Apologies if this has already been posted. Did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Michael Conroy attended and recorded a mermaids training session. It's hair raising listening.

I believe that someone is working on transcribing this, which will hopefully make it easier to analyse. But wanted to post it to make sure it hadn't been missed.

“When you need that extra push over the cliff”😂😂

Thingybob · 20/12/2018 21:39

So it'll start at off, and it will get gradually brighter and brighter and brighter and brighter until the light is completely on, because light is on a ... ?

The correct answer to shout out if anyone goes to training is "VARIABLE RESISITOR"

CigarsofthePharoahs · 20/12/2018 21:58

Wow that was hard to listen to.

Melamin · 20/12/2018 22:02

Dimmer switches still do off and on though. They just have a big range of on.

VickyEadie · 20/12/2018 22:13

Even if the dimmer switch bollocks had been correct, still doesn't apply to the sexes.

KittiesInsane · 20/12/2018 22:17

Light is on a spectrum of frequency, FFS, not brightness.

And even though there is a continuum from red to green, it's best not to argue the point at the traffic lights.

Nightwitch · 20/12/2018 22:19

Is this Barbie/Gi Joe/jellybaby spectrum thing supposed to be used to explain gender to young kids?

How will the not trans kids react to this?
Surely most won't want to be an amorphous blob in the middle, so it's encouraging the majority of children to consciously play up to the pretty airhead /macho violent extremes. If they're being taught this at an impressionable age, how is that going to affect their development and subject choices?

It gets more complex when you mix jellybabies with the gingerbread man.

I don't think the extremes will be that appealing to the majority of children / young people.

It was interesting that the adults in training were discussing where they thought each other should be on the spectrum so wouldn't children would do the same?

Wouldn't a previously happy and content child start asking themselves questions if their peers say 'no you shouldn't be up there near Barbi, you like football and trains, you should be over that side near GI Joe'

Thingybob · 20/12/2018 22:44

Meant to add that I've known this to happen to two different 12 year olds, from different schools, after a gender/sex education lesson.

They went home and declared themselves both bi-sexual and non-binary. Luckily both forgot about it a week later

traceyracer · 20/12/2018 22:53

mermaids must be getting a lot of support from TRAs

they have received £6,000 worth of donations over 3 days and one of their supporters are mocking us over it

R0wantrees · 20/12/2018 22:56

It demonstrates how much money this charity and other's advocating for trans rights have, both public and private.

R0wantrees · 20/12/2018 22:57

Its worth following the #IStandWithMermaids

Its worth following the #IStandWithMermaids

& recognising the obvious flaw in this

I initially read the title of this thread as someone recording mermaids having a fitness session. Press-ups perhaps, though no running. Aqua aerobics would make most sense.

Didn't we raise 40k or something for the adult human female metro advert? As I recall they were all jealous af, even though the advert didn't actually cost that much probably and we were all told how many dv shelters it would run, or summer.

Flooffloof · 21/12/2018 10:48

Summat ffs

In October 2017, the Mermaids CEO was invited to Buckingham Palace by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. Harry described Mermaid's work as 'amazing' and Green spoke to Pink News and Gaystar about her delight in being recognised by the Royal Family.

The Equality Minister, Penny Mordaunt and her civil servants have had more meetings with Mermaids than with women's groups. Mermaids is routinely consulted as an expert and of course the growth of the charity has its roots in lots of cash and trainign contracts from government - not the private sector.

I've just read the Parliamentary Enquiry on Kid's Company and the parallels are sickeningly too close for comfort - endorsements by royalty, close relationships with Whitehall, partners who are more interested in allying themselves with the Establishment than looking closely at what is going on.

I believe that another Kid's Company/Savile is coming to pass, but this time the Royals, Whitehall and government ministers can't say that they weren't told.

HandsOffMyRights · 21/12/2018 16:41

Aye, SG rewarded by HRH for her contribution to her outstanding work.

feministfairy · 21/12/2018 16:45

I recall that Jimmy Savile had Royal approval / involvement, politicians approval including the PM, his own group of police officers meeting him regularly for coffee. It seems they have learnt very little.

ChewyLouie · 21/12/2018 16:50

Expect we’ll hear the same old “lessons will be learnt” tripe in the coming decades. Same old shit.

starcrossedseahorse · 21/12/2018 16:51

Bloody sickening.

ChewyLouie · 21/12/2018 17:18

Just noticed, “ I stand with Mermaids” ??
I’d say Mermaids float gently and serenely rather than stand, which means the people who stand with them are Floaters.
