Vice: how an online forum for moms became a toxic hotbed of transphobia

Thought people might be interested in this article. One thing that strikes me is the 'reducing women to their biology' argument. Don't transwomen 'know' they're not male because their body feels wrong? Then it is about biology isn't it? Otherwise why do they think they're female?

The Patriarchy: women, especially mothers, are x, y and z

Women (especially mothers):

The Patriarchy: right you are all evil and/or mad

Come on Eve. This is not a new conversation we are having here. Why not try reading some Mary Wollenstonecraft or something?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 08/12/2018 09:48

*Wollstonecraft, some sort of weird autocorrect there

AngryAttackKittens · 08/12/2018 09:57

I could wear a pointy hat if it would make Eve feel better, and stick on some fake warts. Now, how to find a non-Disc equivalent of the Boffo store...

LangCleg · 08/12/2018 09:58

That they’re monitoring Mumsnet just shows how little self-awareness they all have.

Not a defining feature of the movement, is it?!

LangCleg · 08/12/2018 09:59

Can't help thinking of the production team Stock, Aitkin & Waterman.

I was thinking more Bucks Fizz.

GoldenWonderwall · 08/12/2018 10:11

‘Ze should be so potentially doing better than expected but not at the expense of any more marginalised or oppressed individuals, lucky, lucky, lucky’

LikeDust · 08/12/2018 10:14

Do you think the Monitors are jealous of Eve getting all the attention?

My feeling though, is that Stock Aitken & Waterman and Bucks Fizz are too upbeat and joyful.

I imagine Eve and the Monitors sing really crass 'socially conscious' lyrics - but could be a cynically produced emo band Stock Aitken & Waterman put together to try to keep their hand in changing times.

Imagine the ideas sessions. Grin

X post wonderwall exactly..

AngryAttackKittens · 08/12/2018 10:16

Onstage they look like an emo band, backstage they sit around singing jaunty Christmas carols even though it's July and watching ancient episodes of the Care Bears.

R0wantrees · 08/12/2018 10:17

Its all about control of the narrative.
Its all about control.

Too many marginalised people in the world
Too many trans folk take their own lives
Too many marginalised people in the world
And I won't give up the fight tonight

LangCleg · 08/12/2018 10:25

Will I get deleted if I mention episodes of My Little Pony?!

LangCleg · 08/12/2018 10:26

Sorry not sorry.

AngryAttackKittens · 08/12/2018 10:27

Maybe we could talk about how magical friendship is instead.

LikeDust · 08/12/2018 10:27

Oh I dare ya

LangCleg · 08/12/2018 10:28

Its all about control.

Poor Eve.

Confusion in her eyes that says it all.
She's lost control.
And she's clinging to the nearest passer by,
She's lost control.

ONLY JOKING!

AngryAttackKittens · 08/12/2018 10:30

Yeah, cognitive dissonance will do that to you.

LikeDust · 08/12/2018 10:34

Lang I like it but it's too good. You need to make it less of an imagine-able scenario and more of a dry lecture of abstract concepts, un-singable words peppered with trite clichés. Wink

LangCleg · 08/12/2018 10:36

I just plagiarised Ian Curtis. Not an original thought in my head, I'm afraid!

AngryAttackKittens · 08/12/2018 10:37

I wonder what they'd think Ian's gender identity was? Is "depressed" a gender?

LikeDust · 08/12/2018 10:39

Maybe some sha-la-las. .. bit of Motown throw back. ..

Maybe Rick Astley or Sonya would be better. Grin

I saw her at the candy store!

She had a pastel pink and blue painted baseball bat in her hand, and a shirt reading "KILL T@RFS" on, and a balaclava

And that's when I fell for, the Leader of the GenderPack!

LikeDust · 08/12/2018 10:43

Maybe there's a symbol for it.

I shall take that as an ear worm while grudgingly rousing the troops to try to make the house slightly less of a hovel!
