Apparently Aimee's resigned. Unfortunately the link isn't working so I can't post it here, but I have it on good authority that it's genuine.

Let's hope so.

I generally feel we should use the terms the individual wishes out of pure courtesy. If for no other reason that the irony in me using the terms they wish, even when the evidence is so much to the contrary as in this case, whilst Aimee would no doubt insist I am cis amuses me.

NorthernLurker · 26/08/2018 23:14

But you’re spot re the misogyny

littlbrowndog · 26/08/2018 23:15

Ffs that tweet

bitheby · 26/08/2018 23:15

Survivors could be read to mean other members of the family affected.

I said on another thread but I was coached in gymnastics by someone later convicted of sexual offences against young girls. It wasn't obvious that that was what he was capable of/ probably grooming some of us for so proximity does not mean that you are aware.

UrsulaPandress · 26/08/2018 23:20

I can't possibly comment for risk of being banned.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 26/08/2018 23:23

Ah Aimee hates SWERFS too. Colour me surprised.

Ereshkigal · 26/08/2018 23:23

And the absence of this story in many major news organisations is quite suggestive.

As is the pulling of comments on the Times article.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 26/08/2018 23:25

There seem to have been a lot of injunctions about the place don't there

KnotsInMay · 26/08/2018 23:30

FucksGiven Aimee had her father as Agent AFTER knowing the allegations. And presumably being aware of the previous convictions. And returned home to live with father and complicit (or at least aware) mother after allegations were made.

And the Green Party allowed it all to happen. No due diligence at all.

KnotsInMay · 26/08/2018 23:31

What is a ‘SWERF’ please?

littlbrowndog · 26/08/2018 23:31

From daily mail below quoting
Aimee Challenor, 20, named her father, David, as her agent when she ran for Parliament in last year’s General Election and in council elections in May.

By then she knew the 50-year-old had been charged with abusing a ten-year-old girl held captive and forced to perform sex acts in the attic of the family home he shared with the aspiring politician.

TriptychTwins · 26/08/2018 23:32

I know that it says that Aimee's just 'stepping away' but I really don't think there's any coming back from this.

I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm the same with the female pronouns. It's messing with my head when faced with someone who looks like a bloke, talks like a bloke, behaves like a bloke but says they're a woman and you have to call them by a female name and use a female pronoun or else you're discriminating against them.

It's cognitive dissonance at its finest.

calpop · 26/08/2018 23:50

How can someone with such a deeply troubled background have been allowed to run for deputy leader of a major political party, at 20? It astounds me. The court proceedings from the social services involvement, which are in the public domain and there for anyone to read, never mind the GP, make it clear that AC was fostered and adopted as a child due to parental neglect and that both parents were accused of Muchaushens Syndrome by proxy and made up medical issues for all the children, taking them to multiple unecessary medical appointments. The court questioned whether this would have an effect on the mental health of the children, including AC, and suggested they may suffer from PTSD as a result.

A few short years later AC is "a woman trapped in a man's body" whose father has been jailed for extreme abuse and paedophilia. None of this is AC's fault of course but, christ, I'd expect a 20y old who'd been through all that to be having some serious counseling, not running for leadership of a political party and being allowed to influence policy on what is nornal and acceptable around sexual identity. Astounding.

Uncreative · 26/08/2018 23:56

What does SWERF even mean?

Thanks for explaining the acronym but I still don’t get it. In what way are sex workers excluded?

BettyFloop · 26/08/2018 23:56

It's cognitive dissonance at its finest.

Isn't it though? And we even have to comply with it here otherwise.... banhammer !!
None of it makes any proper sense to a rational human being...

BettyFloop · 27/08/2018 00:11

RF's see women in the "sex industry" as mostly victims of male dominance and control. Absolutely no RF's blame women for being in that position but, in an attempt to paint us as "exclusionary", the "sex pozzies" have attempted to paint us as such - hence SWERF. Yet another slur against us in our fight for the liberation of all women.

Truth is, no sex workers are excluded.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 27/08/2018 00:11

SWERF is a derogatory term used by proponents of the rape trade (predominantly people who either use or profit from it) to discredit women who support the Nordic model or who think that prostituted women and girls should be offered support to exit the trade.

It's misogynist propaganda often used by the same people who call women TERFs

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 27/08/2018 00:14

Will be interesting to see their take on all this.

Uncreative · 27/08/2018 00:35

Thank you. I have never seen that term before. Possibly because the ‘rationale’ behind it is really stretching credulity? There are more fuckwits out there than I thought.

My position on feminism is fast evolving. I’ve always believed in equality, like many people wasn’t crazy about the baggage that went with the word feminism, but now I fit the definition of a radical feminist.

It is Radical when my beliefs are really quite basic and ordinary - now heading into Orwell territory!

Ereshkigal · 27/08/2018 02:47

I know! The Overton window is badly skewed.

KataraJean · 27/08/2018 07:12

calpop this story is many layers of troubling, and life-changingly horrendous for the victim. But even without the crimes of her father, there was surely already enough for the GP to steer Aimee towards pastoral care. If she is 20 now, how old was Aimee when she started advising Stonewall?

It is not comparable with Mhairi Black who was studying a Politics degree and already very active in the party she stood for (and I don’t know much about her, but she seems capable for the job even at a young age).
