BBC London - Tara Hewitt talking about Hampstead Ladies Pond

At work so can't write fully but just listened to this on local radio. Tara Hewitt, presumably a transwoman, has just been given free reign to call the lesbian group opposing transwomen being allowed to use the ladies pond "bigots". Very biased interview with, as per usual, no balance.
Apparently there's something going on with the Corporation of London today "enshrining" the right of transwomen to use the pond.
I'm sitting here with steam coming out of my ears...

Tara Hewitt is indeed MTF trans and admits that cross dressing sexual fetishists are transgender and thinks that if an MTF has a mastectomy due to breast cancer they suffer more than women do what women have feelings, and suffer, like people?

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 18:23

Then it would be sex discrimination for them not to allow females to use the men's pond.

R0wantrees · 17/07/2018 18:32

Tara Hewitt has a number of key roles/ influence within the charity and health sectors. remote.com/tarahewitt

2016 Article: 'What it's like to be Transgender and Catholic
Tara Hewitt, NHS equality and diversity advisor, doesn't believe in abortion or IVF but says it doesn't affect her job'

(extract)

People don’t know about trans issues, it’s not that catholics are discriminating against trans people, its just that society is discriminating against transpeople.”

She also claims the bible doesn’t focus on gender.

“With the bible there is more of a discussion on sexuality but God doesn’t have a gender - God isn’t male or female, they are both.

“When we talk about God, he’s above that.”

Tara, who lives in New Brighton, is also a pansexual, which means she is attracted to any gender.

But, although she supports gay marriage and same-sex adoption, she doesn’t believe in IVF.

“None of my views are based on sexual orientation I support love.

“Millions of people share my view but, because they aren’t trans, they aren’t targetted." (continues)

I've had an argument with Tara on social media and I would say they have not one single scrap of empathy for women.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/07/2018 18:35

Is that true about the Corporation? Would not surprise me.

Processedpea · 17/07/2018 18:39

there was also a short interview with someone from here with presenter petri was also a bit one sided, the whole thing is really like a monty python sketch

Wanderabout · 17/07/2018 18:41

Were Tara's accusations challenged by the BBC?

I wonder if Fair Play has had an answer to their open letter yet.

The above and other coverage like Newsnight point to some serious bias on coverage of a controversial issue. This is not consistent with their duties as national broadcaster.

Article in Ham&High by Sam Volpe (its discussed in the thread linked above):
'City of London bid to end Kenwood Ladies’ Pond controversy with new ‘fully inclusive’ gender identity consultation'

(extract)
"This follows months of controversy over who should be able to use the bathing area following a protest from some anti-trans swimmers in January.

The corporation has confirmed the consultation would “ensure services [it provides] do not discriminate against trans people”.

A spokesman would not say whether other swimmers would be censured for discriminatory behaviour or hate speech, though this is understood to be on the table.

The move is poignant, coming just days after a separate group of anti-trans protesters forced their way to the front of Saturday’s London Pride march. Organisers there were forced to apologise for not removing them" (continues)

Procrastinator1 · 17/07/2018 18:58

I hope judicial review awaits the corporation if they get it wrong.

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 19:02

The corporation has confirmed the consultation would “ensure services [it provides] do not discriminate against trans people”.

We need their definition of "trans people". So surely the guys who called the police on Man Friday were in the wrong? Or will be now? Unless they are envisaging some sort of gatekeeping? What will that be?

Ekphrasis · 17/07/2018 19:19

May I just say @R0wantrees, you do stirling work, thank you ❤️

HotRocker · 17/07/2018 20:54

So the services provided by the corporation should not discriminate against transpeople, but have they made such an undertaking to prevent discrimination against women?

Magpiesarehuge · 17/07/2018 21:00

Just watched Tara’s youtuble cancer video. I’dclived to know what those listening thought, could only see women. So Tara lists transvestites, pert time crossdressers with fitishes, nb etc all under the trans umbrella. That staff must not assume women have vaginas and mrn have penises. They must use the patients preferred language like “clit” for their penis.

Tbh, it all made me think of Little Britain and Margory the weight watcher rep.

stillathing · 17/07/2018 21:04

Hampstead ponds already has the "third space" which people talk about when trying to work out how to accommodate trans people - in this instance the unisex pond. I think it might surprise people new to all this that this option is not acceptable.

Ereshkigal · 17/07/2018 22:20

Tbh, it all made me think of Little Britain and Margory the weight watcher rep.

Oh yes! Couldn't work out what it reminded me of.

colouringinagain · 17/07/2018 22:40

On BBC London news now! Brilliant work Manfriday!

colouringinagain · 17/07/2018 22:41

There was a women speaking for female only pond, also a lesbian (?!)

And transwoman in a dog collar speaking for transwoman.

So a nice balanced piece of news reporting.

loveyouradvice · 18/07/2018 00:16

What did they say? What's going to happen?

TheFemaleGaze · 18/07/2018 06:44

So does this mean all three ponds become mixed then?

I also pity the lifeguards.

TransplantsArePlants · 18/07/2018 06:55

colouring

Yes. I rolled my eyes a bit there

The BBC London report started off well. But they failed to mention the UNISEX pond that exists

No-one is being denied the right to swim.

TransplantsArePlants · 18/07/2018 06:57

TheFemaleGaze

  1. Male Pond
  2. Mixed Pond
  3. Mixed Pond
TheFemaleGaze · 18/07/2018 07:08

@transplants and this is confirmed?

Because why not demand in that case that all three become mixed? If women have to give up their right, then surely so should men?

TransplantsArePlants · 18/07/2018 07:12

As I understand it.

I agree that it should be one rule for all. But women should not have to give up the women's pond in the first place. And from the reaction of some of the men during the ManFriday Protests, they'd not want to give up the Mens' Pond either

But if anyone is asked to budge over, the precedent is set that it will be women

busyboysmum · 18/07/2018 07:47

Not a chance. I'll be down at the men's pond swimming wirh Man Friday if they decide that. You can't have one rule for men and one for women. If this is what they decide then we must protest vehemently.
