Lisa Muggeridge Suspended by Twitter and Quoting her breaches MN Guidelines

I posted news that another woman has been suspended by Twitter. This seems likely as a result of targetted mass reports

Lisa Muggeridge comments at idgeofreason.wordpress.com

& recently spoke at the Inconvenient Women: We Need to Talk meeting in London.

I posted the quote by Lisa because it concerns me that women are being silenced.

My background is English Literature so my style is to leave a writer's words for others to read for themselves.

There were a number of apparent attempts to derail the thread and so when this happened, I quoted further comment by Lisa Muggeridge. To let her words speak.

I believe in the importance of free speech.

I have many books on my bookshelf, which I am sure may have contentious comments in. I don't though believe that books are dangerous or should be burned.

I also read authors who had serious failings.

I wasn't advised that there was an issue with the OP but understand that within the quoted comment was misgendering.

I felt that it was not for me to edit Lisa Muggeridge's words.

I C&P ed more of Lisa's comments when there were derails. The thread was supposed to be about how women were being targetted and silenced.
When posters continued to reiterate their own feelings I C&Ped an additional comment by Lisa. They were also relevent to what was being said.
I know she popped onto the thread, but she wasn't here.
I felt it appropriate to let her words speak.

Please can I make a plea to the GC women here. Ignore Grizzly, they just want to cause angst and end up making us say something we wouldn't in frustration. If Grizzly talks to themselves, as they like talking about themselves I'm sure they will be very happy and fulfilled.

Elletorro · 20/06/2018 23:42

Rowan

Is there anyway of you saving her idge blogposts?

I have a horrible feeling they will go for that next.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 20/06/2018 23:42

I read those quoted posts by Lisa Muggeridge, and enjoyed reading.

They were very inspirational and direct. They cut through a lot of bullshit.

Bespin · 20/06/2018 23:44

I didn't have a issue with the quotes as I assumed that this is what the tread was about and most were in the context of that. I do think that you should be able to quote the thing you are talking about if you then repeat that yourself and it's in violation of the rules then that is different also the thread had other stuff on it not just that and people debated mostly in good. Faith

spontaneousgiventime · 20/06/2018 23:44

Lisa is fab. I followed her on Twitter. I love her no bullshit style. She is acerbic as hell and I like writers who cut through the flannel and say it as it is.

R0wantrees · 20/06/2018 23:45

I will say also add that this is in the context of spending all of yesterday trying to get a post in response to my request that hysterectomies and infertility are not appropriated reinstated so that it could be seen and my response to it understood.

This followed a series of derails and goadyness on other threads by a poster who was eventually banned.

SIGH

Lang, are you channelling JF this evening? Wink

spontaneousgiventime · 20/06/2018 23:46

I saw it all R0wan, the banned poster was vile. They realised they were causing pain and revelled in it.

R0wantrees · 20/06/2018 23:47

All of the quotes were in good faith.

I had hoped we might discuss the important wider issues that Lisa Muggeridge makes.

I have worked in Social Care so share much of her understanding of sagfeguarding concerns.

Oh FFS. I put a lot of bloody effort into my post on that thread, in amongst dealing with a shitload of crap out here in the real world, with my gender confused daughter having a meltdown and self harming in the bath, her father having a self absorbed paddy about it and trying to actually run a busy household with six people in it, and I've come back to find the entire thread zapped because Lisa Muggeridge is just too damn mouthy for the poor wee woman haters to cope with.
I mean, oh my frigging god, what tortures must your life be if a gobby woman sets you off to such a degree? How can you possibly cope if Tesco runs out of green top milk? Or if you wake in the morning, and woodland creatures don't run out of the forest and make your bed for you?
I really don't go in for all that 'snowflake generation' perjorative, but damn, the determination to shut women up because we hurt sensibilities is rage inducing.

Elletorro · 20/06/2018 23:49

We still can Rowan. Just it’s a pain to have to redact stuff.

R0wantrees · 20/06/2018 23:49

There were important issues raised about homeless services and the vulnerability of women who access these services.

Much is talked about prisons and DV refuges but safeguarding and assesssment of risk is an ongoing process.

I remember your post and thinking how important it was.

I'm sorry, I had no idea this would happen.

It really din't occur to me.

Bespin · 20/06/2018 23:51

I think that if you want to discuss the wider issues then a thread about them might be a better way to address each issue. I assumed we were discussing the twitter ban on that and this thread and now mumsnet responce. To it.

I'm. Happy. To discuss safeguarding concerns as 20 years in health and social care and have a good understanding of safegaurding issues.

Grizzlygrox · 20/06/2018 23:52

I gave an opinion & attempted to explain it when pushed.

And MNHQ deleting the thread, kinda proved my point. Janice Turner hasn’t had her Twitter suspended. It might not be fair, but prudence is needed.

R0wantrees · 20/06/2018 23:55

Elletorro

I'm not that 'tekkie' I'm afraid sorry. Im sure Lisa would have back ups.

I did think that as her focus is on safeguarding women and children, having some of her relevent comments would be good to be able to be read on a thread here.

That hadn't been my initial intention. It just evolved and then made some sense that some good might come from them being accessible on this site too.

Grizzlygrox · 20/06/2018 23:55

And really sorry to hear that FloralBunting. Flowers

Hope your daughter gets the help she needs to accept her body as it is.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 20/06/2018 23:55

Those quoted posts by Lisa Muggeridge are focused on safeguarding women and children, and women and girls' rights. They are plain-speaking, but when was "plain-speaking" ever a drawback for men? They contain no calls for violence - unlike those who oppose us.

Fucking hell, some men are becoming seriously paranoid about women having discussions with each other.

FloralBunting I've read your posts on the other thread and by God you have some strength. My admiration has no bounds for women in your situation. Flowers

FloralBunting · 20/06/2018 23:57

R0wan, of course you didn't, because why would you think that quoting a woman's fiery, eloquent words about the existential threat to women's rights on the Feminist section of Mumsnet would be an issue?

Why would it occur to any but the most cravenly obsequious that an articulate concern for women would be seen as far too inflammatory for public view?

R0wantrees · 20/06/2018 23:59

Grizzlygrox

With respect, you gave your opinion and it was understood.

You then repeated, many times.

On some occasions I posted one of Lisa's comments in response to that.

We are allowed to disagree.

There does need to be nuance rather than this person bad, don't listen to anything they say.

Lisa

Please make back ups.

I bet she doesn’t. That’s really not her style.
