I was going to say something about that. It is really slow - the other things I have on are working normally. It was a bit off yesterday too and I just put it down to my bad internet

Nice tee shirt Grin

LighthouseSouth · 02/07/2018 11:12

has it been too hot in the pub?

Random comment - I'm beginning to understand why some people talk shit all the time, or make up tall tales.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/07/2018 11:25

Why's that then, lighthouse? It's still a mystery to me!

LighthouseSouth · 02/07/2018 11:33

I think they are batting off all the crazy they've encountered

my dad got so many questions about his job he started saying "I can't tell you what I do" - I was embarrassed originally but over the years I've begun to be on board with that one

this weekend one of my friends was told "you're such a hippie, I never dreamed you'd care about your children's uni choices". We are still trying to work out what makes a hippie.

then the shit I see on every vegan thread - fake meat, avocados, and now apparently it's a belief system.

so maybe it's easier to just talk shit because some people will judge you on the oddest things. (though the hippie thing remains a complete mystery, the friend in question is a professor too, so, hmm, yes, some knowledge of universities Confused)

LighthouseSouth · 02/07/2018 20:51

Any pub goers know why we have an influx of "ask me anything" threads? Are we being spammed or trolled or something?

ISaySteadyOn · 06/07/2018 12:28

Aren't AMAs a reddit thing?

Melamin · 06/07/2018 13:08

They seem to be a publicity exercise to me.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/07/2018 14:00

I've not opened any of them, assumed they were the product of hot weather ennui

BeyondRaggydoll · 06/07/2018 16:08

I'd like to buy the house drinks ALL NIGHT

My friend just got the all clear on cancer scan and I'm weeping with joy.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/07/2018 18:41

Winethat's definitely worth raising our glasses to!
(Mines still a Brewin reality as I have my weekly phone meeting with my boss at 7:30)

BeyondRaggydoll · 07/07/2018 18:09

Oh lighthouse, that is fantastic news! Wine

No drinks for me tonight, eight nights in a row was enough. My liver needs a break!

Melamin · 07/07/2018 18:41

I'm on chilled whate wane, thanks Smile

Very good news for you. I like an all clear.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/07/2018 19:20

I've got enough rosé left to make an iced spritzer.

WrongOnTheInternet · 07/07/2018 21:33

Room for a tourist?

I wondered if anyone knew anything about a group called 'Families need Fathers'? Are they a reasonable group or something masquerading under a nice mask? I just saw this www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-44628179 and with all the recent hype about collapsing rape trials and economic disadvantage for, seemingly aimed, at women, wasn't sure what to think.

R0wantrees · 07/07/2018 23:30

That's wonderful news, I'm so pleased. I may have missed last orders but cheers!

FreeofPills · 08/07/2018 12:49

hello all
regular, NC.

I know we've talked about mental health on these pub threads in the past so I wondered if I could direct you to this - sorry if cheeky but no one really seems to post in Mental Health much - I'm thinking to come off meds and would be interested in hearing experiences.

thanks and sorry for interrupting but the only reply so far is from someone whose prescription ran out

Redundancy1 · 10/07/2018 18:29

Hi pub goers

I was thinking, much as id like England to win....

Suppose we don't. Would that mean the third place play off match would be a high risk of things being smashed up etc? I have heard that people don't really care about the third place but I don't know....police are closing lots of roads so do have a plan in place. I'll be home on Wednesday night but had plans for Saturday.

WrongOnTheInternet · 10/07/2018 20:45

I expect it would be a further reason for violence, yes. Maybe it'll be bad enough that there will be a public inquiry, lessons learned, then back to normal the next day.

Redundancy1 · 14/07/2018 22:06

Looks okay so far

Wonder if pubgoers will know the answer to this

There's a pub on my street, it changed hands, refurbed and now has a licence for music till 2am on Saturday nights. Should residents on the street be consulted or is it just something that happens if you live near a pub? It used to shut at 11.30.

They have the DJ in the garden area. In fairness it has all been good music, lol, but I am surprised we weren't asked.

LauraMipsum · 16/07/2018 22:48

@Wrongontheinternet as far as I'm aware FNF are an MRA group.

@Redundancy1 they may have applied for an extension to their alcohol licence and a late entertainment licence in one fell swoop. There's details on how to do it here: www.gov.uk/guidance/entertainment-licensing-changes-under-the-live-music-act

I think I need a large double gin if it's not last orders yet. I just tweeted (very mild) support for WPUK and am being accused of all sorts of tinfoil-hatted nonsense. I think I need to mute it because this is mm..mmmm..mmmmmMAD, and if I say that I will no doubt be guilty of literal violence.

I stay off Twitter, it seems like a medium more likely to shed heat than light. But I have much respect for the feminists and allies who manage to engage with it.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 20/07/2018 19:36

Evening all!

Friday night and I’m ready for a drink. The latest shenanigans depress and galvanise me in equal measure. Not quite measured enough to post much myself. I just want to tell the GFs to fuck off. Grin

On a positive note, I bought a copy of the Womankind magazine today. I’m really enjoying it - interesting, thoughtful articles.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/07/2018 19:47

I hadn't heard of that - is it in WH Smith's etc?
Mind you, I've got a backlog of New Scientists I really ought to read before buying anything else.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 20/07/2018 20:04

Yes, got it in WH Smith. It’s focus this month is Iceland so there are good articles about the women’s strike of 1975 and interviews with leading Icelandic women.

Looking at the back issues, it seems they have a different country focus each month.

I also like the New Scientist too and have been guilty of building a pile to read. Grin
