Apparently Aimee's resigned. Unfortunately the link isn't working so I can't post it here, but I have it on good authority that it's genuine.

Let's hope so.

Has 'Aimee' transitioned?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 28/08/2018 06:11

Good question.
Does Aimed have a GRC?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 28/08/2018 06:12

Aimee

KataraJean · 28/08/2018 08:40

12thGuelph that is an interesting question. My understanding is that access to HRT is already reduced for menopausal women due to the increased risks of strokes and cardiovascular disease. Hormonal contraceptives are also not without risk, hence lowering doses and changing the way they are made over time (if you compare what was on offer in the 1970s with now). The general trend in women’s medicine has been to reduce the use and dose of hormones, not increase it.

That is the position I support, I don’t think it is good for women to be prescribed hormonal preparations as a first or routine resort to the biological issues which come with being female. That does not mean there is no role for them. Hence, I would question the routine prescription of hormones to people who have gender identity issues.

Ekphrasis · 28/08/2018 08:48

Ben Goldacre may just be liking the sentiment rather than knowing all the ins and outs of all this.

It's rather like an iceberg; some people see the visible tip, every one here sees what's going on beneath. And all the spiky peaks.

Ekphrasis · 28/08/2018 08:49

refuses to believe Ben in anyway agrees with any of this

Floisme · 28/08/2018 09:01

I very much doubt that Goldacre has abandoned science. I read that ‘like’ as one human being sympathising with another.

I know this thread is about Aimee’s statement but I would much rather focus on David Challenor and The Green Party. David is the child rapist and torturer and I would like to know how much influence and reach he has had within the Green Party. Their statement that he was not a paid employee or elected is disingenuous in the extreme. I also simply cannot believe that no-one at grassroots level knew about this case. So who decided to keep quiet and why?

Catupatree · 28/08/2018 09:48

A guided rotor compressor? Oh. You mean the gender.....etc....

R0wantrees · 28/08/2018 09:57

"How can someone with such a deeply troubled background have been allowed to run for deputy leader of a major political party, at 20"

It is worth considering the influence and possible power that Aimee Challoner has through their position with Stonewall and within media circuits in particular BBC and The Independant.

Charliethefeminist · 28/08/2018 09:59

Isn't BA rather dismissive of women generally

ChattyLion · 28/08/2018 12:16

Aside from this really disturbing situation- It does look like the Green Party are going as the main priority for their candidates to have potential for public impact - people who already have public influence and connections. Other aspects or qualifications fall by the wayside it would seem.

What does a 20 year old have to bring to a deputy political party leadership?! Aside from their own necessarily very limited life experience?
What does a party gain from a completely inexperienced deputy leader?
Do we think that say, a 20 year old girl would have the same opportunity to apply for this post?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 28/08/2018 12:18

I don't think we can ignore Aimee. Aimee has the USP. Aimee gets puff pieces in the mainstream media and the ear of government.

Charliethefeminist · 28/08/2018 12:24

Sympathy puff piece coming to a dumbsss media outlet near you soon.

theOtherPamAyres · 28/08/2018 15:18

I thought that this from Sandy Draws Badly on Twitter summed it all up

Aimee Challenor's resignation
LadybirdsAreBirds · 28/08/2018 16:30

I hope Thingybob doesn't mind me posting this on here (it's on the Safeguarding thread as well). Youth group Aimee Challoner is associated with:

"Apologies if this has been posted before but I couldn't find anything on here about this group.

www.prismlgbtq.org/
aimeechallenor.uk/mywork.html
icov.co.uk/inside-prism-coventrys-only-lgbtq-youth-group/

Lots of things don't sit well with me; a club that caters for very vulnerable YP from 13 years old, secret meeting places, no mention of police checks, no mention of the fitness of those doing one to one mentoring, a club that 'welcomes parents', activity days, overnight trips"

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2018 16:35

That youth group looks very dodgy - mixing vulnerable 13years olds with 21 years olds is just asking for issues. And who are the mentors?

theOtherPamAyres · 28/08/2018 17:15

Aimee hasn't resigned. She has "stepped back" from the Deputy Leadership race.

She is still on the Green Party Executive and she is coordinating the Green Party's response to the Gender Recognition Act from her computer at home.

