Sally Hines is writing female out of feminism- I'm terrified

I've just seen this on twitter. 'Female' is only something anti trans people say and is not relevant to feminism. What if feminism becomes undermined too? Are they trying to take our only weapon and safe place? Why try to take away the biological needs of women rather than add those of trans women? How can this person think they are qualified and justified in re-defining feminism to exclude something fundamental to the majority of women?

My blood ran cold when I saw it because Sally Hines is an academic receiving a lot of funding to do this research.

Who died and left Hines the new Queen Of Feminism?

HorsewithnoPhD · 26/04/2019 07:57

..legal rape zone..

...is the right thing to call it in my opinion.

WelshMoth · 26/04/2019 09:44

Sally Hines - you are female. Whether you want to describe yourself as a woman or not is entirely up to you. I do wonder though, whether you see the endgame results of the ideology you peddle.

I think she's made herself its Court Jester.
In case anyone missed it before, I don't believe we need to take anything she says re 'female' remotely seriously

"whereas I cannot think of a single society that did not know that women got pregnant and gave birth. If you study anthropology every society in the world has or has had roles defined by sex."

It's probably in part because of birth control that we could have this kind of social confusion at all. It would be difficult for any traditional society to ignore the physical ramifications of sex. It's probably part of the reason that men were more often the ones able to exist as a third sex, and when women did, or otherwise acted in men's roles, they tended to be celibates.

Crazytoast have you seen Sally's twitter page from yesterday? Sally didn't put this up her self but retweeted someone who did.
@sally_hines
and
@karencuthbert
presenting findings from their project looking at gender diversity for young people #BSA2019

Seems like teenagers are fed up with all this and think there are more important things, like climate change.

They'd be right. (I can't be the only person rather delighted by Greta Thunberg, a 16 yo girl in pigtails.)

The thread those screen shots come from is really interesting:

twitter.com/SaeBeverley/status/1121396953194160128

By Hines' own data this isn't washing with young people. They're confused by it, overwhelmed by all the new choice and language, feel pressured to "perform" as if they understand it, and mostly abandon it once they leave school by the sounds of it. They think it's indulgent and privileged to be harping on about gender and pronouns when there are real problems in this world. But, what's also clear from that thread, is that this is about engineering a social trend, not responding to one that's arisen organically. This is the "queering the classroom" bit of the No Outsiders programme. It's not about supporting those who reject "the binary", it's about actively trying to break it as a concept for everyone. And they're specifically targeting young people because their "liberal individualism" (read: "special snowflake syndrome") makes them prime targets to lap it up. It's not just bandwagon jumping, its active social engineering. That's why they need "real" trans children to be a thing and won't countenance external factors like ASD and social contagion. Without teenagers willing to take medication and surgery, it's just frivolous nonsense from rich white kids with silly hair. This research isn't being gathered to understand the phenomenon, being gathered to refine the branding.

It's not just bandwagon jumping, its active social engineering yea I got that feeling too, like how do we move forward and change their minds? Very strange when the teenagers are expressing their views very honestly and you would think Sally heins and crew wouldn't want these results in the open but when you read the twitter feed of the person who tweeted the slides she is disagreeing and basically saying more work to be done.

Oncewasblueandyellow · 26/04/2019 21:34

What is the phrase they use... "Re-educate" .

ErrolTheDragon · 26/04/2019 21:57

she is disagreeing and basically saying more work to be done.

But why does she think this 'work' needs doing? Apart from justifying her job, what earthly purpose does it serve except to muck up kids?

Teach toleration and acceptance of genuine diversity, yes - but FFS let the poor kids alone.

BettyDuMonde · 26/04/2019 22:12

I like Salvador (16, London). I’d like to shake his hand/give him a high five/buy him a drink (in 2 years).

Can we send Sally Hines off to Evergreen College for a bit? I’d love to watch her board The Equity Canoe.

Michelleoftheresistance · 26/04/2019 22:15

Thank you for sharing that thread - how refreshing to see such clear eyed sense from those teenagers, that's the most hopeful thing I've seen in a while.

Oncewasblueandyellow · 26/04/2019 22:16

Errol
But why does she think this 'work' needs doing That's the magic question isn't it? Why, why is this happening at all?

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 26/04/2019 22:38

I would love the answer to that question. We have so many bits of the puzzle, but not that one.

2BthatUnnoticed · 26/04/2019 23:27

It’s happening because of people like Jennifer Pritzker and others - because rich, powerful people can make a lot of money from it. Those interests are funding the “re-education” if the masses.

AnyOldPrion · 27/04/2019 09:39

Thanks for the thread link above.

To briefly return to this:

”males who feel compelled to comply with feminine stereotypes’”

I’m fascinated by the process by which so many of us have arrived in a position where we avoid using the words that are demanded of us. Initially I insisted on omitting the space, but now I can’t generally bring myself even to use the space-free word. I either use “transitioner” with an initialled description of direction before it (also banned here, I believe) or more often: “men, however they identify”. It pleases me to lump these aggressive transitioners in with all men. Sick of being bullied.

LangCleg · 27/04/2019 11:48

Absolutely, 100%, this. Great post, m'dear.

Antibles · 27/04/2019 18:24

Why, why is this happening at all?

Is this what happens when a few billionaires want their new gender identities validating? And then another billionaire mistakenly agrees with the TWAW claim, thinking it's like the LGB rights issue and supports it too. And then the MRAs see how handy it could be, and all the other AGPs see the advantage of claiming womanhood. I struggle to believe it and then I think, actually maybe they are that powerful. Money talks. It is a bizarrely top-down movement.

BickerinBrattle · 27/04/2019 23:57

It’s also a movement that will break the largest legally protected class of employees and render that legal protection meaningless.

I’m sure corporate boards have realised.

Next up: trans-racial. For the same reason.
