First thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3331514-anti-trans-vandals-are-plastering-vile-women-don-t-have-penises-stickers-around-london

I'm optimistic this will spill over to most of the MSM soon, and keep on being a snowball, gathering momentum and mass, as it rolls down the snowy mountain of bullshit forced upon us all.

So here is thread 2, ready & waiting for the speed to pick up.

Just checked #stickerwoman on the Blue Bird Fight Cage.

See attached screenshot.

How many women that day decided to make their world a bit smaller and exercise in front of the DVD player at home instead. That's one to get swished around in front of the fence sitters whose idea of transgender is still based on what they heard about it in the 80s.

'Genuine question: would the people who have been offended by the #StickerWoman campaign be offended if the stickers stated: 'women don't have a y chromosome'?

I would guess the answer would be "Some women have Y chromosomes" - just as some women have penises.

Looking at the Twitter thread that the OP linked to, pleased to see that a) Graham Linehan is on it (you go, Graham!) and b) there's a tweeter called Edna Welthorpe, which is the pseudonym Joe Orton used when writing mock-outraged letters to the papers.

Howyoualldoworkme · 21/08/2018 11:01

Um, CesiraAndEnrico, how do the Italian police feel about stickers?
(Asking for a friend Wink)

R0wantrees · 21/08/2018 11:02

I don't know the answer to that though my guess would be TRAs would cite rare intersex conditions like CAIS.

see twitter.com/mrkhtake2 on twitter & her thread (links in document at end)

"We need to talk about what’s happening to the intersex community. I mean, seriously. I know I talk about it all the time but it’s critical, so here’s a quick thread with a potted background and a few articles raising intersex voices.
Currently there’s a lot of talk about intersex conditions, “sex spectrums”, women without wombs, etc. I see John Money being extolled as an expert (Google him if you don’t know – it’s grim). A lot of this talk unfortunately ends up getting regurgitated in the mainstream media too
The problem in the UK is that Trans Media Watch have been allowed to become voice of the intersex community, for example, in this report to the hate crimes committee which was submitted by them..
[link in doc]

The document says intersex all over it but represents very little from intersex community. In fact, if this is supposed to be looking at accurate reporting and media representation in order to fight prejudice, why didn’t they pick up on this?

@ NUJofficial why does your LGBT+ advice say that intersex people are transgender and reduce complex medical conditions to one wildly inaccurate statement? This is ignorant and offensive, and explains why our representation is so poor in the media. Can you please fix this?

Quick note: The head of NUJ ethics council has said they will review this at their next meeting since being made aware

Gender radical trans organisations can’t represent intersex people as their beliefs are interphobic. I witness this all the time. The gender radical view that chromosomes have nothing to do with sex and my inability to conform means I am called a man a lot by trans activists.
In other words, I must be “fixed” or comply. If you want to begin to understand the damage that does, this article contains the perspective of women with MRKH and the experts that work with them.

Here’s a perspective from another organisation that supports women with AIS [see link in doc]

My friend with CAIS has had very similar to me from trans activists and I know how upsetting that has been for her too.
Not only does gender radical thinking take from us the language we need to understand our bodies the whole approach to intersex flies in the face of what the community explicitly wants for itself. For example WPATH’s disappointing pathologizing of treatment for intersex children

WPATH guidelines available here if you want to feel futile about the medical profession [link in doc]

This has caused understandably heated reactions from the intersex community

Here’s an interesting and devastating blog post from an intersex person in the Netherlands about the impact such protocols has had on their own medical care.

However transgender people want their conditions to be categorised and treated, this has nothing to do with intersex people. As you can see this conflation is harmful to the intersex community, who represent a minority but crucial voice in this whole debate.
That voice is being drowned out. Intersex and transgender are not the same thing. In reality, very few transgender people actually have intersex conditions.

Even those members of our community that do transition are finding this appropriation difficult and noticing rifts within the community and their voices being drowned out. For such a tiny group, we cannot allow this to happen.

There are no laws protecting intersex people in the UK. They are an incredibly vulnerable group. We need to find a way to prevent this appropriation and give a voice to the community before they are silenced completely.

In the meantime, go and follow @ ClareCAIS and @ RaeUK, two amazing intersex women who explain all of this stuff better than I ever will.
I'm also going to add @TriciaFrasman's brilliant thread that picks apart the offensive "sex spectrum" arguments used. I also recommend giving Dr Tricia a follow."

