Lisa Muggeridge Suspended by Twitter and Quoting her breaches MN Guidelines

R0wantrees · 20/06/2018 22:22

I posted news that another woman has been suspended by Twitter. This seems likely as a result of targetted mass reports

Lisa Muggeridge comments at idgeofreason.wordpress.com

& recently spoke at the Inconvenient Women: We Need to Talk meeting in London.

I posted the quote by Lisa because it concerns me that women are being silenced.

My background is English Literature so my style is to leave a writer's words for others to read for themselves.

There were a number of apparent attempts to derail the thread and so when this happened, I quoted further comment by Lisa Muggeridge. To let her words speak.

I believe in the importance of free speech.

I have many books on my bookshelf, which I am sure may have contentious comments in. I don't though believe that books are dangerous or should be burned.

I also read authors who had serious failings.

I wasn't advised that there was an issue with the OP but understand that within the quoted comment was misgendering.

I felt that it was not for me to edit Lisa Muggeridge's words.

So relieved to see this thread! I posted about this on the Wednesday register thread and in Site stuff. I’m gutted.

I feel really worried now, if MN new guidance needs to extend to cover the content of what we link to or a whole thread will be zapped.

LightofaSilveryMoon · 20/06/2018 23:25

Just checking: are we actually allowed, at all, to stand up for the rights of women and girls against predatory men (whatever names they decide to adopt), or must we now dance to their tune at all times?

LaSqrrl · 20/06/2018 23:25

Just the link? I did recall some quoted stuff that would have been deemed Naughty.

spontaneousgiventime · 20/06/2018 23:25

There is nothing in the guidelines that mentions anything about links. Nothing!

LangCleg · 20/06/2018 23:26

SIGH.

AntiqueOlive · 20/06/2018 23:27

But it wasn't a link- it was a copy and paste from LM blog?

Maybe it was copywrite problems?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 20/06/2018 23:28

lasqrrl

Thats what's confusing me

If rowan quoted then i can see why she was deleted (though i dont think she should have been deleted)

But if it was the link that was the issue...well! Thats a whole nother kettle of fish

Grizzlygrox · 20/06/2018 23:28

I think R0wan specifically quoted the post that misgendered & used the old name. She C&Ped text instead of linking. The guidelines don’t say you can’t link.

LaSqrrl · 20/06/2018 23:28

I just did the advanced search, and it looks like the whole thread is completely missing - no placeholder to say it had been deleted.

This is a very worrying development.

Bespin · 20/06/2018 23:28

That's a bugger that they deleted a whole thread can we not just take out the bits that break the rules and keep the thread as it mean that all the discussion in it which was around the topic as now been lost. Also all that happens is someone starts the same thread again so it's never ending really

pombear · 20/06/2018 23:28

1984:
Unperson: definition
An unperson is someone who has been "vaporized"—not only killed by the state, but erased from existence. Such a person would be written out of existing books, photographs and articles so that no trace of their existence could be found in the historical record. The idea is that such a person would, according to the principles of doublethink, be forgotten completely (for it would be impossible to provide evidence of their existence), even by close friends and family

Lisa needs to be 'unpersoned' as her thoughts and words do not comply with the worldview we all need to adhere to, to be happy and at one with the world.

This should be funny, a parady, we should be laughing about this - but it's too close to home.
(See 'ya Lisa!)

Datun · 20/06/2018 23:29

Hang on a minute. An entire thread was deleted because the opening post contained a link that misgendered/dead named someone????

That can't be it.

R0wantrees · 20/06/2018 23:29

I think that it refers to something in the comment that I quoted in the OP rather than the link.

Im pretty sure the OP was Lisa's response to having being targetted.

It isn't just that she has been mass reported to Twitter. She has spoken of a much more serious level of targetting and harrassment over some time.

OP posts:
pombear · 20/06/2018 23:30

Lisa who?

No trace!

LaSqrrl · 20/06/2018 23:31

She C&Ped text instead of linking
This was my recollection (not specifically R0wan) but a number of posts/tweets of Muggeridge were C&P'd.

ElliePhantW33 · 20/06/2018 23:31

I worked with a group of programmers to make a mass anonymous reporting tool for Twitter so users can be easily banned over and over again, it's undetectable too, this is the sort of tool that other groups have started to use and Twitter, Twitter have a moderation bot the group's have a mass reporting bot and a Twitter mass registration tool

Datun · 20/06/2018 23:32

And now that thread's been unthreaded.

Elletorro · 20/06/2018 23:35

Hi all

I think for Mumsnet the problem with quotes is that LMs prose has deadnames and correct pronouns etc.

I wondered whether it would get zapped.

I reckon quotes that replace those bits with REDACTED would work.

Adds a nice Stalinist vibe to a thread

R0wantrees · 20/06/2018 23:36

I C&P and also link to the source. I think its important that people can see where I've quoted from.

I see it as a form of referencing.

I am very aware that in today's SM, people don't reference and this contributes to 'fake news' etc.

Its a bug bear of mine, so I always link to source.

OP posts:
LangCleg · 20/06/2018 23:36

most men and women will grow up to love their servitude and will never dream of revolution

But not Lisa.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 20/06/2018 23:36

Thank you for clarifying r0wan

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 20/06/2018 23:37

And now that thread's been unthreaded

Well then this cant be a TAAT

Grizzlygrox · 20/06/2018 23:38

There was lots of C&Ped text. I also reckon the subject of Lisa’s ire is watching.

Bespin · 20/06/2018 23:38

Noticed that Lisa is on account number 6 and as 7 lined up which will. No doubt be banned for the simple. Fact it is trying to get around a suspension if she actually waited out the suspension then she would not keep getting suspended Stright away. At this point its just going to be self for filling am I missing something in this.

Elletorro · 20/06/2018 23:40

Difficulty with deadnames is that some of these people aren’t actually very famous so you don’t realise it’s a deadname
