Good news for people who don't believe gender non-conforming children should be told they're in the 'wrong' body, and may need a lifetime of drugs and/or surgery to 'fix' that.

Do you think Mumsnet have finished debating the deletion of Graham Linehans original thread yet?

I think their servers are melting under the traffic today. Page views must be through the roof - kerching!

HandsOffMyRights · 17/12/2018 16:01

I have a bone to pick with Glinner, who's popped back on to Twitter (albeit briefly) in light of this. Now do put on your coat dear or you won't feel the benefit.

Elsewhere, mens' demands activists are up in arms. Please add your views if you can. We cannot let Big Lottery give in to emotional abuse:

Quick derail, did you see the link on that page -

I did and was Shock - how did she escape the wrath of the TRAs?

megletthesecond · 17/12/2018 16:45

I've just been browsing the Mermaids site and came across a little paper animation with a baby being labelled with sexist claptrap toy images, the boy gets the car the girl gets the ballet. Baby gets angry because they don't want their "labels". Meglet gets too annoyed to watch any more of it 😫. Might venture back later.

fidgetspinner555 · 17/12/2018 16:49

We need to be careful though as although the review is good news, it might just be a facade of a review.

WeRiseUp · 17/12/2018 16:51

Well done everyone who wrote. I haven't yet. I wonder if it is still worth doing.

ScarletBegonias · 17/12/2018 16:53

I'm sure it's still worth writing. I sent an email this afternoon.

ShowOfHands · 17/12/2018 17:00

Which email did you use?

ScarletBegonias · 17/12/2018 17:02

I sent to the Chief Executive.

Mermaids statement:

Mermaids welcomes all levels of scrutiny into the charity and the services that we deliver to families and young people, and are determined to continue to support trans children to achieve a better future. We want to reassure all parents that access our support that we will continue to be there for you and your children.

We are very proud of the work that we do, and would like to thank our supporters, including our individual donors and funders who have made this enormously important work possible.

Whilst we are disappointed that this is necessary, Mermaids understands that the volume of correspondence, both positive and negative, received by Big Lottery has necessitated a review of the grant that we were notified of last week.

It is unfortunate that transgender children and young people continue to be a largely misunderstood population, and we understand that misinformation about the reality for trans kids is at the heart of this. Perhaps this review will reveal more about the very real challenges faced daily by families and young people, and help to foster understanding and acceptance.

We look forward to the outcome of this review and will work with Big Lottery to provide them with any additional information they require, as and when needed.

HandsOffMyRights · 17/12/2018 17:31

Do write in. I did it even after the Big Lottery Fund's statement. It's important we continue, as every TRA and their non binary dogs will be barking loudly. They are already wielding their usual mob handed tactics and calling those who oppose child abuse as a 'vocal minority'.

How many of these supporters have children I wonder?
How many are intact males who haven't a clue about what it is to protect one's children?
How many are adults who've simply glugged the Kool Aid themselves (Amanda Knox Jetty types) and are hypnotised and therefore hypnotising their kids?
How many have expertise, professional qualifications and training, in-depth knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, medicine, psychology, social work?

Susie has so many high profile contacts. She will already be working on this, out of public sight.

Mermaids welcomes all levels of scrutiny - No they don't. In his article on November 25, Andrew Gillian of the Times writes: 'Responding on Twitter to an NHS psychiatrist who accused her of "making stuff up" Green wrote: "You need to f* off, you know nothing."

(If most CEOs behaved like that they would be reprimanded). Does Helen Mimmymum still work for them? Her professional conduct leads a lot to be desired and needs to be questioned with this scrutiny. I'm sure we all have the necessary screen shots.

It is unfortunate that transgender children and young people continue to be a largely misunderstood population, and we understand that misinformation about the reality for trans kids is at the heart of this.

I look forward to seeing this one unpicked.
Also, if there is level of misunderstanding about children and young people, then even worse that they are being rushed through onto medical pathways forever,

Just stop transing kids. Stop dressing it all up and using emotional blackmail and threats - children deserve better than this. This is child abuse in plain sight and I welcome an investigation.

When my own son (aged 4) insisted on wearing Princess dresses not once did I hit speed-dial to a gender identity clinic. It would have been regressive and affirming a sexist stereotype to only assume he would like 'boys' things' otherwise he must be a girl. I don't want people blindly led by the mentality of people who think like that.

Sunlight is the greatest disinfectant of all.

Hulo · 17/12/2018 17:35

Yes, I think it's still worth writing to support the review, Twitter has gone crazy and the Big Lottery Fund will be suffering a torrent of abuse and misinformation from their decision

ShowOfHands · 17/12/2018 17:48

Did you contact the National Lottery or the Big Lottery grant bods? I have found many contact emails but dithering over the best one.

EverardDigby · 17/12/2018 17:50

Big Lottery makes the decision not the National Lottery.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 17/12/2018 17:51

Hurray for a review.

Yes, MN should definitely always be complicit in asking for facts to be checked on organisations circumventing rules and pathways put there for the protection of children.

Needmoresleep · 17/12/2018 17:51

Its the Big lottery. Chief exec is fine.

LangCleg · 17/12/2018 17:57

If you haven't written yet, it's important to stress all the issues with regard to safeguarding that apply across the board and not just to trans issues. Information sharing is an important one: almost every Serious Case Review highlights a failure of information sharing as an important contributing factor in a disastrous outcome. Any charity that encourages confidential disclosures and not informing parents, and discourages multi-agency involvement should be regarded with extreme caution.

Sexnotgender · 17/12/2018 18:00

I worry this is simply a PR box ticking exercise.

Procrastinator1 · 17/12/2018 18:02

I note the Leather Sellers CF are saying that they might increase their grant to Mermaids
twitter.com/LeatherCharity/status/1074711049545416705
E Lord is a freeman of this company. I wonder if Lord has any input into grant decisions.

WeRiseUp · 17/12/2018 18:04

Do you mea E Lord of gushing praise for PIE?

TimeLady · 17/12/2018 18:08

The GenderGP link to Helen Webberley's clinic is still on the Mermaids website under private support

Excellent news @Glinner. Now get off the internet and look after you and yours.

The rest of us MUST keep up the emailing and tweeting.

HashtagLurky · 17/12/2018 18:27

There's a massive pile-on and loads of emotive blackmail replies to the Lottery Fund. I doubt they'll last the night without caving, reversing and grovelling apologies all round. Obligatory slating MN and hostile language towards GC feminists included.

DandelionsAreNotLions · 17/12/2018 18:36

Yes must have been a very long "morning" chatting about that thread.

At least they can't put their heads in the sand now about how they have been targeted and controlled. Justine et al can absolutely be sure now what some people will do to silence women.