Cesira that KaleyT thread you linked has this rather excellent potential sticker in it...can you imagine if the UK Border Force had had this to hand at that NUS conference? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

can you imagine if the UK Border Force had had this to hand at that NUS conference?

this was when the women's toilets were designated 'gender neutral' by NUS Trans delegates leading to the occupation of the toilet when Border Force conference delegates removed their signs:.

Um, CesiraAndEnrico, how do the Italian police feel

Recently my graffiti ridden small rural town got loads of shop windows broken by a coked up bloke firing ballbarings at them.

He got taken to the police station and slapped on the wrist.

Couple of days later he stabbed a random pensioner to death when cocaine fuelled once more.

Thar's pretty much how law and order seems to work here.

The police and carabinieri are busy with bigger fish to fry. Too much of Italy being very pointy means not enough prisons, meaning even quite serious cases get a slap on the wrist/archived. So petty crime tends to get ignored where possible.

Don't rub their noses in it by being not at all surreptitious and all should be well. Avoid v. famous monuments or works of art. Cos... they might be inclined to get unbusy to deal with stickers on those.

Plus it will be in the papers, my husband will see it, have a fit and blame me. He (and so too a lot of his compatriots) is a bit funny about all the old, half-broken, dusty stuff in Italy.

Personally I'd knock it all down to make room for more IKEAs. But there's no accounting for taste, and I am in a distinct minority.

silent crow that would be a great sticker to stick over all the 'any gender' half man/half woman signs you come across. ..

hackmum · 21/08/2018 11:58

Wow - Julia Long absolutely knocked that out of the park, didn't she? I almost felt sorry for poor Vicky, who was outclassed and outmanoeuvred at every turn.

TriptychTwins · 21/08/2018 12:25

Which is exactly why the TRAs have been screaming their No Debate mantra at us for all this time.

Balanced public debate would show their ideology up for what it really is. It would be a massacre.

Lisa Vogel founder Michigan Womyn’s Festival, quoted in Jonny Best's update to recent article: 'The truth about Michigan Womyn’s Festival and trans women — a correction.'
(extract)
"I don’t think this is the greater trans community doing this. I’ve known too many trans women who have it in their hearts to recognize both the similarities and differences between trans womyn and born female. I see a small network of privileged trans women who carry a lot of financial and political clout, who are connected to deep deep pockets and broad political influencers who are running the story tirelessly. And doing a fucking brilliant job of controlling the cultural narrative and advancing legislative changes. In all things we are experiencing now — it only takes the inaction of good people, willing to do nothing, for this to define the shape of our world. "

So I'm knocking about Twitter, idly perusing the reactions to #stickerwoman on my day off, and I find it fascinating that the single, strongest argument that any TRA advocates have is that the stickers are 'mean'.

Which is exactly the kind of deflection that Vicky Lee attempted on LBC this morning - it's impossible to coherently argue against the sentence "Women don't have penises", and obviously the counterpoint of "Some women have penises" is just effective in a slightly different 'WTF?' way, so the only fallback at that stage is to say how mean and nasty women are being for pointing out facts that some don't like.

This is a fine line to tread in the UK, given our national predilection for polite, civilized behaviour, so it was very heartening to hear the LBC discussion and notice that the need for politeness was circumvented by politely pointing out the facts which then activated the delightfully UK trait of telling someone who has overstepped the mark "Don't be such a silly sod."

I am feeling really rather buoyed today.

I'm staying at A Large Lake so I was thinking more of lamp posts and things so I'm sure you'd be in the clear.

There's probably scope for chalk pavement art near some historical sites?

My friend has written a letter to Joe Anderson and wants to publish it online but is scared of being outed. Do you think I should publish it as a thread on MN (with her permission?)

CesiraAndEnrico · 21/08/2018 15:53

My husband is an art historian so I wouldn't dare!

Oh man! Commiserations, mine is an antiques. I'm not sure what he actually does. He spends all day stroking old, dusty shit. I presume he sells it, but it never seems to disappear, there's always loads and loads of it sitting there being musty and dark. I spend my whole life guarding the door to keep it from sneakily trying to come in the house to replace my lovely IVAR.

Also, in other news

Inspired by SilentCrow and her toilet signage findings a new "Some Women Have Penises" has been added to the collection.
