The hypocrisy of Owen Jones & Co

Owen Jones has retweeted Shon Fae who was alarmed that the anti trans hate group (!) FPFW had talked about handing out leaflets to people in the street, including ‚gangs of lads‘.
Owen is anxious ‚where will this end?‘, apparently sharing Shon‘s assessment that this incites violence.

Which makes me wonder: do they actually think, male violence is a thing? If I were on Twitter, I‘d ask them, why they paint men as violent, just because some bad apples, NAMALT and all...
It is funny how they thought all was hunky dory when the (male) TRAs were only confronted with women to harass and beat up, but now that these hateful creatures involve males (also: did they think those blokes would not notice when their mum is in a ward together with a male or their girlfriend is upset about changing room issues? Should men have no say in the GRA consultation? This is all so silly...)

The hypocrisy of Owen Jones & Co

OunceOfFlounce I would never have believed he could get this so wrong!

He's always been wrong about a lot of things. His supposed defence of the working classes for example, he is actually incredibly patronising and deigns to speak for people who are perfectly capable of speaking for themselves. He takes their voice away from them and uses it to promote himself. The same as he is doing now with women and transsexuals.

LangCleg · 18/10/2018 19:03

Exactly this. He made his name identifying as other people's representation and he's always turned nasty when those he presumes to speak for dare to disagree with him.

He's a vile toad.

Floisme · 18/10/2018 19:07

Doesn't it occur to these lefty blokes that for a group of mainly leftwing feminists and trade unionists to be relying on a hard right tory might say something about how the left has utterly failed us?
Just this. I am beginning to despise the left.

Far be it from me to speculate but I wonder if OJ has a case of imposter syndrome. When I saw him giving it loads of attitude on the current affairs show circuit (off the back of Chavs I believe) he looked like someone who couldn't believe he'd been given that kind of platform and he started to believe he'd really earned it. He has since made a career out of putting himself front and centre of any poor huddled masses kind of issue. I wonder if he's cross because he wasn't recruited for this coveted position and had to make do with Trans Liberation Leader instead.

Poor Talcum X, he thinks he's Jesus Christ.

AngryAttackKittens · 18/10/2018 19:26

He's a cult leader confused as to why the cult he deserves has yet to materialize.

QuentinWinters · 18/10/2018 19:31

It's too late. Owen is on The Wrong Side Of History. Grin love this Grin

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 18/10/2018 19:34

Grin at Talcum X - I will think of that every time I see him now.

He's actually pretty typical of a certain type of middle class person you get in Sheffield. They live in affluent areas, their lives revolve around the universities, and the only working class people they know are their cleaners, but for some reason they insist on acting as though they are straight up working class Yorkshire folk. They will actually talk about going to certain pubs to 'slum it with the locals'. I am convinced they are who Jarvis Cocker had in mind when he wrote 'Common People'.

LangCleg · 18/10/2018 19:42

His entire life is a bloody povvo safari.

Honestly, I really wish he would just go away.

amandadecabernet · 18/10/2018 19:49

AngryAttackKittens I want to needlepoint that and frame it and send it to him for Christmas. :)

LizzieSiddal · 18/10/2018 19:54

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 18/10/2018 19:57

It must be bloody annoying when you base a whole career on speaking up for the marginalised and voiceless only for said voiceless to ask you to stfu because you're totally misrepresenting them. Poor lamb, I'm not surprised he's getting wound up.

RedToothBrush · 18/10/2018 20:21

Has he resigned from the Guardian??

Resigned eh?

Really?

  1. If Owen Jones had resigned on principle do you think he would
    a) shout loudly about it, and how principled he is and how awful the guardian is
    b) not say a peep on twitter about it.

  2. If Owen Jones has been let go quietly do you think he would
    a) scream about the injustice of it on twitter
    b) not admit it, as he'd have to explain why he had been let go, and he wanted to perserve his reputation and career
    c) get a load of rumours going about how he had resigned and start a conspiracy about it.
    d) agree that his continued presence at the Guardian was no longer in either party's interest and leave by mutual agreement, probably with a payout to keep his big fat trap shut publically.

  3. If Owen Jones still works at the Guardian do you think he would
    a) stir the shit at The Guardian because his ego thinks the Guardian needs him more than he needs them.
    b) tow the Guardian line and reign it in.
    c) double down and think that he can be even more controversial publically because his ego wont let him back down. (and risk the guardian telling him to fuck off).

What Would Owen Do Folks?

I said it earlier today: The Guardian's shift in editorial line, puts Owen's future at the Guardian in doubt. If they are looking to restore trust and reframe themselves in a certain way, can Owen Jones be part of that? Can Owen Jones remain part of their economic and cultural framework.

Owen knows this.

Its just a question of when and how in my opinion.

RedToothBrush · 18/10/2018 20:22

His entire life is a bloody povvo safari.

ROFLMAO!!!

amandadecabernet · 18/10/2018 20:28

LizzieSiddal I don't know who coined this clever moniker but I first saw it in one of Lucy Masoud's tweets.

ouda · 18/10/2018 20:29

Owen has always been on the wrong side of history.

Illuminating thread here about what Owen Jones - who claims to stand up against anti-Semitism whilst happily sharing a stage with vile anti-Semites like Ewa Jasiewicz - got up to at Oxford:

twitter.com/NudderingNudnik/status/987090024700182528

In some ways, the most revealing bit of this thread is not even Owen's early obsession with attacking Israel and Jews and bigging up Hamas and...er...Lenin, but the lovely bit of narcissism, by which he edited Wikipedia to make it clear that the great left-wing journalist Paul Foot was educated at Owen's own Oxford college (yes really. Vom).

SPOFS · 18/10/2018 20:42

I wonder if his mum will tell us all off for making fun of him, as she did Julie Bindel...

Pamspeople · 18/10/2018 20:54

I hope she helps him in to bed and reads him a soothing story instead, he's clearly overtired and needs to turn the computer off now, Owen.

RedToothBrush · 18/10/2018 21:15

At least its not his nanny I suppose.

RedToothBrush · 18/10/2018 21:16

He's keeping it real by getting mummy to tell off the nasty people instead
