someone should answer for this

scotsheather my understanding is near 100% of children who start “puberty blockers” go on to cross-sex hormones - never becoming fertile in the first place, if started early enough. These drugs are also being used off-licence, we simply do not know the long term effects of these drugs being used in children, but in adults when used as treatment for medical issues they can have horrific side effects.

LassWiADelicateAir · 16/06/2018 17:45

According to the mum-of-six, Gabriel had always been a bit of a tomboy. He had long hair which he would never let his mum do anything with and he would never let her put make-up on his face

Who puts make up on a child that young? The mother is an idiot.

GenderApostate · 16/06/2018 17:47

Where are Social Services in all this? Or have they all had Mermaids —brainwashing— ‘training’ ?

AssassinatedBeauty · 16/06/2018 17:48

Why is the mum allowing her young child to be made public like this in such a widely read newspaper/website? How much do you get paid by the DM for stories like this?

Strigiformes · 16/06/2018 17:51

This is so sad. So what if she rejects gender stereotypes? The poor, poor thing.

Moloyolofrolo · 16/06/2018 17:58

So much, so wrong.

AmberLangslow · 16/06/2018 18:06

What’s the Leeds connection? Is it the Mermaids woman? Hessle is not particularly close to Leeds - it’s an hour to an hour and a half’s drive away. CAMHS services in the area have been really badly cut back though so unlikely they’ll have had any support from them.

BettyDuMonde · 16/06/2018 18:06

Growing your hair/not brushing it because you don’t like it to be messed with and not wanting someone to put something on your face sounds a) pretty reasonable to me and b) more like sensory processing disorder/ASD (if you really want to labe it).

AmberLangslow · 16/06/2018 18:08

The story has been lifted from the local press - pretty much word for word (except for the location which the DM effed up).

RubyShooFan · 16/06/2018 18:09

Amber the article said she lived in Leeds?

There’s threads on here about how a lot of anti women things have been centred around Leeds/Yorkshire.

I’ll see if I can find and link.

AmberLangslow · 16/06/2018 18:10

She doesn’t live in Leeds - Hessle is 50 miles away or so.

AmberLangslow · 16/06/2018 18:11

Here is the original story.

OrchidInTheSun · 16/06/2018 18:13

Amber - it's Mermaids, West Yorkshire police (who pursued Posie Parker), a charity for LGBT youth where the staff were allowed to have sexual relationships with their clients and a few other unsavoury things.

Poor kid, having their face splashed all over the papers. They can't change their mind now can they?

MumofBoysx2 · 16/06/2018 18:20

It such a shame there is such total gender stereotyping. You have to be either a boy or a girl, and there is still so much stigma attached to people wanting to live as the opposite sex to their birth gender. If we were all much more accepting of people as being either boy, girl or all shades in between maybe people wouldn't feel the need to have to go to extremes and make irreversible changes to their bodies just to 'snap' to the correct sex according to their feelings. Pumping this poor boy's body full of drugs seems such a harsh way to help him feel happy.

RubyShooFan · 16/06/2018 18:20

I can’t find the thread, I think it was @popchyk did a really good post though?

If she hasn’t been banned perhaps she can direct you.

Sarahconnor1 · 16/06/2018 18:22

Wasn't emma healey the MN intern who leaked Ip addresses a Leeds uni student?

SardineReturns · 16/06/2018 18:22

"He has four brothers so I thought it might be to do with that but then he said he wanted his hair cut short."

Because girls physically can't have short hair.
Men and boys cannot and should not ever have long hair.
Short hair is an absolute sign that a person is male.

Moreover, this has held true across the world for all of history.

Hair length is a way better indicator to a person's sex than anything else.

I worry a bit about all this as I have a GNC DD who wore "boys" clothes exclusively for a few years (and it was about being labelled boys rather than the style, this was when she was 8 or so), still always wears a more neutral / masculine style (AKA comfortable), has short hair and wants it shorter etc.

At 10 though she has already started her periods and her body changing doesn't seem to be freaking her out.

She does follow a lot of LGBT+ stuff on animo and I asked her to stop, lots of transboys on there talking about binding etc

I also asked her if she thought people could literally change sex (get a penis / vulva) and she looked a bit confused and went with yes...

I do think that this is the alternative culture of our day, and that's all AOK, blue hair, makeup on boys, call me Dave, whatever. The bit where I baulk is when the medicalisation starts.

I also have a lot of concern about why no-one seems to be making teh (to me) obvious links around female puberty in a sexist society / being an older girl in a sexist society, that girls have always taken steps to try to opt out, and the fact that girls are the largest quickest growing group of trans people (transboys).

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 16/06/2018 18:26

It said the child is being treated in Leeds at the gender clinic there, not that she lives there.

Poor child.

This stood out for me
Gabriel texted me from his dad's house. He said 'do you know what LGBT is?' And I didn't know what it was. He said 'well I'm one of them,' and I asked him if he meant he was trans and he said he was

The mother jumped straight to suggesting trans and ignored completely the possibility the child could be gay. Talk about leading.

AmberLangslow · 16/06/2018 18:35

Leeds is at least an hour away from Hessle - it’s not exactly local, Yorkshire is a big place after all!

Anyway, as I pointed out before the school the child goes to has been in the national press for trans issues but I don’t think think there’s a direct Mermsids link.

Screenshot from Grauniad article I linked to upthread, mentions Mesmac as a local charity involved as well as Barnardos.

Poor kid
LassWiADelicateAir · 16/06/2018 18:36

I will probably get deleted for this but the mother comes across as exceptionally thick.

Maryz · 16/06/2018 18:59

How many of us had short hair, didn't wear make-up, disliked dresses and were "tomboys" when we were under 12?

Sarahconnor1 · 16/06/2018 19:02

That was definitely me and still is to a large extent.

Pratchet · 16/06/2018 19:03

Mesmac is bad enough
