no one for coffee?

I'm thinking I need a Twitter break for at least a week. Can you lovely pubgoers help me keep off it? I like my online chat Smile

I'm perilously close to saying something that might upset someone (though admitted if "woman = adult human female" is upsetting then it's a hard line to stay behind).

QuentinWinters · 29/09/2018 17:57

I hate Twitter. Bunch of weirdos on there. I don't understand how transgender women posting videos of their erect penis is ok but woman = adult human female is not

ErrolTheDragon · 29/09/2018 18:05

I don't twit or FB. MN is more than enough - I sometimes need to go cold turkey even from here. I'm going on holiday soon, which sometimes kicks off a period of abstinence.

SophoclesTheFox · 29/09/2018 18:23

there's been some really warm afternoon sun in London, getting to about 20, 21 outside. I think the last of that is today though

It's still been lovely today - have spent most of it out in the park, and latterly in the beer garden. It's got that lovely autumnal feeling, but still with some nice sunshine - bliss Grin

I don't twit either, errol, and I dip in and out of facebook. I have to limit time and engagement on social media, I just don't find it's good for me.

Womaningreen · 29/09/2018 19:13

Yes, today was nice too, hope it continues. Autumn cyclamen in the park, lovely sunsets.

I do some creative writing so most of my Twitter contacts come from that. It's mostly a lot of fun for me but last night I was looking at the Leeds thing and argh....

I find social media really helpful, partly because of being an introvert and partly because of spending a lot of time at elderly mum's house, which can be lonely in a way.

bluetitsaretits · 30/09/2018 20:55

Don't want be presumptuous, but may I turn on the lights, take the little towels off the pumps and plug in the jukebox?
Am in need of a cider and would like to buy sophoclesthefox a drink. You proper choked me up today with that Lord of the Rings analogy. And I've been trying so hard to be less emotional lol!

VickyEadie · 30/09/2018 21:00

I'm off the booze most of the time at the moment, but will take a virtual gin and tonic, if anyone's making one.

TheTrickyWitch · 30/09/2018 21:10

Make mine a hot toddy as DD has just passed on her cold and it's feeling chilly up north. Brew

TheTrickyWitch · 30/09/2018 21:11

I have also been finding the lurkers threads very inspiring. Hence delurking myself!

bluetitsaretits · 30/09/2018 21:24

Have a G&T from me, vicky. Hot toddy is a great idea tricky -it's freezing here too.

It's been a rough weekend but mumsnet has really cheered me up and I feel like celebrating.

So many women from all walks of life coming together and speaking up.
WineGinFlowers to you all!

Womaningreen · 30/09/2018 21:28

I fancy a Prosecco!

Jukebox request....Sisters are doin it for themselves....oh yes we are

HumberElla · 30/09/2018 21:36

Hello, heard the music was on so thought I’d pop by and see if there were any other recent FWR de lurkers in? It was great to get a sense of how many of us there really might be out there.
What a week!

Womaningreen · 30/09/2018 21:44

It's great to see you, delurkers Smile

bluetitsaretits · 30/09/2018 22:03

Great choice of music womaningreen , maybe we can follow it up with some more Annie Lennox. 1984 seems appropriate!

FloralBunting · 30/09/2018 22:13

Evenin' all.

Bloody, bloody awful time IRL, and I'm enjoying the opportunity to escape for a few minutes during the day with women who are intelligent and fearsome, funny and kind.

PerverseConverse · 30/09/2018 22:14

Hope no one has brought their alcohol from Ocado! WineGin

Womaningreen · 30/09/2018 22:19

Meredith Brooks "bitch" anyone?

Nothing against Shania Twain, but if there's a banned list, "man, I feel like a woman" should be on it.

bluetitsaretits · 30/09/2018 22:20

floral Flowers to you -sorry life is tough for you. Your posts are always so informative -lots of love on here for you.

FloralBunting · 30/09/2018 22:29
Smile

I was thinking about the transpel according to Shania actually. The line that's always boggled me a bit is 'Men's shirts, short skirts'. I still don't really know what she's getting at there. But it occured to me that I bet the Bunce does as his star turn at Karaoke...Grin

scepticalwoman · 30/09/2018 22:32

Gin definitely needed these days.
For anyone who hasn't come across this, I use it to cheer myself up - even start my day with it, just to remind myself of what awesome women and groups are out there.
www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=20&v=eZY0uVxrM7c

And if anyone missed the Julie Bindel interview this is so worth listening to. She was one of the first feminists to identify this issue - and maybe if she'd been listened to back in the day, we wouldn't be in this mess.

So end (or start) the week with this inspirational lot.

bluetitsaretits · 30/09/2018 22:38

Yeah, never really got that song.
Did anyone see CJ on the last leg? They played 'natural woman ' in memory of Aretha Franklin.
Grin
Proper pissed meself!

Needmoresleep · 30/09/2018 22:46

The video is great. 'Mumsnet lurkers': good name for a band?

bluetitsaretits · 30/09/2018 22:47

Thanks sceptical , great video

FermatsTheorem · 30/09/2018 22:50

Evening all, I'll have a glass of port. Seems suitably autumnal; although today was lovely and warm, the nights are drawing in. And a spot of Aretha on the jukebox - R.E.S.P.E.C.T will do nicely.

bluetitsaretits · 30/09/2018 23:05

I'd love to know what Aretha would have said about all this -there was someone who knew about true oppression.
