Criminal record, struck off, £12k fine, £2k fine for her company, £11.3k costs.

Not sure it will stop her criminal activity seems to be a relatively mild deterrent . Future convictions could hopefully lead to prison ?

Am I reading it wrong? I can’t see where it says she has been struck off?

Badgerthebodger · 03/12/2018 12:18

I’m glad she’s been struck off. I was starting to worry she wouldn’t be.

QuietContraryMary · 03/12/2018 12:18

The very first criminal conviction of its kind.
But as i understand it the Welsh medical structure, register etc. Is different from England and by re-domiciling in England she/her husband may be able to spend another couple of years icastrating children. And presumably the Welsh offence is a different section of the Act from the English so.future prosecutions won't even have that to go on.

What can be done about delusional criminals who are told and may believe they are actually some sort of freedom fighter/fairy godmother and intend to.just completely disregard the law because of emotive arguments about 'trans people will die if they can't get online castrations in minutes'?

Awful article from the BBC- full of biological inaccuracies

Also, 12k isn't enough for all the childhoods she has ruined.

QuietContraryMary · 03/12/2018 12:20

Sorry should clarify. Struck off NHS gp list but still GMC registered

OP posts:
LangCleg · 03/12/2018 12:21

Fitness to practice is separate and won't be until next year.

Terrible "further reading" links on that BBC article.

sackrifice · 03/12/2018 12:22

That's fine, GenderGP are still taking patients by twitter.

Who needs a medical authority anyway? AMIRITE?

Criminal gender GP Helen Webberley fined £12k
Badgerthebodger · 03/12/2018 12:23

Hmmm just read it properly and I don’t think she has been struck off. BBC as usual completely wrong on the facts:
“After she prescribed cross-gender hormones to a 12 year old child, meaning a child assigned female at birth was able to go through male puberty”

What. The. Actual. Fuck. Hmm

Webberley ought to be struck off, not able to move her practice to England and be fannying about over registration. It should not be legal to have an online clinic which prescribes hormones to young children. It’s a fucking outrage.

terfinginthevoid · 03/12/2018 12:52

Just checked her status on the GMC website - she is currently suspended, which means she is not permitted to practise as a doctor in the NHS or in private practice in the UK.
She was suspended on 26th November, I assume the GMC investigation is ongoing.

Grauniad · 03/12/2018 13:00

Whaaat?
A female child CAN'T 'go through male puberty'.

Iused2BanOptimist · 03/12/2018 13:02

I had thought they were moving some of their services to Spain. Or did I imagine that?

OlennasWimple · 03/12/2018 13:02

I thought she was in Spain, practicing there and doing internet consultations?

Also - the BBC are idiots

incallthebloodytime · 03/12/2018 13:04

I seem to remember that quite a few of Andrew Wakefield's patients also thought he was fabulous and were grateful

Still unethical though

Ereshkigal · 03/12/2018 13:08

She was suspended on 26th November, I assume the GMC investigation is ongoing.

It says in the article that they've been given another year to investigate her.

sackrifice · 03/12/2018 13:11

I thought she was in Spain, practicing there and doing internet consultations?

I believe that it would only be the website that would be hosted in Spain. As it would break the UK law...

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 03/12/2018 13:12

seem to remember that quite a few of Andrew Wakefield's patients also thought he was fabulous and were grateful

Still unethical though

And according to my grandma ...Harold Shipman had a 'lovely bedside manner'....

pitterpatterrain · 03/12/2018 13:15

Badger I’ve just put in a complaint re accuracy. It’s not suprising, as many articles that have anything close to science / medical topics are often very poorly reported yet today it has irked me more than normal that we pay the license fee for this

incallthebloodytime · 03/12/2018 13:20

I'm sure Harold Shipman did have a lovely bedside manner

In fact many groomers are really quite nice what with the gifts they give that nobody else will

Honestly these poor nice people who are medical "professionals" simply offering a service that nobody else is providing for these vulnerable people who want it and doing the right thing morally. It really is such a shame when it gets pointed out by others as being unethical. Where will the vulnerable oppressed turn now?

For the sake of clarity please read my post in your most sarcastic head voice

borntobequiet · 03/12/2018 13:20

Infuriated, so complained (again)

The article, on the conviction of Helen Webberley a "transgender GP", states:

"(A) complaint was made to the General Medical Council (GMC) after she prescribed cross-gender hormones to a 12-year-old child - meaning a child assigned female at birth was able to go through male puberty."

This is untrue and misleading. A natal female - who is observed to be female at birth, not assigned female - cannot, ever, go through "male puberty". It absolutely does not happen.

What happens, if puberty blockers and cross sex hormones are prescribed and surgery is undertaken, is that the female child is rendered sterile, has her breasts cut off and possibly has a non functioning prosthetic penis attached.

If at a later date she changes her mind (as many do), it is impossible to reverse the damage done.

Please stop misinforming the public when reporting instances of child abuse such as this.

littlbrowndog · 03/12/2018 13:29

Good luck with complaints
I complained anout bbc Scotland using the phrase “ assigned a sex at birth”
I said it wasn’t a guessing game and the correct term was observed at birth

In response to my complaint bbc said
We are satisfied that our wording was appropriate but have passed on your comments to REporting SCotland team

Gaslighting a nation with incorrect facts and not owning it Idiots bbc

OldCrone · 03/12/2018 13:31

The gender GP website now has Dr Mike Webberley as the transgender specialist. The GMC number on the site is 2620107 which is Michael Webberley's GMC number.

According to the GMC, Michael Webberley's specialism is gastro-enterology. He also has conditions attached to how he can practise:

4. He must not prescribe controlled hormone treatment to patients without a consultation in person and which includes an appropriate physical examination.

5.a. He must complete a log of all patients under his direct care and which documents how they are monitored, and the prescriptions they receive from him. b. He must give a copy of these logs to the interim orders tribunal at his next review hearing, and these should also be made available by him to the GMC on request.

OldCrone · 03/12/2018 13:33

And Michael Webberley is not on the GP register. So neither a 'gender GP' nor a transgender specialist.

OldCrone · 03/12/2018 13:38

GMC confirms that Helen Webberley has been suspended.

This person has been suspended from the Medical Register and may not practise as a doctor in the UK.

So I'm not sure how she thinks she's going to skip across the border into England and set up a new practice.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 03/12/2018 13:43

aaannnnd it's another complaint to the BBC from me

fucking anti science bullshit

and why are they glossing over the fact that a 12 year old child was sterilised?

Melamin · 03/12/2018 13:44

I'm sure Harold Shipman did have a lovely bedside manner

He absolutely did. They trusted him and he gave them time and compassion. That is why he was successful as a lone practitioner. And he only killed a few of his patients Smile
