Apologies if this has already been posted. Did a quick search and didn't find anything.

Michael Conroy attended and recorded a mermaids training session. It's hair raising listening.

I believe that someone is working on transcribing this, which will hopefully make it easier to analyse. But wanted to post it to make sure it hadn't been missed.

Some girls are accepted into male friendship groups - there have always been 'tomboys', and girls can be very open to a boy who wants to join their group. This is not the same as telling the boy that he is actually a girl.

Yes I know but I'll paraphrase the only sensible thing the Mermaids trainer said. Primary school teachers say it's all fine with children to mixing a forming friendship groups with members of the opposite sex but it all changes once they get to secondary school.

So if your 11 year old daughter had a male friend would he always be included when she socializes with friends. For example would he be invited to the sleep overs?

Pepvixen · 22/12/2018 10:38

GNC kids, nerdy kids, minority ethnic kids, disabled kids, musical kids - all sorts of people who often grow up to be the most interesting - sometimes struggle to fit into school friendship groups. Lots of those kids form friendships with people outside of school (eg through orchestra or church/temple/mosque). Agreed with something you said above about a group like mermaids for gnc kids minus the genderist ideology would be good. I don't think GNC kids are particularly unusual in struggling to fit in at school.

OldCrone · 22/12/2018 10:47

And the solution is definitely not to isolate them even more by having a special school for them.

Pepvixen · 22/12/2018 10:48

Definitely Old Crone - what a completely bizarre suggestion.

OldCrone · 22/12/2018 10:55

So would you stop your child from having a friend of the opposite sex because of this 'problem'?

Datun · 22/12/2018 11:02

Loads of kids don't fit in, simply loads. And many of the kids who appear to fit in, will tell anyone who listens that they don't fit in either.

Reducing gendered expectations will allow for a far greater flow between these rigid gender boxes.

Separating gender nonconformity from gender conformity will eliminate the flow.

You're still falling into the trap of thinking that most girls like girly stuff and most boys like boys' stuff.

Let's remove these labels and expectations, and then see quite how many children fall in the middle.

Mariotta · 22/12/2018 11:06

but it all changes once they get to secondary school

But it doesn't necessarily. My youngest (boy) has exactly the same core friendship group that he had when he was at primary school. And he's left uni now. It's mixed sex.

Oh good grief. It's perfectly fine for a group of girls to not invite their male friend to sleep over with them while they are all beginning puberty.

It's not bullying and it's certainly not a hate crime. The male child will have plenty of opportunities with the boys if they are a well rounded child who is not taught they are actually a girl when the world doesn't actually believe that.

Qcng · 22/12/2018 11:32

I'm actually shocked by the "poor effeminate boy doesn't get to sleep with girls" comment.

So tell the girls that their effeminate boy friend is actually a girl, gaslight them, confuse the fuck out of them instead.
Right.

OrchidInTheSun · 22/12/2018 12:01

The transcript is all done. Michael is just reviewing :)

"Humans have up to 42 chromosomes", though...

I shame nobody picked her up on that bit of GCSE biology there.

This is what happens when the original organic components of the Earth have been replaced by descendants of the B Ark.

Thanks to all who have contributed to revealing the actual content of training which is going into schools, NHS, Police etc.

It is really important that it is seen and evaluated dispassionately by those with professional expertise.

What we teach children is so very important.
No individual or organisation should be beyond scrutiny.
