A quadruple dark and stormy (do they come in quadruples?) please.

Ugh, today's headlines. 80% of teenage girls suffer serious mental illness after sexual assault (part of me want to scream "no shit sherlock - you had to be told this?!" and the other part of me thinks "thank fuck a national newspaper is actually carrying this"). Then there's Bannon wanting to start a far right party in the UK with backing from Americans (surely this must be against the law...), far right Americans paying for that odious little shite Tommy Robinson's appeal, and polls suggesting that 24% of Britons would vote for an anti immigrant, anti Muslim far right party. And the lead article in the Telegraph is a first person account of being on the receiving end of anti-Semitism, and why she and her husband are emigrating to Israel (can't say I blame her, I think I would too.) Then there's that poor 3 year old that some evil fuckers have poured acid over.

Please can the world stop while I get off, crawl under an outer-space duvet and try to pretend it's not happening?

LighthouseSouth · 24/07/2018 18:37

@FermatsTheorem

"Please can the world stop while I get off, crawl under an outer-space duvet and try to pretend it's not happening"

yy to this and yy to a quadruple!

I must admit I'm not paying a huge amount of attention to world events due to elderly parent events ....at the moment I just think heavy drinking must be the answer to everything. Including being assured I won't live too long....!

LighthouseSouth · 29/07/2018 17:30

no one drinking?

friend just said to me that Sharp Objects is really worth watching/reading but it turns out to be YET MORE girls being murdered.

VickyEadie · 29/07/2018 17:45

Unforgotten is on again tonight.

I'm off for a cava, there's a bottle in the fridge...

LighthouseSouth · 29/07/2018 17:51

oh I watched the first one, wasn't sure really.

oooh cava sounds good.

QuentinSummers · 29/07/2018 18:49

Hi everyone. Tried to find the pub earlier but couldn't! Hope everyone is well xx

Dude, where's my pub? Grin

thanks Quentin, it's a mad world at the moment isn't it.

just thought, re, TV, is anyone watching Picnic at hanging Rock?

I love it so far - but I also loved the start of the book and found it petered out into...not very much. Bloody love Natalie Dormer - not least because of her portrayal of a female Moriarty "as if men had the monopoly on murder". I need a GIF of that!

FloralBunting · 29/07/2018 20:15

I have been at work since stupid o'clock this morning, and I have been kept going by the thought of kids in bed by 8.45 and watching Unforgotten with no-one else around. I adore Nicola Walker.

FloralBunting · 29/07/2018 22:24

Oooo, and 't'were good! I love Cassie and Sunny's friendship and working relationship.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 29/07/2018 23:02

Runs in for a swift half

OunceOfFlounce · 29/07/2018 23:31

Haven't posted in what seems like ages so just wanted to raise a glass to you all. Cheers m'dears.

LighthouseSouth · 29/07/2018 23:34

@FloralBunting

That's what got me into series 1. There's not a lot of friendship shown on tv at the mo. Also theirs seems very natural, like watching your own friends.

Valerian doesn't smell of fish though. It smells evil but it's not like sardines or anything.

FloralBunting · 29/07/2018 23:37

LighthouseSouth, I loved "You're welcome!" tonight. Me and DP high fived at that point.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 30/07/2018 00:15

I loved the first season of Unforgotten Smile glad to hear it stays good will look out for it. I love Nicola Walker too she's the reason I watched it - she was brilliant in spooks.

QuentinSummers · 30/07/2018 19:50

Cheers everyone Gin

sorry to be depressing but...here we are again!

www.dailytelegraph.com.au/lifestyle/food/shocking-moment-male-punches-female-student-in-the-face-outside-paris-cafe/news-story/fdf808495b118265e3e298d1c1f3173c?from=htc_rss

this is why I say the law needs to outline what's an acceptable response. If anything, SHE should be permitted to punch the fucker. I am so sick of men.

LighthouseSouth · 02/08/2018 16:39

is everyone on holiday?

oh well, I'll chat to myself...Grin

I was wondering, are there any "nice" workplaces left?

everything seems to be a race to minimal space and hotdesking and I was just wondering if anyone has a nice office with air con and fresh fruit and stuff. I know a couple people at mega corporates who still have this but I guess you need to be working at a FTSE 100 company or something to get that?

FloralBunting · 02/08/2018 21:04

LighthouseSouth, honestly, as a lowly retail worker, I'm a little in awe of nice workplaces.
I got told to 'fuck off bitch!' a week ago because I had to say no to a male customer who then threw the goods he was holding at me. This after a nine hour shift constantly on my feet.

I'm not moaning, I really do love my job, but sometimes I do fantasize about wearing smart, professional clothes rather than itchy uniform and sitting in an office with lots of natural light and access to tea. Grin

LighthouseSouth · 02/08/2018 21:58

I've just caught up with the Balls programme about Trump. A whole hour with no mention of Trump's misogyny. Not one. I'd like to say unfuckingbelieveable but perhaps I shouldn't be surprised.

@FloralBunting

I hope I never have to do a public facing job again, I feel for you.

My current office overlooks a maintenance yard and is about 32c but the noise from the yard puts us off opening windows anyway, even if air was coming in. Beats my previous office which was in a basement with an outflow pipe next to the only window.

I'd like to choose my next job on the basis of a nice office! But do they exist? Well, they must do, but in 25+ years I've never managed to get one.

I also think there's a health and safety hazard with the way boxes are kept in our offices but Human Remains don't care so I can only think a Fire Service visit might help.

Also only one cockroach so far, but plenty of mice, that's london I guess. And still no one wants to put the biccies in a tin. Sigh.

louiseaaa · 03/08/2018 13:30

Large g&t please. Had a chat with a mate yesterday and basically she's too busy doing the caring and shitwork to think about the GRC issues. As are quite a few women, i would imagine. Funny how none of the TWAW crew do any of the wife work, from what I see they are still outsourcing it on women, thats why they want our spaces, none of the mens spaces would have a clue what to do. And breath.

Melamin · 03/08/2018 19:07

Pint of G&T with lots of ice please.

Do you have a garden?

FloralBunting · 03/08/2018 19:17

Brilliant moment today. DP is usually pretty reasonable about the shitwork and attempts to pull his weight, but we are still very much in a hangover from me being submissive super housewife.
He did three baskets of ironing earlier in the week. I haven't put any of it away as I have been at work and Foodbank volunteering and yesterday I cleaned both bathrooms, collected three binbags full of rubbish, cleaned the kitchen, put more washing on, and made everyone's dinner.

He had a pop today that I hadn't put all his hard work away, and my daughters rounded on him and told him that a) he could have done it himself, b) he could have asked them to do it and c) there was no grounds at all to be rude to me and he should apologize.

So, he did. And then he put the ironing away and made me a cuppa.Grin

Melamin · 03/08/2018 19:41

I haven't done any ironing for weeks Blush Too Hot. DH does his own shirts.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/08/2018 22:10

Floral It sounds as though he's following you on a learning curve out of the old ways - great that your daughters are onside and he took their point. Wine

Of course The Blue Stocking has a garden, as every good pub should on a warm summer evening. Especially one that has a goat (for reasons obscured in the mists of time, I've no idea why) 🐐

R0wantrees · 03/08/2018 22:14

I always understood that there should be 2+ goats... solitary ones don't do well!
Just back from a long dog walk- cold beer calling.