There's another topic on the Green Party's GRA arrangments, but in summary - AC has already filled in the answers so you, Young Green party member and Green LBGTQQWERTY, don't have to. Put your name to it (or give AC your name and remain anonymous) and she'll do the rest. Not at all suspect and sinister. No, no, no.

Stepping back from an election - but still in a position to steer the Green party towards a rock. Wake up, Green party, and hear the klaxons going off around you.

Bestseller · 28/08/2018 17:40

Aimee must surely be a victim too? Cynically used by the Greens for the publicity value, why else would they have allowed the campaign to continue once the father was accused/charged?

Imnobody4 · 28/08/2018 17:51

And AC is back on twitter. Apparently they have GP's full support and are helping them with investigating what went wrong so same errors aren't made again. What a total farce.

Recent thread
OP I wrote:
Jessica Eaton's comment:

'every week social workers approach me about traumatised kids after abuse and trauma suddenly identifying as trans and SW being told to just affirm it rather than working through the trauma'

Jessica's comments referenced by ThatDoctorEM along with her own work on thread:

I have started a new thread in order to specifically focus on the possible serious consequences for vulnerable looked after children & statuatory corporate parenting responsibilities

See resources including video and leaflet for young people in care and toolkit 'Trans Youth in Care - a Toolkit for Caring Professionals'
www.lgbtyouthincare.com/trans-youth-in-care-resources/

These resources seem to have mostly been generated in Manchester supported by Tara Hewitt (TELI UCSM), Three cIrcles Fostering (Wilmslow), The Proud Trust (patrons incl prominant TRAs Stephen Whittle & Christine Burns)
www.theproudtrust.org/about-us/our-patrons/

With additional acknowledged support from Mermaids & GIRES.

The Toolkit (publ 2017) seems heavily based on Allsorts Toolkit but has additional content due to the focus being children in care.
aspects of Allsorts Toolkit have been questioned and there are then I believe additional questions to ask of some of the content of this publication

Chronology (from resource)
"In 2014 Jacob Sibley (director, Three Circles Fostering) and Andrew (the LGBT foundation) completed a consultation on the experiences of LGBT people in care. Their findings helped produce a resource
entitled 'Supporting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans Young People - Information for Foster Carers’. During May 2016 Three Circles Fostering met with some individuals who highlighted the need for more training and awareness specifically for care professionals in how to support and care for trans young people in care.
From this, Charlotte Andrew (NT&AS), Sage Aalto (Three Circles Fostering), Tara Hewitt (NHS Equalities lead) and Jacob Sibley
(Three Circles Fostering) completed a consultation with The Proud Trust Afternoon Tea group in September 2016 and with care leavers and individuals at the Sparkle event in Manchester July 2016.
A resource titled ‘trans youth in Foster Care- know your rights’ was produced which is hoped to be shared with all young people in care nationwide, this can be viewed at www.lgbtyouthincare.com.
F i n a l l y, a t o o l k i t t o i n f o r m c a r e professionals working with Trans young people, to ensure positive outcomes has been produced."

Aimee Challenor's resignation
OhHolyJesus · 28/08/2018 19:54

Just seen her 'slowly return to twitter' tweet...err how long was she gone? Bet her fingers were itching.

I wish she would just resign, felt hopeful reading this thread but the 'sons of the father' tweets of support show how many think she is blameless. As a PP said on this thread or a related thread she is incompetent at best. She really has no place being where she is and GP should drop her like a hot potato

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/08/2018 19:59

Is that a new header Aimee how on her account? "Stop Violence against Women in Politics"? Excellent trolling if so.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 28/08/2018 20:14

Why are they asking people to produce resources for foster carers whose only qualification is being trans? They should be using psychotherapists/the Tavistock etc. It's absolutely shocking. Those are some of the most vulnerable people in our society

R0wantrees · 28/08/2018 20:35

This is really important point.

R0wantrees · 28/08/2018 20:39

Recent case where a 17 year old has been convicted of sexual assault of two young girls in women's toilets. Some suggestion that the perpetrator though male may not identify as a man. Article describes how they have been in social care from early age and had been accompanied to supermarket by a carer:
