3 strikes and you're out

spontaneousgiventime · 18/06/2018 13:33

Sorry to start this thread but I'm livid. I'm beyond livid to be fair.

I'm now on strike two and have been warned my posting privilege is at risk.

The reason for this thread is; please don't take the new guidelines at face value. I got a strike today for calling a man who presents as a woman a name NOT on the banned list. Obviously now I can't say what it was, I am effectively gagged.

I now have six weeks of no free speech until the strikes I have are wiped - again effectively gagged.

So, you won't see me much as I will NOT refer to men who present as women as the names we are allowed to call them, so will end up banned. I will post bland banal comments that can't offend any sensibilities here and let rip elsewhere where free speech is encouraged.

PLEASE, please, watch your words or MN will use this as a reason the close the FWR board.

I have asked that the 'Im an infertile woman like you' post is reinstated. Whilst I think the poster had been goady, their comment is significant. If it is deleted, mine and other women's in this thread makes less sense.

I think this matters.

I agree. It's got confusing.

I rarely report goady posts because I prefer them left for others to see.

But I understand why you did. It was bloody personal.

I think the poster had been goady elsewhere. I did not report that post. I chose to respond to it... civilly.

NewbieSpartacus · 19/06/2018 01:25

Amalfi Fuck, is that who Ghost is? I would not have sodding engaged if I'd known!

mrsreynolds · 19/06/2018 01:28

Mnhq have got this SO wrong.

Biology is NOT bigotry.

It's fact.

You can "indentify" as a fucking unicorn for all I care.

Doesnt make you one though, does it?

What is happening wrt women's rights is insidious. What is happening wrt children bring given hormones and surgery is child abuse.

TRAs hate women. They think they are better at being women than actual women.

Perhaps its the obvious end point of male narcissism?....the eradication of women as a sex?

As it's now June I suppose I'd better put the sprouts in a low simmer.....

I AM SPARTACUS

ErrolTheDragon · 19/06/2018 01:31

Amalfi Fuck, is that who Ghost is?

Any evidence for the implication? (Ghost seemed to be in a time zone 8hrs ahead)

thebewilderness · 19/06/2018 01:33

The sock puppet said they were in Oz.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/06/2018 01:34

The posting times were congruent with that.

mrsreynolds · 19/06/2018 01:35

Also:

Sex is one of the 9 protected characteristics of EA.

As I say...

Mnhq have got this SO wrong

Amalfimamma · 19/06/2018 01:54

NewbieSpartacus, Errol, wilderness
In have no evidence but the name "tess" which they use in their bio, email etc, the comment tone and the contemporary posting here and elsewhere.

I understand the poster said they were in a different time zone and claimed to be "In oz" but they've made more ludicrous claims online tbh. I do remember them gaslighting an infertile woman once just like what was done here.

Not to mention the fact that they were adamant in their insistence to remain on the thread, yet once I allowed to the connection the decided to fuck off.

It may be my brain working overtime, the fact that all my deleted messages have been to do wowith th this person, like at least one other poster, or that others posters have been gaslighted online by this twatterazxi, my gut is telling me one thing. And my gut is rarely wrong 2

MilkSpill · 19/06/2018 02:17

This is horrifying. I've been a lurker in these threads for a long time and have finally got up the guts to start commenting following the news of the MNHQ crackdown. It's one thing to have the opportunity to participate in the discussions but choose not to, another thing entirely to have your voice taken away from you.

This is the part that gets me

"it's important that the debate remains civil and constructive"

In other words, be nice ladies. Don't be offensive, don't make waves, it's as long as you are polite you will be allowed a seat at the grownups table. I wonder at what point we are going to be asked what we were wearing to deserve this.

thebewilderness · 19/06/2018 02:52

Amalfimamma
Trust all those tiny bits that go together telling you what you need to know. Trust your gut.
To me there was something off about them saying what time it was in the Spartacus thread. How is that for a weird

Amalfimamma · 19/06/2018 07:25

thebewilderness
Weird? How about the whoever is a child physically may be an adult legally

😬

Floisme · 19/06/2018 07:35

I don't think infertility posts should ever be my call but as a rule, I agree that goady posters do sterling work. I very much doubt anyone followed the Spartacus thread nodding along to Ghost and thinking, 'You know what, you've got a point there.'

