Apologies if this has already been posted. Did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Michael Conroy attended and recorded a mermaids training session. It's hair raising listening.

I believe that someone is working on transcribing this, which will hopefully make it easier to analyse. But wanted to post it to make sure it hadn't been missed.

Please can someone phone in? I can't at the moment but the debate is so skewed...

I have not followed closely myself what has gone on for a long while now. But I really don't understand something. So reading through the transcript it seems that prior gender and name etc should be under lock and key. So the person transitioning has nothing to do with their previous life and can just be who they are. That being the case, why are people calling for trans people to for example be the new bond. When I thought the whole purpose of transitioning means you identify as a new person and the previous gender/identity is basically dead. So how then can anybody specifically get a trans person to do whatever if no one is supposed to know they had a previous identity or gender? Doesn't that defeat the point of transitioning?

It does if you are one of the vanishingly rare transsexuals who just want to get on with their lives under the radar and without drama.

But not if you are part of the massively bigger cohort who want to dominate women, accrue as many victim points as possible, make a name for yourself as more of a woman than any woman, and be the first woman to 'do' stuff (break women's sporting records, fight on the front line, direct a trilogy, be woman of the year with a penis, etc).

Cake and eat it come to mind. Because it actually makes no logical sense whatsoever

It will be a tiny bit difficult to argue that the trainer really presented "gender as a social construct".

Where's the actual anti-bullying part?
Where is the information on how to make children understand what bullying is (i.e. not telling a child once that pink is for girls), how it makes other children feel, what to do if you see it, how to deal with it at school level, and how to tell children and parents that they should not DREAM of asking their GNC child to change in any way?

I have a comment on the clownfish analogy. It doesn’t work. We have people born without limbs, there are animals in the sea and on land that can regenerate parts of their body. That doesn’t mean amputees should be able to also grow their limbs back. Trans people have their body’s cut and shaped to resemble that of the opposite sex, we don’t say that is comparable to natural changing of sex in some animals, the same way we don’t compare a prosthetic limb to the same standard as a starfish that grows back a limb. It just doesn’t make sense.

Wizards? I remember reading somewhere that Harry Potter has a lot to answer for (all the young uns telly really really wanting to believe in magic and all that). They might be onto something.

It reminds me of the comedian who had a tour called something like ‘Jesus is magic’ which was her and her husbands end-all top trump answer when the kids asked hard questions.

I thought treating passing/non passing trans people differently was one of the big no-no’s for avoiding accusations of transphobia? Along with not having genital preferences.

I came across this tweet on toxic masculinity that had gone viral. Great, making a stand against gender conformity I thought. And then the tweeter said to donate to mermaids. I genuinely don't get how you can be against a man getting shamed for wanting a hot chocolate but supportive of a charity that says a boy playing with a doll is actually a girl.

We are part of an LGBT Plus consortium and this consortium works with the Department of Education and the Government’s Policy Office. So as well as bringing training into schools, we’re also developing the LGBT lesson plan to go into the national curriculum and that’s in accordance with the OFSTED framework that was updated in 2014 to include LGBT understanding throughout the schools in the UK.

Important info for anyone talking to their MP about RSE.

This baby hasn’t even taken its first breath. As my gran would say, it’s still cooking, and we put our binary mind-set that is our culture onto that child.
