I reckon Aretha would have sung this - loudly.

Just popping in to say I love you all and thanks for everything, cheers Gin

FermatsTheorem · 30/09/2018 23:16

Thank you sceptical. Proper made my evening that has. (And Obama wiping away a tear - ah, memories of a happier, saner, more liberal world...)

scepticalwoman · 30/09/2018 23:19

A pleasure Fermats.
I loved her singing - and the wonderful Carol King as well so the two of them plus the Obamas. Flowers

bluetitsaretits · 30/09/2018 23:33

Oooh Carol King! Someone who began a successful music career back when it was ok to look like a normal person! ❤

FloralBunting · 01/10/2018 00:02

I love that R.E.S.P.E.C.T. was originally written for a man. Totally transforms the song to have it sung by a woman. Like it sets the world aright somehow for a woman to demand respect because we so often don't get it, whereas from a man it would have been really quite an unpleasant song. It's that difference between the song of the oppressed and the oppressor.

bluetitsaretits · 01/10/2018 00:15

I didn't know that floral -that would totally change the vibe of the song!

bluetitsaretits · 01/10/2018 00:22

Yes, power dynamics are so important. That's why the concept of 'equality' doesn't always work for me know. I prefer 'equity' because the playing field is not level.

SophoclesTheFox · 01/10/2018 06:42

Hey bluetitsaretits, I missed you getting a round in last night! A glass of rioja please, barkeep Grin

I choked myself up with that analogy. I found that thread with the unexpected massive support for FWR pretty emotional. I think I'd got used to us being told off like irritating children and banned left right & centre, then that...I may have snivelled a bit.

bluetitsaretits · 01/10/2018 09:18

Good morning sophocles - Never too early for a rioja Wine here you go!
I found it all very emotional too- been used to keeping this bottled up so it was amazing to see all the support here.
Felt like something really special was happening.
It's really cheered me up, will be facing the week in a better mood.

Onwards and upwards, everyone!

Womaningreen · 01/10/2018 10:44

ooh how nice to have a pub full on a Monday morning!

got to do some stuff on the computer for my mum today (elderly, doing the caring thing, can be a bit lonely) so I will hop on here for some chat.

Thinking to join WI but because I flit between home and mum's I will have to find out how it works. I tend to be quite last minute meeting friends because there's a high level of "you never know" in my life and I don't like to cancel on people. Anyone in the WI here?

QuentinWinters · 01/10/2018 11:57

Wow looks like I missed a party. Off to read the lurkers thread. I'm off alcohol arm but a mint tea would be good

QuentinWinters · 01/10/2018 12:03

Omg. I want to cry now I've read the "why do you use mumsnet?" Thread. I have been having a really rough year and it's made me emotional that lurkers might be touched by what I write here (I'm trying hard to ignore the bit of me saying "obviously they don't mean you!" Grin)
It's so lovely

Womaningreen · 01/10/2018 12:56

Quentin, didn't you open the pub?

Cheers Wine

QuentinWinters · 01/10/2018 13:36

Only the last couple of threads. It's been here much longer than me. CheersWine

bluetitsaretits · 01/10/2018 14:33

Afternoon all, just popping in for a quick lunchtime Wine (so not like me!).
Buoyed up by last night's sesh I had a wonderful chat this morning with a group of women that use a local facility near me.
They got it straight away.
Pointed them to the consultation guidance etc.

This is the best pub ever-
Chin chin!
Grin

TheTrickyWitch · 01/10/2018 20:36

Good evening wonderful women of FWR. I'm getting myself a G&T if anyone would like to join me?

Just home after a 12 hour day and ready to unwind Smile

FermatsTheorem · 01/10/2018 20:58

Yes please, Tricky, mine's a Lagavullin.

The pub is lovely. For newcomers, I should mention that we have a lovely brass patriarchy busting canon, and a pet goat (due to countless invasions of goaty fuckers - we thought we'd counterbalance it by having the real thing).

It can be decorated according to the reader's preferences. I favour a roaring woodfire, leather armchairs and sofas, shelves of interesting books and wood panelling. If memory serves me right, we installed a smokers' corner with excellent air-con so that smokers didn't have to shiver outside, but non-smokers didn't have to put up with the smell (our establishment exists outwith legal constraints). We take turns to tend the bar (I did a stint about a year ago).

Oh, and it's called The Bluestocking.

SmellyHead · 01/10/2018 21:00

I don't know where to put this, but it made me smile. Hope it's okay to just leave it here twitter.com/naomipaxton/status/1046765674561966080?s=21

Evening Fermats Smile

I'll just snuggle down in a leather chair by the fire whilst I update myself on today's threads.
Just finished the one about the latest delightful female identifying paedophile. I may need a stronger drink and access to the cannon!

FermatsTheorem · 01/10/2018 21:30

The canon is all yours. And I didn't see you use it (for whatever it was you wanted to use it for, if indeed you used it at all...)

I was busy at the time, putting up a new bookshelf to house the collected works of Germaine Bunbury (see public service thread for details) Grin. They're rather nicely bound first editions and should look very pleasing to the eye, as well as being a cracking good read.

scepticalwoman · 01/10/2018 21:33

Gosh, people started early. Wine free couple of days so a nice warming hot chocolate for me.

Smelly - I loved the Old Mother Hubbard poem!

Quentin I have been looking at your username in a bemused way the last few days - but now of course, I get it! Grin

I'm always on the lookout for some of her 'lost' works, so would appreciate anyone finding one posting details up here or on the PSA.

I'm with my Dad for a couple of days. He's 85. He tells me the same things over and over again. He's shouting at the live football. I've just had a cup of tea and a bit of malt loaf.

Acorninspring · 01/10/2018 21:35

I'm going to peer wistfully through the window as my DC have given me a stomach bug and I don't want to pass it on to all you wonderful women.
