Vice: how an online forum for moms became a toxic hotbed of transphobia

Thought people might be interested in this article. One thing that strikes me is the 'reducing women to their biology' argument. Don't transwomen 'know' they're not male because their body feels wrong? Then it is about biology isn't it? Otherwise why do they think they're female?

I think a memory foam topper will make the toxic hotbed too hot frankly

we might need one of those beds that splits in half. I'll take the firm side and you can be over on the weird overheating memory foam side LuggsaysNotaWomen

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 06/12/2018 22:19

Window - yes, good thinking.

Thing is some of us need support and a soft cushiony bit for our lumps, would a non-foam topper be a compromise?

Also, can we discuss sleeping positions. I would like to propose that those of us that are perimenopausal get first dibs on the outer edges. I don't want to piss you all off with my constant kicking off of the covers.

In all seriousness though, is this article aimed at N American cousins, who can shiver with horror at the plight of British infants. Nasty British internet mummies!

LangCleg · 06/12/2018 22:25

HQ have banned Weetabix?

I'll have a meltdown if they do.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 06/12/2018 22:27

I'm not peri yet so I don't mind going in the middle somewhere.

Melanippe · 06/12/2018 22:27

Someone should ban Weetabix, because it tastes like old wallpaper paste and if I am going to be forced to stay in a hot bed with a bloody memory foam mattress topper, I want something that tastes nice for brekkie. Such as bacon. Or square sausage.

2rebecca · 06/12/2018 22:31

Glad someone else isn't convinced by memory foam mattresses either.
Weetabix is tricky. Getting the right amount of milk is like correctly poaching an egg. That's 2 breakfast items though so will I get a warning?

2rebecca · 06/12/2018 22:33

Square sausage is an abomination

GirlDownUnder · 06/12/2018 22:36

I’m not a mom, or a mum. I’m not even in the UK Shock

Also it’s 34 degrees atm, so can we have aircon or at least a fan by the toxic hotbed. An open window would be a no-no. Please. Thanks.

Squall · 06/12/2018 22:37

How about square crumpets? Seriously, though, I shall sit (but hopefully not die) on my mountainous hill of momdom if I have to use someone else’s made up definition to describe myself.

tenbob · 06/12/2018 22:37

It's all a by 'women; know your place. You may talk about nappies but don't overstep your mark or we WILL write about you on our Murdoch-backed shitrag with no credibility and THEN YOU WILL BE SORRY' though, isn't it?

Queenofthedrivensnow · 06/12/2018 22:38

Monitors mumsnet???? What the actual fuck???

Shall we go and monitor something....whets that army forum called???

Anlaf · 06/12/2018 22:40

Does anyone actually like porridge? I'm Scottish and I think it is an abomination. Do people just pretend to like it? If you pretend to like it for long enough, do you learn to like it?

Square sausage is a strange southern affectation and not for my table, thankee.

lighthearted

LangCleg · 06/12/2018 22:42

I like porridge! But the consensus on here is that I'm not to be trusted on breakfast fare.

I don't mind hot or cold beds. I just want pillows that the husband hasn't bent in half to sleep on - WHY? WHY? - and ruined.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 06/12/2018 22:42

look, if you people are messing about with weetabox can I please have black pudding? with a poached egg. mmmm

hipsterfun · 06/12/2018 22:44

Does anyone actually like porridge?

Shock Yes!

And that Abney is a fucking amateur.

Melanippe · 06/12/2018 22:45

Black pudding is against the laws of God and man.

Is a Mumsnet monitor like a milk monitor or a lunch monitor?

littlbrowndog · 06/12/2018 22:45

Fried egg Bernard
Poached egg ffs

Needmoresleep · 06/12/2018 22:45

Is this hot bed a single sex space.....don’t want to share.

littlbrowndog · 06/12/2018 22:46

Square sausage on a roll with brown sauce

Porridge is lovely when I make it (against my family's more austere traditions). With milk - boiled till nearly bubbling out, quickly stirred to keep it light and fluffly, cinnamon and honey on top with a dash of cold milk.

Terfing · 06/12/2018 22:48

I feel bad for this woman. One day, when she's a frumpy mum, she will cringe when she thinks back to the pile of shite she published today.

She will want to say something, but then she will remember that women like her aren't supposed to have opinions on anything other than motherhood.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/12/2018 22:48

We bought brushed cotten bedding for Christmas

Its so warm!!! How have i spent all these years without it, why did nobody's tell me
