Stephen Whittle influential TRA asserts 'We know we have Labour behind this one, so will simply do our best to get them elected' & Corbyn seems to confirm this at Pink News

Yesterday on a thread condemning Stephen Whittle's use of predicted suicide, he joined and commented confidently:

In the end we will pull ourselves together and continue the campaigning – as we have always done. We know we have Labour behind this one, so will simply do our best to get them elected. As I tell the community “we have always lost more battles than we have won, but we only ever need to win the big one”.

I hope that clarifies matters.

Last night at Pink News party, Jeremy Corbyn apparently confirmed Whittle's belief:
'PinkNews Awards 2018: Jeremy Corbyn vows support for transgender reforms'
by Nick Duffy
(extract)
"Speaking about transgender rights, he said: “We must speak up for the trans community, who today face shocking attacks in the media—just as lesbian and gay people did in the 1980s—as well as now online, which can be a wonderful place but also a horrendous place where attacks take place.

“Labour supports reform of the Gender Recognition Act and Equality Act to allow for self-declaration. The deadline for Government’s consultation is on Friday.

“Trans people must be able to live full, healthy, and happy lives—being the person they want to be. Labour will stand up for their right to do so.”

Yesterday too, the Labour Party promoted Stonewall's guidance for the GRA:

Corbyn - leading a party just for men. He's fucking welcome to it - I've been Labour all my life (and I'm 60), but they've lost me, possibly forever.

thatdamnwoman · 18/10/2018 10:37

Here's one Labour voter who won't be voting Labour again — and will do everything I can to persuade everyone I meet not to, either.

VickyEadie · 18/10/2018 10:41

thatdamnwoman

Me too - every person I can pin down.

LorettasBox · 18/10/2018 10:44

Wasn't Whittle also one of the liars who said the GRA was entirely different to the Equality Act and that would stay the same, so women's rights were safe? Well, Corbyn's words need to be brought up at every opportunity.

VickyEadie · 18/10/2018 10:46

All these men who hate all women and especially the women in their own families - because they're blithely removing those women's rights to privacy and safety and they don't give a fuck.

fleuriepeninsula · 18/10/2018 11:06

Ah Jeremy Corbyn, he who remains resolutely silent and will not comment on the widespread historical sexual abuse of children in Islington’s care homes during his time as MP.

Good to know he cares about the lives of grown men though.

Another woman who will never vote labour again, and I'm a working class northener. It would have unthinkable for me to ever consider voting Tory, but thats what I'm thinking of doing now.

VickyEadie · 18/10/2018 11:10

Gawd, as my brother has said recently "They'd have to put a gun to my head to get me to vote Tory"!

I'm spoiling my paper and writing exactly why on it. They're ALL pro this at the moment - don't forget that. The Tories have Penny 'TWAW' Mordaunt in charge of it.

gendercritter · 18/10/2018 11:23

What an absolute dunce Corbyn is. I was a Labour supporter. I naively thought Corbyn was good news.

Nope. Labour and pomo seem like very happy bedfellows and I'm going to take my vote and run in the opposite direction

Popchyk · 18/10/2018 11:30

Corbyn's speech seems at odds with John McDonnell's reassurances on his Mumsnet webchat that he will meet with women to discuss concerns.

What is the point of a discussion if it is a done deal?

Needmoresleep · 18/10/2018 11:32

I think the Tories are keeping quiet until Brexit is resolved as they are going to need help from some woke Labour bros on Brexit.

I think David Davies, alone, has been allowed the freedom to speak out to provide an alternative voice. He is sufficiently obscure, sincere (on this issue at least) and independently minded.

May is probably quite cross with Miller and Mordaunt but has other things on her plate.

If/when Brexit is sorted, the TRAs etc will put pressure on Labour to make it an election issue, and the Tories will breathe a sign of relief and allow free rein to their GC backbenchers. Tories the sensible. responsible party, Labour the party pulled every which way by nutters and entryists. Voters can then choose.

hackmum · 18/10/2018 11:33

There is no one I now want to vote for. No one. Labour, the Tories, the Lib Dems, the Greens are all backing self-ID. Even bloody Plaid Cymru and the SNP back self-ID. The suffragettes made all those sacrifices to win women the vote and all that's happened is we have a choice between six different parties who hate women.

Needmoresleep · 18/10/2018 11:34

The evidence suggests that John McDonnell's promises were just empty words. Some sort of meaningless pat on the head.

concretesieve · 18/10/2018 11:38

Completely agree that it's a huge u-turn on the 'this won't affect the EA' message - which I also agree was nonsense in the first place.

R0wantrees · 18/10/2018 11:54

Corbyn did the same earlier in the year.
I think on Peston?

Labour Party and others need to be getting on top of this urgently.

The issue of Andrew Lansley and subsequent Conservative Ministers of Health who have deliberately lied to the public about the NHS single sex policy is huge:

What happened to labour? They need to change their name - is ‘monster raving looney party’ still taken?

The TRA conference in October organised by Jane Fae 'We're Still Here' had Dawn Butler MP as the keynote speaker.

Dawn Butler is shadow minister for Women & Equalities & seems thoroughly lobbied.

OP TheHarpySings who described attending wrote:
(extract)
3) Keynote Speech: Dawn Butler MP: Shadow Women & Equalities

This speech was fucking cringe. She said she was an ally of LGBT but had got a lot of messages moaning at her for “betraying women”. “Despite the fact I AM a woman.”

She mentioned all the countries that have self ID (RoI, Argentina, Malta, Norway). Apparently she’d been to Malta recently and it was “really chill.”

She blames the Tories for allowing this debate to drag on. “It is cruel.”

The impact of self ID are “non existent”. She said if this had been done swiftly there would be none of the current fuss or transphobia.

She said

  1. the LGBT community needs to mobilise
  2. They need to contribute to the consultation
  3. They need to change the tone of the debate (lolercaust)

She also went on to say that a “phobia” is an irrational fear and there are three treatments:

  1. Hypnosis
  2. Talking therapy
  3. Immersion therapy

Apparently the only way forward to deal with transphobia is talking therapy. DB said that the conservation needs to be around counties that already have self ID and it’s “fine”

Hilariously, given that the audience contained fucking Dr Harrop, she said something like “keyboard warriors don’t know the consequences of their actions.”

DB: “Labour will champion the unheard.”

She said that this was another form of Section 28 on the trans community.

She then quoted at length from a song from “The Greatest Showman”. I wish I was making that up.

Also, she got cornered by Mermaids reps on the way out and is meeting with them and their kids soon."

Feh. She will change her tune when her mum/auntie/granny/friend/daughter calls her up crying because she’s been given an intimate examination, or thrown out of the doctors for refusing an intimate examination by Bernard Blessed in a female nurses uniform calling h’self ‘Delores’.

Are you sure the pressure isn't coming from the top of the Labour party?

PleasingFungusBeetle · 18/01/2019 19:25

I just want to remind you that John McDonnell met with Women's Place UK.

It is bloody obvious from what he has said that McDonnell is not on board with the extreme trans demands.
