Liberal Democrats: ‘why are transphobes protesting? Because they are thick’

In case anyone was hoping that the LibDems might offer some political sanity in turbulent times, don’t bother.

Their LGBT thread on why ‘transphobes’ - women with concerns - are ‘a bit thick’: Thread Here

We could do with a sensible third party in British politics. Too bad the Lib Dems keep ruling themselves out.

Sex and gender are increasingly being used as synonyms. I frequently see equality monitoring forms asking for your gender rather than your sex (which is the protected characteristic in the UK).

I know-I frequently notice this. I'm not sure who to contact to put it right? I always change it to "sex" if the medium allows it. It's not compliant with the EA is it?

At work one Of our online forms says gender and there's a drop down box and one of the options is "empty"GrinI think that will be me-i.e. the whole idea of gender is bollocks

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 07/06/2018 08:47

Do the 'political parties' not read each others crap

I mean i know its as boring as all fuck

But know your enemy and all that

Labour randoms are definitely making murmurings about looking at the equality act

So that would make some libdem randoms pretty...oh gosh whats the word i want, ohh yes....thick

And does anyone know this next bit.... they mentioned signing a form saying you will be the other sex forever aaahhhh ..... how the actual fuck are they going to inforce that?

SardineReturns · 07/06/2018 08:51

There was also that thing where they wanted to change age to be a prostitute/ in porn to 16.

They had trouble with women being mistreated as well iirc.

I left over that, some years ago, as I realised that what a lot of them were mainly interested in liberalising was where they could stick their dicks.

SardineReturns · 07/06/2018 08:52

None of the mainstream parties have any interest in women past them doing lots of donkey work on the ground.

Melamin · 07/06/2018 08:53

Do the 'political parties' not read each others crap

They clearly do not read their own crap, although you would think they would read each other's in order to put the boot in.............too many glass houses?

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/06/2018 08:59

Excellent posts pencils

Calling part of your electorate a bit thick worked extremely well for the remain campaign didn’t it? I mean they won outright... oh no, wait, they didn’t. Because a political party calling people who don’t agree with them thick is a sure fire way to whip up a good protest vote.

That libdem account is breathtaking - what the fuck has happened to politics where such lack of personal restraint is allowed without consequences?

TheElementsSong · 07/06/2018 09:06

Who the hell do I vote for now? All the parties seem to have swallowed the Kool-Aid.

LangCleg · 07/06/2018 09:08

That libdem account is breathtaking - what the fuck has happened to politics where such lack of personal restraint is allowed without consequences?

I have come to the conclusion that the chattering/media/mediating classes are so insulated inside their bubbles that they have all been entirely brainwashed by their own propaganda. In this case, they actually believe that there is a tiny minority of witches TERFs and the rest of the country is completely on board with gender identity theory.

And they're all like it with their own particular hobby horses. It's very worrying really - the entire institutional and political class lacks any "common touch" or understanding about what the country is actually thinking. Let alone what would even be good for the country.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 07/06/2018 09:09

hey clearly do not read their own crap

That's probably embarrassment

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/06/2018 09:12

There should be some kind of national service for politicians. You’re not allowed in a position of power until you’ve spent 6 months working the checkout at Tesco, delivering personal care in a home, or digging roads. Or have had a career in whatever your portfolio is.

The lack of common sense, the narcissism, and the sheer lack of personal control is breathtaking. PoliticsLite.

LangCleg · 07/06/2018 09:14

There should certainly be something more than student politics and a degree from a clearly corrupted liberal academy, anyway.

Melamin · 07/06/2018 09:17

Wasn't national service 2 years? Six months is not long enough. They also need to be processing the goods in the stockroom - the checkout would allow them too much self promotion.

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/06/2018 09:19

You’re harsh melamin but I like it. gavel two years it is! Grin

Seriously though, lack of real world experience is a dangerous thing when combined with power for many. Was it belgium who couldn’t form a government and just let the civil servants and experts get on with it for a while, and everything was fine...?

KERALA1 · 07/06/2018 09:25

They should have had a quick skim read of the hundreds of daily mail comments in the article on self ID and prisons. The silent majority views were the same as ours.

daimbars · 07/06/2018 09:26

I'm really pleased the OP started this thread as it gives lurkers the opportunity to hear from 'the other side'

Stonewall also has some information which puts across the trans P.O.V

pastabest · 07/06/2018 09:28

I cancelled my direct debit to the Lib Dem's earlier this year.

They have completely lost sight of what they were supposed to stand for.

It's a strange world where conservatives look like the least bad option (and that's hardly a compliment!). As a public sector worker the idea of voting for them is abhorrent, for the first time I genuinely don't know how I would vote if a general election was called.

FermatsTheorem · 07/06/2018 09:28

For once I agree with Daim - everyone should read that twitter thread in all its patronising, infantalising glory, then read Pencil's rebuttal with links to the actual policy documents clearly proposing changes to the Equalities Act, and make their own mind up.

Offred · 07/06/2018 09:28

Lol, sex and gender are the same thing and no changes to EA proposed? What do they think conflating sex and gender does to sex based protections in the EA?!

flowersonthepiano · 07/06/2018 09:31

pencils your response is excellent. Any chance of posting on Twitter and tagging in the libdem account?

daimbars · 07/06/2018 09:38

I'm not necessarily in disagreement with Pencils and the suggestion of leaving the law as it is. Would this satisfy the GC feminists though?

The point of self ID was to remove the bureaucracy and admin from the GRC process but it just seems to have whipped up a frenzy of anti trans rhetoric, the majority of which has nothing to do with self ID.

Offred · 07/06/2018 09:43

How transphobic of you daim you big TERF you... 🙄

Don’t you realise it’s views like yours that are killing transpeople daily all over the UK?!

LangCleg · 07/06/2018 09:46

Would this satisfy the GC feminists though?

Wouldn't satisfy me. I want EA single sex exemptions strengthened and for orgs, companies and institutions to be required to refer to their customers and service users, not loudmouth activists and lobby groups, before deciding to ignore them. I want an end to teaching the gender identity religion as fact to vulnerable children in primary schools.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 07/06/2018 09:47

Post after post after fucking post of people saying dont tit about the laws and its only self id im worried about

And there are still posts like Would this satisfy the GC feminists though?

Fucking tiresome

daimbars · 07/06/2018 09:53

The current law legally recognises trans women as women bar a few exemptions in the Equality Act.

I think the strength of the anti trans sentiment on here and the 'You can't argue with biology' arguments show GC feminists are not happy with the law as it stands.

53rdWay · 07/06/2018 09:54

Well, nothing short of the liberation of women from the oppressive gender hierarchy itself is going to satisfy me, but I acknowledge we’re not going to achieve that through legislation.
