Internet Crimes Unit Arrests Suspect for Encouraging Child Sex Abuse^

After a month-long investigation led by Portland Police Bureau’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, a suspect has been arrested and charged with 12 felony crimes related to child pornography and luring a minor.

In March of 2022, the Portland Police Bureau became aware of a suspect who may be in possession of child sex abuse imagery. After an investigation, they determined that Kellen D. Nicholson, 18, of Portland, possessed and duplicated child pornography, and then connected online to a 13-year-old victim and engaged in illegal conduct. Nicholson was grooming the victim using online chat rooms and appears to have purposely targeted the victim based on many factors including their LGBTQ2S+ identity. The family of the minor victim was not aware of this online behavior and was grateful for PPB's intervention.

On April 29, 2022, Nicholson was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges including:

-Five counts of Encouraging Sex Abuse in the First Degree (duplication of child sex abuse imagery)
-Five counts of Encouraging Sex Abuse in the Second Degree (possession with intent to view)
-Luring a minor (inducing the minor or purported minor to engage in sexual conduct)
-Online Sexual Corruption of a Child In the Second Degree (knowingly uses an online communication to solicit a child to engage in sexual contact or sexually explicit conduct)

SALT LAKE CITY — A transgender woman, who police say posed as a girl on social media, is facing 16 felony crimes as part of a sextortion investigation involving a teenage victim.

Carlos Arturo Aparicio Hernandez, 36, of Taylorsville, who identifies as a woman, according to charging documents, was charged Thursday in 3rd District Court with aggravated sexual extortion and six counts of forcible sodomy, both first-degree felonies; three counts of forcible sexual abuse, enticing a minor, and five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, all second-degree felonies.

In January of 2021, a 15-year-old boy accepted a friend request on Facebook from someone he thought was a teenage girl, according to charging documents. After several months of communicating, Hernandez requested nude pictures from the boy, and after that, requested to meet the boy, the charges state.

The boy invited Hernandez to his home.

"It was only when Aparicio Hernandez arrived that (the boy) learned her identity," according to the charges.

At that point, Hernandez "forced him to do sexual acts" and threatened to release the photos of the boy if he didn't, the charges state. She recorded the sex acts on a phone and saved the videos, according to the charges.

From that point, Hernandez "continued to threaten" the boy if he did not comply with demands for additional sexual encounters. The two met up on three occasions, according to the charges.

Once West Valley police became involved, detectives served a search warrant on the boy and Hernandez's social media accounts. Police then used the boy's Facebook account to arrange another meeting with Hernandez. When she showed up to the meeting location, she was arrested.

Prosecutors have requested that Hernandez be held in the Salt Lake County Jail, pending trial, noting that she "took advantage of the victim and extorted the victim for her own sexual gain," the charges state.

A paedophile has been jailed for 10 years after using social media to groom children.

Rachel Fenton, who police said was known as Richard Fenton when arrested and charged, pleaded guilty to 21 child sexual abuse offences and a drug offence and was sent to a male prison.

The Guardian understands Fenton was living as a man when arrested in November 2020 and was later charged under that name.

But during the sentencing hearing on Monday, Manchester Minshull Street crown court heard Fenton had changed their name and was in the process of transitioning to become a woman.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester police (GMP) said the force first heard about Fenton’s transition in a pre-sentence report in April.

Fenton, from Wythenshawe, was first arrested in November 2020 after an online vigilante group contacted police. They said they had been communicating with Fenton by posing as a 12-year-old girl.

Fenton tried to incite the girl to engage in sexual activity and send videos, not knowing it was a fake profile. Fenton sent indecent images to the profile and tried to encourage the “child” to engage in sexual activity with an even younger child, aged six.

Police arrested Fenton in November 2020 on suspicion of arranging a child sexual offence and on suspicion of possession of a class A controlled drug and possession of cannabis.

Around the same time, Fenton had also been in contact with the profile of another 12-year-old girl that was controlled by law enforcement. Fenton had contacted the undercover officer and carried on conversation of a sexual nature even after the believed victim revealed her young age.

Fenton sent indecent images to the operative and tried to incite the believed child to meet to engage in sexual activity and to send indecent images of herself.

After arrest, Fenton breached bail by inappropriately contacting a third “child”, who was in fact another undercover operative using a fake profile of a 13-year-old girl.

Fenton requested inappropriate images of the girl and again tried to incite the child to meet to engage in sexual activity.

Police arrested Fenton in January 2021 on suspicion of a number of child sexual abuse offences.

Fenton’s devices were seized and forensic examination found multiple indecent images of children, including a large number of child sexual abuse images and images of young children.

DC Ceri Martin from GMP’s sexual crime unit said: “Fenton is a paedophile who knowingly attempted to exploit children for his own sexual gratification. This behaviour is deplorable and completely unacceptable. The safety of our children is a top priority in Greater Manchester and I hope today’s sentencing spreads the message to anyone thinking of engaging in this type of behaviour that it will not be tolerated.

“GMP will do their absolute utmost to thoroughly investigate all reports of this type of crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Fenton has been in a male prison on remand since January 2021.

A transgender woman who bragged about her light sentence on a kiddie-molestation rap has now been charged with murder in connection with a 2019 robbery, authorities said Tuesday.

Hannah Tubbs, 26, hit the headlines in January when she pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in the bathroom of a Palmdale, Calif., Denny’s in 2014 when she was 17.

A judge in the case said he was compelled to sentence Tubbs to two years at a youth treatment facility because Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón declined to move the case out of the juvenile court where it originated.

Now Tubbs has been hit with murder and robbery raps for another crime in Kern County, Calif.

According to the criminal complaint obtained by The Post, Tubbs allegedly murdered Michael Clark on April 21, 2019.

Tubbs appeared before Kern County Superior Court Judge David Zulfa on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder and robbery charges.

During Tuesday’s arraignment, Zulfa referred to Tubbs by her birth name, James. She was charged last week and is being held on $1 million bail.

In Tubbs’ child molestation case, Gascón was forced to admit that her sentence was too lenient after she reportedly boasted about getting off easy and made ugly comments involving the underage victim while in custody. Critics also noted that Tubbs had a long rap sheet that should have triggered a stiffer sentence.

Tubbs added to her father in a recorded call that she wouldn’t have to register as a sex offender because her case was staying in juvenile court.

“Don’t worry about it,” Tubbs said “It’s a strike, but they’re gonna plead, I’m going to plead out to them and plead guilty.”

Facing mounting criticism, Gascón, who is facing a recall vote, said he was troubled by Tubbs’ flippant attitude toward the case.

“While for most people several years of jail time is adequate, it may not be for Ms. Tubbs,” he said. “If we knew about her disregard for the harm she caused, we would have handled this case differently.”
