Rufus reading books is a big chunk of my job (and I've just applied to another two review opportunities, what am I doing!). Do not ask how much is on my kindle, it's truly hideous - several hundred in just one category. But I read really quickly.

FiLiA is the big feminism conference in Manchester tomorrow (filia.org.uk), News From Nowhere are running the bookshop and at least four of the speakers are doing signings. If I come home with less than six books I'll be mightily surprised!

7Days · 19/10/2018 22:49

Sorry for ruining your tea Rufus

Sarah if you like the secret life of cows, try the cow book. About a fella who has to come home from his city job to look after the family farm after his dad falls ill. Not as naval gazey as it threatened to be.

I can read fast when im enjoying the book

So i would be no good at any sort of job where i HAD to read Grin

quentin i will oredr that book, the lady at the blood donation place recommended the tattooist of Auschwitz so ive just ordered that one as well

silentcrow · 20/10/2018 09:49

Rufus it is surprisingly hard to get through some books when you know you have to! Generally I know why some styles don't sit well with me and I can set it aside to read more analytically. I have only ever thrown two, maybe three, against the wall in disgust Grin

arranfan · 20/10/2018 13:30

Nipping in for a lunchtime bracer of something soothing after defrosting the fridge and freezer.

Maybe a little ginger and honey?

bluetitsaretits · 20/10/2018 13:35

Hope you're on the mend arran -I had a lot of trouble with a blistered throat for quite a while, turns out it was acid reflux. Maybe worth looking at your digestion if it doesn't clear up.

arranfan · 20/10/2018 21:20

bluetitsaretits - it's several abscesses rather than blisters and it's fellow traveller to sinusitis.

So, I'm hopping mad that somebody left out some veg. in a plastic bag in a warm area that I didn't detect going off tho' I knew something was wrong and I couldn't think where all the fruit flies were coming from. Put an oozy slime over other items and I have clouds of the things everywhere (I found it when I was cleaning).

I need a nice soothing, non-acid drink please. Maybe a pink ginger and honey this time?

My face is like a deflated beach ball and I've thoroughly fed up. But, a convivial atmosphere will lift my mood even if the throat precludes conversation on my part.

bluetitsaretits · 20/10/2018 21:29

Oh that sounds rough.Flowers
I've never heard of pink ginger -sounds intriguing.

arranfan · 20/10/2018 21:33

Several firms offer a decent pink ginger cordial - a bit like this one: www.amazon.co.uk/Thorncroft-Pink-Ginger-Cordial-Pack/dp/B00HFSNCPU?tag=mumsnetforum-21

arranfan · 23/10/2018 22:29

Sinusitis still with me and I'm crawling to bed - as ever, if I don't make it, please take my ginger drink from my hand and drop a blanket over me.

Thank you.

Gentle music and hubbub welcome.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/10/2018 23:02

sorry you're still suffering- I've been fortunate enough to only have had sinusitis once, it was grim.

I've just got back from a holiday in Athens (the city of the Goddess of wisdom, who inherited her brains from her mother) of so I'll contribute a bottle of retsina and a box of nougat.

arranfan · 24/10/2018 15:26

I will chip off a bit of that nougat and let it dissolve in my mouth, if that's OK - I need something to soothe my throat and (hopefully) cough.

The infection has now settled on my chest (very unusual for me).

I'd like a hot elderflower drink, please. And a bit more of that nougat to soothe my inflamed tissues.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/10/2018 15:29

I'm sure I must have a pot of Greek honey somewhere in my baggage...

It's a bit early but I think we may need to mix up some passion fruit martinis this evening.

QuentinWinters · 24/10/2018 20:52

Omg that thread is a sure sign how many people are visiting this board but not feminist. I had to step away

Arranfan using a Neti pot regularly cured by chronic sinusitis issues.

Hope you are starting to feel
Better.

Arranfan using a Neti pot regularly cured by chronic sinusitis issues.

I've got some salt and bicarb, plus a squeezy bottle and a helpful video. Tonight is the night.

So, definitely in need of a post-sinus-irrigation bracer later, please.

TheClitterati · 25/10/2018 14:24

Hope it helps.

I've gone from years of full on (and worsening) sinus infections usually resolved only by antibiotics, every time I had so much as s sniffle, along with massive problems flying etc, to barely any issues at all now.

If I do start to feel sinus issues starting I go back to using the netti pot twice a day and it sorts it out.

TheClitterati · 25/10/2018 14:27

silentcrow the News From Nowhere stall was fab wasn't it. I came home with EIGHT lovely feminist books (2 for DC for Xmas).

LauraMipsum · 25/10/2018 22:14

Only eight? Grin

I'm drinking Badger and attempting to stop myself starting a massive twitter war with an arsehole.

silentcrow · 26/10/2018 00:40

Eight! That's even more than me, I can feel officially Not Guilty now. Grin Although I did order the beautiful Suffragette: The Battle for Equality by David Roberts today. And my daughter bought Jacqueline Wilson's Opal Plumstead (whilst wearing a FiLiA t-shirt, no less).
