed I think that no violence occurred during the march (save for I recall, a shout of 'commies' from a passing car of young men).
Halycon days!

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 26/02/2019 05:56

Where is this from?

Tavannach · 26/02/2019 06:10

But it's a massive forum.
There ARE a lot of hard right views expressed here - see any thread about Shamima Begum.
And tbh I avoid the feminist board because it seems so black and white about trans. There are issues that need to be discussed but I wouldn't try it on MN.

AnyOldPrion · 26/02/2019 06:12

Not so much black and white, as male and female....

littlbrowndog · 26/02/2019 06:13

Fae the well known feminist wrote it in the independent

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 26/02/2019 06:21

I remember India Willoughby being shocked that we didn’t just talk about prams. I think it’s because that’s what they mean when they talk about ‘cis women’. Domesticated, docile & deferring to males (whatever they identify as). It makes them angry that we don’t match their stereotype.

BertrandRussell · 26/02/2019 06:31

I think feminists in general find it very difficult to be gender critical- I certainly feel that my natural position would be wholeheartedly supporting trans rights, and I find it very uncomfortable to be in what on the surface is the illiberal camp. And the more the supposed link between “gender critical” and “ far right” is pushed the more uncomfortable I feel, even though I remain convinced that I am right. The cognitive dissonance is deafening.

But Mumsnet in general is very much to the right of centre. That’s why feminist discussion was shunted off into it’s own little cave in the first place, people complained about feminist threads in Chat!

BertrandRussell · 26/02/2019 06:34

“Domesticated, docile & deferring to males”

Have you been on Chat or Relationships lately? There are a significant number of posters- maybe even a majority?- that are exactly that!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 26/02/2019 06:58

loving the implication that seeing prostitution and surrogacy as exploitation of women aligns you with the far right

where did this implicit belief that left = good, right = bad come from any way

it's a thought ending cliche

EweSurname · 26/02/2019 07:03

Interesting that men are never lambasted for working with other people who don’t 100% align with their ideological positions.

By the by, Rachel McKinnon went onto Fox News and Stephanie Hayden went onto Russia Today but where are the accusations of “lying with dogs and getting fleas”?

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 26/02/2019 07:07

I knew there was a reason I spent most of my time in FWR!

TemporaryPermanent · 26/02/2019 07:08

Wow things have changed, seems such a short time since it was axiomatic on here that MN was stupidly left-wing and you couldn't expect any 'common-sense thinking' here but only 'rampant political correctness which nobody can really believe'. Now we're in thrall to the far right.

I do think that politically active people like to trawl (not troll) for outrage on here. And it's true that there are more and stronger right wing views expressed here than there used to be. I hate it It's probably a good thing. what I don't understand is how the rampant individualism of the idea of transgenderism is anything but comfortably right wing libertarian.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 26/02/2019 07:08

The fantasy of the far right and some kind of underground group is far more palatable than the plain, right there in years of publicly available threads truth. As with other unplalatable truths.

DpWm · 26/02/2019 07:11

Was it JF who kept popping up on this forum to post about feminists, specifically Posie Parker, aligning themselves with the far right?

Whoever it was rightly got a pasting each time.

At the end of the day it just proves how scared the AWA are, because they know our message is getting out there despite their best efforts to prevent it.

'rampant individualism of the idea of transgenderism is anything but comfortably right wing libertarian'

This ⬆️. It's the commodification of bodies. You can't get much more capitalist than treating mental discomfort with thousands of £ worth of facial surgery and hormones

Does the Independent pay for this incoherent simple-minded bilge?

One would think, if Thatcher and the other right wing female hate-figures mentioned had any lessons for genderists, it is that women can defy gender roles to be just as destructive, self-interested, murderous and cruel as men. It's just our socialization holding us back.

But then surely good genderists can see that these right wing nasty girls are clearly trans men.

FemalePersonator · 26/02/2019 07:37

That made me guffaw in a most unlady-like manner.