I also didn't notice any trans allies coming along to support Ghost. I would imagine they were mortified and more than happy to see those posts taken down.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/06/2018 07:43

So, lurkers, did you note what just happened in this thread? One one side - a bunch of worried, upset, confused regulars trying to figure out how to navigate a policy that at best was poorly thought out and at worse was actively intended to prevent them from speaking the truth. On the other side - a commenter who had already nastily goaded infertile women on another thread who, not content with that, came to this one under a new name (against the rules) to goad and gloat again. The latter party is who the new policy was designed to appease. A person whose idea of activism is to compare female infertility to being unable to get pregnant and give birth to a child because you were born with a penis and testicles rather than a vagina and ovaries and nobody born with a penis and testicles can get pregnant, and who continued making that comparison in the face of many women telling them to stop, that it's upsetting, that it shows no compassion or empathy towards women suffering from infertility at all. And then, when that thread ran out of space, they jumped into this thread, already full of confused, upset, worried women, to do it again.

Why is a parenting website aimed at women trying to appease someone who behaves like that? Do you, lurkers, think that women reading a parenting website should be forced to try to protect the feelings of someone who would behave like that at our own expense?

(And by lurkers I also mean the journalists who we already know read this site. Are you seeing this? Do you understand what it means in terms of free speech, and who's being protected at whose expense? An article about how this situation came about would make interesting reading, don't you think?)

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/06/2018 07:47

Call it out AAK. Every single time. 👍

Journalists- you should be looking at this and worrying. Because this is just the start. Women on MN are an easy target. Once they’ve shut us up, they’ll come for you.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/06/2018 07:49

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Censorship is a dangerous path for a society to be walking down. This needs to stop now.

BeyondSceptical · 19/06/2018 07:51

I wonder if when reporting posts, it might be helpful to ask HQ to allow them to remain? I did report ghost, but I wanted to draw HQs attention to what they are saying (and maybe ban them) rather than wanting their posts deleted.

mrsreynolds · 19/06/2018 07:53

Where the fuck is mnhq!?

AngryAttackKittens · 19/06/2018 07:55

The whole model of deleting any comment that anyone might find offensive is flawed. We're not children who need our eyes covered. Leaving giant holes in conversations is confusing for anyone who reads them later, and in the case of particularly offensive comments actually protects the person who can then claim not to have said what they said.

IIIustriousIyIIlogical · 19/06/2018 07:56

I think that, as MNHQ are not flexible, reasonable or unbiased, it's time to find/create another forum or medium to discuss these issues.

One where the Mods are Cunty Feminists & can make their own rules up - deleting gaslighters, de-railers etc.

Discussion does not mean having to listen to people spouting shite....

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/06/2018 07:59

This is one reason I very rarely report. I’d prefer to have the comment left standing. I’ve had a couple of pretty awful things said to me in the past including one very thinly veiled physical threat. Other people reported them and they were deleted but I actually prefer to let them stand so people can see.

The only posts I report for deletion are the ‘infertile/need a job/want money? Dr. Randomname can cast a spell just send a bazillion quid to ..’ or somesuch. Real spam basically. Or people peddling snake oil.

To me it’s more productive to let things stand in many cases. If one poster is making calm points and the other is threatening them then that’s a powerful message in itself.

I’m still wondering if this new crackdown is legally advised in response to a specific threat towards MN. I have absolutely no evidence for that, it’s just pure speculation.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/06/2018 08:00

And yes, I realize that my first comment upthread will likely be deleted for insubordination. Don't care, as long as some people are able to read it first.

FermatsTheorem · 19/06/2018 08:03

I on the other hand think we need to stick with MN. Journalists (Turner, Gilligan etc.) read MN. They point ordinary people who might otherwise be unaware of the attack on women's rights towards MN. And the extremists can't resist coming over here to tell us of our evil terfy ways - and as Datun points out, usually within half a dozen posts they've demonstrated such complete contempt for women that yet another handful of lurkers have seen with their own eyes what the problem is.

Kettlepotblackagain · 19/06/2018 08:06

The whole reason we (society in general) are in this almighty mess is because everyone is too scared. Scared to offend, scared to say the wrong thing, scared to use the wrong pronoun, scared to speak the truth.

The trans movement took advantage of this PC, Post-truth, post- structuralist, facts are subjective' cultural hegemony and ran with it.

We are actually fighting to be allowed to speak FACTS. Scientific TRUTH. That's what it has come to. At the end of the day, we have nothing to fear because we have truth on our side.

The brilliant GC Feminists are grounding this movement to a halt and in the process they are revealing the Emperor Has No Clothes. We are revealing the true nature of organisations, who cares about women, who only cares about advertising revenue.

It's a fucking hard thing but we need to go through this process because it's revealing a shit of a lot about so many things...
