The board is, ahem, moving fast today, and some marvelous stuff is getting buried in the monster threads. I thought this might be a good place to collect reports from on the ground in D.C.

Thanks to SpartacusAutisticus for posting Natasha Chart's wonderful, raw speech outside Human Rights Campaign:

Here is the protest outside Twitter:

Meghan, re the leftists shutting down the discussion: "Fuck them!"

OP posts:
GrinitchSpinach · 27/01/2019 19:35

Meghan: "I'm going to have a conversation with anyone who's ready to talk."

OP posts:

Panelist [I missed who this is! She's fab!]: "We're supposed to believe that 'lady brain' is more real than 'male penis'?"

"Your question was, will the right fix this? No, women will fix this!"

"I really resent being told who I'm allowed to talk to."

"This idea that we're supposed to save our political purity for our political husbands..."

I want a fire emoji!

OP posts:
GrinitchSpinach · 27/01/2019 19:53

Question: How do we respond to "Oh you're just obsessed with genitals? Because I'm not going along with gender purdah."

Brie: "I'm obsessed with their long term health and sexual function. There is nothing perverse in talking about material reality."

Question: "Intellectual cooties?" "How do I talk to people my own age [just graduated college] or younger about the fact this will affect your ability to enjoy sex?"

Brie: "Just be honest, and don't be afraid. Women have been hurting themselves for a long long time."

Kara: "It is so important that young people like yourself talk to other young people; they won't listen to a bunch of cranky old feminists."

Posie talking about social risks to young people for speaking out.

19 year old lesbian talking about being in queer circles and the pressure not to question medicalization of gender non conformity. Lost all her friends for being "unsafe" and "a Nazi" for asking those questions.

OP posts:
GrinitchSpinach · 27/01/2019 20:03

I think fab panelist upthread is Lierre Keith of Deep Green Resistance.

19 yo lesbian is a detransitioner who feels "let down" by the "enticing" idea that women can identify out of femaleness.

OP posts:
GrinitchSpinach · 27/01/2019 20:05

"These people who are supposed to be supporting you would rather you be anything but a lesbian."

FWRLurker · 27/01/2019 20:46

Bubonicpanic · 27/01/2019 20:51

WOLF are amazing. I have just been browsing the summer festival in california, very tempted to go.

Bubonicpanic · 27/01/2019 20:52

Thanks for the posts GrinitchSpinitch
It was a really interesting meeting.

They made some extremely useful points.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 27/01/2019 23:43

I hope the video is uploaded to youtube as I can't get access for long and when I do it's very glitchy - haven't got past the first speaker Brie who is making some very interesting points about contagions...

PencilsInSpace · 27/01/2019 23:45

One of the speakers talked about the move to include gender identity in the equality act (US equality act, not to be confused with the UK 2010 equality act). This would write into law at federal level that women could no longer have single sex spaces. She said if this gets to senate with gender identity included it is very likely to pass and that the battle now is to get it removed before the US EA reaches senate. She said this can't be done without speaking to the right.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 27/01/2019 23:56

Ah, that makes sense Pencils as to why the right has been involved - the left has a lot to answer for...

GrinitchSpinach · 28/01/2019 00:22

I cannot emphasize enough how unaware most Americans are of these proposed sweeping changes to our federal laws. There has been little to NO mainstream media coverage. The T movement is trying to slip these provisions in under the radar, no debate once again.

Now how to get the message out to 327 million Americans?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 28/01/2019 04:53

Someone has to do something outrageous and/or maybe get Fox News onboard :( I listened to a 10 min video of a 20-something American/ Aussie young woman who’s a trump supporter n right wing - her video about proposed changes to the law in Tasmania to allow parents to define gender was a great summary of all the issues and concerns and well researched - it also referenced the UK - I’ll go find it - where she’s talking about erasure of women and

You know what occurs to me is to get her to do a video Re the USA proposed legal changes and then ask her to get Fox News onboard. It’s a win win win - she gets the profile/Fix gets a good issue to get their teeth in and we get the issue out to a large audience. Also she has their backing of Fox in case of any flack( she’s not scared anyway)- I think she gets the points over well and it will go over best to the public from someone like her imo

womanformallyknownaswoman · 28/01/2019 04:55

Fox not Fix - though Fox will fix it!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 28/01/2019 07:31

America needs Man Friday don't they?

bless 'em, they really helped to break the silence women's legitimate discomfort at the clash of trans 'rights' and women's privacy, safety and dignity

maybe we could crowdfund to send some lime green mankinis over?

Oxytocindeficient · 28/01/2019 10:39

Meghan: "This is not a left versus right issue; this is a reality issue."

Here here!

Thanks for posting this. Far more important thread than explaining ourselves to transwomen dropping in to tell us what to do and who to talk to.

trumptrump · 28/01/2019 10:45

I was surprised by how small this event was. I thought it was going to be much bigger.

Were there protestors?

GrinitchSpinach · 28/01/2019 11:06

No protests; the event location was kept secret until the last minute. (It was the DC public library FYI).

It was hard to get a sense of the room because the camera work focused deliberately on the panel (seemed they were trying to protect the privacy of people in the crowd). I don't think the organizers advertised the talk very widely. In fact when I first heard it was going to happen (a few weeks ago) and went looking for details I found bupkis. So maybe they were trying to keep it small and manageable?

OP posts:
GrinitchSpinach · 28/01/2019 11:13

Fox will fix it

I would rather they didn't. Fox is in essence the propaganda arm (actually becoming a policy shop too with Trump's viewing habits) of the GOP. If Fox are the first to raise this issue, people on the left will dismiss it out of hand as right-wing fear mongering and bigotry.

I would much rather have the traditional trusted media look into the details of this legislation.

Unfortunately places like the NYT are completely on the T bandwagon and apparently very invested in telling us all to be good little girls and move over for The Most Oppressed Middle and Upper Class White Males Ever. (Despite their reader comments being fairly critical of this stance.)

OP posts:
Oxytocindeficient · 28/01/2019 11:46

Does anyone trust any media anymore?!

GrinitchSpinach · 28/01/2019 17:01

Livestream from today's Equality Act panel at Heritage Foundation should start in a moment:

Bubonicpanic · 28/01/2019 17:06

Thanks grintich. I'm baffled at how much traffic there is to the multiple threads having an argument about an argument than there is actually engaging in the work that is being done.

Hey ho.
