What are some feminist sites that has become ghost sites?
This must not be allowed to happen to MN.
The humor, the crude language, the feminism...if that is stifled, it will just turn into Nethuns!

PermissionToSpeakSir · 07/05/2018 12:28

It is so depressing when a forum goes tumbleweed.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 07/05/2018 12:31

I think there is still some kind of thinking with @MNHQ that this issue will go away. It won't. MN moderation policies might well drive the feminists away and I agree that if that's the case, the TRAs will take over the entire site and all language regarding females will be policed heavily by them.

But eventually this is going to go mainstream and the general public will do a massive WTF.

They still seem to think that they're dealing with mostly reasonable people with reasonable objections, with just a few maybe going a bit overboard, and that a compromise with the reasonable people can be found. When in fact reasonable trans people were never the problem in the first place.

Amalfimamma · 07/05/2018 12:42

When in fact reasonable trans people were never the problem in the first place.
This 10000 times over

LaSqrrl · 07/05/2018 12:46

What are some feminist sites that has become ghost sites?

F-Word (rebranded by us as the T-Word) springs to mind.
Twisty's blog, whatever that was called.
Feministe, which was lite-weight anyway
There were a number of libfem blogs, which I never frequented.
Now that I think of it, probably loads, because I never did hang out at the libfem sites. Of course, all the libfem sites caved. Bigtime.

Someone with a better memory could probably list many of them.

AAK: They still seem to think that they're dealing with mostly reasonable people with reasonable objections, with just a few maybe going a bit overboard, and that a compromise with the reasonable people can be found. When in fact reasonable trans people were never the problem in the first place.

Yep! Classic error, underestimating one side.

Parentsnet, then.

I hope MNHQ become aware of how many sites turned into thumbleweed becauser trans activists took over.

OrchidInTheSun · 07/05/2018 13:13

It's not just other sites, it's groups too. I've seen it happen in libfem groups on FB because they are all inclusive and the trans voices talk over and over again about how excluded they feel by talk of things that affect women and eventually the women just stop talking.

Incidentally, I'm not sure if people are aware but there MN is also being targeted by the instagram mums who aren't happy with some of the frank conversations that go on here about the opacity around product placement and the ethics around shilling your kids.

Poor MNHQ is getting attacked from lots of different directions!

Howyoualldoworkme · 07/05/2018 13:36

They've started on Gransnet now

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 07/05/2018 13:41

how what? On twitter

Howyoualldoworkme · 07/05/2018 13:52

On Squirrels thread over there. They're all gullible grannies and we are mean and should pop off back here.

Howyoualldoworkme · 07/05/2018 13:57

Bit rude, I'm a Gullible Granny too Grin

Greymisty · 07/05/2018 14:15

I think HQ said its not just the criticism from TRA but how the debate on here is perceived by others outside of GC feminism and TRAs. As other pps on threads have concluded always remember the lurkers and now its also always remember your comment may be screenshot out of context and read on Twitter.

How have they started on Gransnet? Bring the nanas over here more the merrier Grin

OnTheList · 07/05/2018 14:27

The thing about lurkers is though, that so many ex-lurkers have joined mainly/solely because of the gender critical debate, and new members each day thank the regulars on FWR for opening their eyes. The few lurkers who join to criticize are usually TRAs, and show themselves as such fairly quickly. Some MN members have an issue with how 'rude' people are in this debate, but feminists are surely used to that accusation? Anything less than total capitulation to males is regarded as rude and aggressive.

spontaneousgiventime · 07/05/2018 15:10

I am a gran and have just joined GN and posted. I'm heartened that many of the grans there fully understand the issues we discuss here and are talking about it.

Power to grans Grin

Greymisty · 07/05/2018 15:42

Agree that women/pps not being socialised and gendered Miss Pleasent Delightful will get accused of being rude which is why the GC feminism viewpoint is so hard for others to hear and swallow.

Which subject is the gransnet thread under? All I could find was a delightful and pleasant thread of gransnetters trying their best to use preferred pronouns and titles. I should go back to reading gransnet its gentle, but it does make me pine for my long gone nana. You mumsnetters have corrupted me Grin

spontaneousgiventime · 07/05/2018 15:47

Gransnet

ErrolTheDragon · 07/05/2018 15:48

I am a gran and have just joined GN and posted.

I'm not a gran, but well into my 50s, wondering if I might find an extra set of interesting topics there? (I seem to be just FWR and gardening here at the mo). One question- do you know if the petition has been linked to on there?

spontaneousgiventime · 07/05/2018 15:50

ErrolTheDragon Yes it has. I don't think I will post there much, I like the robust debate here. GN seems to be a much more gentle place. Just my thoughts though but I can't see the debates we have here happening there.

Greymisty · 07/05/2018 15:55

Why do gransnetters usually disapprove of mumsnetters? I read both sites for ages before joining MN.

Errol i think gransnet is less busy than mumsnet, it has topics like grandparenting etc as well as the usual chat and gardening....think it has a style and beauty to. I do love reading it... I should add I'm not their target audience however Smile

Greymisty · 07/05/2018 15:57

spontaneous 's summary is accurate I think...it's very gentle. Think of it as a toodle down a nice country lane vs mumsnet which is like walking down a busy high st.

spontaneousgiventime · 07/05/2018 16:00

Why do gransnetters usually disapprove of mumsnetters?

I genuinely don't know. I've read it off and on for a while. Yes we are grans but we are mums too. Perhaps it's just that things have moved on and mums today have a different life than they/I had when my children were small. I actually feel sorry for mums today, my baby/toddler parenting time seems easier than today. I had a traditional marriage in many ways and didn't have the pressure to to work outside the home. Life for mums seems much tougher now.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/05/2018 16:03

Thanks. Maybe a good place for holiday suggestions when you get to saga lout age?

AngryAttackKittens · 07/05/2018 16:04

Maybe it's all the MIL threads...
