The hypocrisy of Owen Jones & Co

Owen Jones has retweeted Shon Fae who was alarmed that the anti trans hate group (!) FPFW had talked about handing out leaflets to people in the street, including ‚gangs of lads‘.
Owen is anxious ‚where will this end?‘, apparently sharing Shon‘s assessment that this incites violence.

Which makes me wonder: do they actually think, male violence is a thing? If I were on Twitter, I‘d ask them, why they paint men as violent, just because some bad apples, NAMALT and all...
It is funny how they thought all was hunky dory when the (male) TRAs were only confronted with women to harass and beat up, but now that these hateful creatures involve males (also: did they think those blokes would not notice when their mum is in a ward together with a male or their girlfriend is upset about changing room issues? Should men have no say in the GRA consultation? This is all so silly...)

He's having a splendid tantrum isn't he?

TwistedStitch · 18/10/2018 15:00

Yep. The author of books about the demonisation of the working class is stating that merely the act of speaking to young men on Moss Side about a government consultation is inciting violence. Utter hypocrite.

IKeepFlouncing · 18/10/2018 15:01

I can’t be arsed to waste my time asking him, I just got few more people to complete GRA Consultation instead. I feel chuffed Grin

NowtSalamander · 18/10/2018 15:02

Can someone who’s on twitter tell me how lil OJ has been feeling today in general? I’ve been thinking about him, as the Guardian have suddenly decided that maybe there is another side to history...Smile

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/10/2018 15:03

Wow.
Shon's claim of 'incitement' seemed really classist to me: if leaflets are being handed out to blokes in a working class area it can't possibly be so that they can fill in the consultation or tell their women family and friends about it, it can only be so they will go and bash some trans people. I am sure he would have not said that if it had been in central Oxford.
But I thought Owen was meant to be alert to issues of working class demonisation, what with his having written a book about it.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/10/2018 15:03

x-post, Twisted. You put it better than me.

LangCleg · 18/10/2018 15:04

Well, Sanctimonious Morph does know everything there is to know about these dreggy, plebby chavs you know. He wrote a best-selling book all about it.

It reminds me of the Fabian history with eugenics. Bourgeois people discussing what should be done about the poor while simultaneously identifying as their representation.

I wish they'd just fuck off, frankly. For class reasons as much as anything to do with "gender".

Freespeecher · 18/10/2018 15:07

'Where will this end?' Some brass neck he's got there. He's been quite happy to incite from the sidelines in the past (without ever getting his own hands dirty).

ScarletBegonias · 18/10/2018 15:52

James Kirkup seems to have lost patience (if he ever had any) with little OJ over on Twitter an hour or so ago. Taking exception to what OJ had been saying re the Guardian piece about women's concerns needing to be heard, James remarked "There are words for men like you." then went on to call OJ a "pathetic coward".
OJ seems to have blocked James at that point Shock

BigotedWoman · 18/10/2018 15:55

James Kirkup gets better and better. Wine for him.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 18/10/2018 15:56

Fuck off, Owen. And you, too, Shon.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 18/10/2018 15:57

And hooray for James Kirkup, who Gets It.

LangCleg · 18/10/2018 16:00

Good for James!

Come on Owen - you know and we know that the time for your mea culpa is approaching. Gotta hang on to the lucrative comment gigs, after all. Have you drafted anything yet?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/10/2018 16:03

It's too late. Owen is on The Wrong Side Of History. Sad

LorettasBox · 18/10/2018 16:07

Oh Kirkup, that was truly epic. Jolly well done.

Rumbledore · 18/10/2018 16:07

Where's that ferret?

deepwatersolo · 18/10/2018 16:07

I don‘t think Owen will ever apologize LangCleg and won‘t have problems for it. He is not a woman, after all.
I was not aware he had written about the demonization of the working class before. This makes these tweets extra shitty.

His book Chavs is how he made his name!

LorettasBox · 18/10/2018 16:09

Is Owen being on the wrong side of history going to be like those mime artists stuck in a box? We're all going to plough on protecting women and girls, and he and Shon will be spanning out invisible walls with their hands.

breastfeedingclownfish · 18/10/2018 16:12

His other book is 'The Establishment. And How They Get Away With It'

Stonewall has been taking lessons
