I think it's a great location for this debate to take place but Brighton must be Trans central. I can see there being bigger protests there

Was gonna say-Brighton must be the most woke place in the UK after inner London...good luck.

And really important that women are allowed to speak - in Brighton and everywhere.

That should get some excellent publicity especially if it is heavily protested.

AWP are so mild that when people hear what the aims are that are attracting so much protest they will mainly be on the side of the women.

Ticket bought. See you there! This will be my third feminist meeting this year. Put a big smile on my face. Grin

You should go if you can! It’s important for women to meet up. Brighton will be protested, I expect, but we could all do with all the publicity we can get right now.

Hope you all have an amazing time!

Didn't Brighton have the biggest amount of signatories on the government petition? I think you may have a fair amount of supporters there...

Have a brilliant meeting in the lion's den

I would particularly like to see Helen Saxby. Maybe will come.

Oh brilliant. Fantastic line up.

Go for it! Enjoy it!

I went, alone, to the Cardiff one, back in April. Still inspired by what I heard, and just chatting with other audience members!

Just heard they've been forced out of their venue by TRAs but have found another.

Respect to everyone going to this.

This is the old style terrorism men have traditionally used against women.

Oh cheers, I live in Brighton. Will go along! Wouldn't mind having my say.

Will report back Tuesday.

Everyone is welcome if they're genuinely up for debate, daimbars.

Cool, I've bought my ticket. Sounds interesting - any idea how many people are going? I'll be shy to voice my unpopular opinion to hundreds of people so might go stealth.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/07/2018 21:37

I don't know numbers I'm afraid. Will be interested to hear your take on it!

There's no venue on the ticket - we're they really forced out by TRAs? Seems a bit excessive!

NotTerfNorCis · 13/07/2018 21:45

Yes, details on their website and Facebook page.

Report
thebewilderness · 13/07/2018 21:54

oi oi daim! Will you wear your black bloc costume?

Report
daimbars · 13/07/2018 21:57

Thanks NotTerfNorCis - so not forced out by TRAs at all. Friends Meeting House was uncomfortable hosting an event that only has one side of a sensitive debate without allowing the voice of another.

I can see why - I actually know the guys at FMH as I've held children's markets there. I can assure you they are not TRAs!

Have you not been paying attention?
The TRAs have been threatening to bomb or burn venues that host Feminists for years.
Last fall TRAs stood outside a venue where women met chanting 'burn it down' until the terrorized neighbors called the police to make them disperse.

Lol thebewilderness I've already said I'm gonna go stealth. I could be any one of you.

I've got my ticket. Thanks to WPUK for persisting. It must be so tedious to find another venue when the first lets you down at such short notice, shame on the Friends Meeting House.

Report
NotTerfNorCis · 13/07/2018 22:04

Thanks NotTerfNorCis - so not forced out by TRAs at all. Friends Meeting House was uncomfortable hosting an event

So what happened was this:

As you said, the venue isn't on the tickets because WPUK knew it would be bombarded by all kinds of objections and threats (including potentially bomb threats).

Nonetheless, TRAs tracked down the venue and flooded the staff there with objections, and, knowing TRAs, egregious lies.

As a result the venue caved.

WPUK offered to attend a mediation session but because the TRA objectors would not attend, no mediation could take place and the venue was lost.

It's pretty black and white, daimbars.
