Ive done a little browsing in the feminism section and i admit its intriguing, please forgive my ignorance as i dont know alot about this all.

I just want to start by saying i was raised to respect everyone and i truly do, my view on equality is simply if some one, man or woman is good enough to do the specific job they aspire for then they have every right to get said job/goal, again if this is slight ignorance forgive me, i post this topic because i would like to learn and be less ignorant, love me some knowledge.. :)

So i suppose my question is broad and depends on the individual person's view, but what is the over reaching/ultimate goal of feminism ? or what does it mean to you personally ? and please, dont think im trolling or anything i genuinely want to learn a thing or two, thanks :)

Do you have a female partner?

spontaneousgiventime · 03/05/2018 16:37

If you are here for genuine reasons then you will be welcome and we will answer your questions.

If you are here for nefarious reasons, you will meet the 'nest of vipers'.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 03/05/2018 16:40

Im finding spontaneous quite scary at the moment

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 03/05/2018 16:40

Have you spent any time reading the hundreds of threads here before asking your question? It's good netiquette to do a bit of research before asking people to give their time to write individual responses to you.

Collidascope · 03/05/2018 16:40

I want a world where we don't just buy dolls and toy kitchens for little girls (reinforcing that care work is their job) and save the Lego and meccano for boys (which develops spacial awareness etc and gets boys into stem). I'd also like for men to stop committing such vast levels of crime, espexiallh the violent kind. I'd like women's CVs to not be treated as inferior when they apply for a job just because it has a woman's name at the top (studies have shown this is still the case). I'd like more paternity leave for men so that women don't get landed with all the childcare. God, I could go on for ever, but that's the start.

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 03/05/2018 16:41

Thats fair spontaneous, no i am honestly curious like i say, i love to learn more about things i dont know much on.. :)

Rufustheyawningreindeer I'm a teddy bear really - hear me roar lol.

To me, feminism’s job will be done when women have equality with men. This is not necessarily the same as parity - men cannot have babies and are not discriminated against because of this. I want women not to lose their jobs because they got pregnant, I want more research into the female body because the world we live in is designed for men (see car crash dummies as a particularly horrifying example. I don’t want women to be shat on from a great height in the workplace, still earning less than men decades after the equal pay act. I don’t want birth injuries to be “just something you put up with”, I don’t want these injuries and others to be patched back together with the equivalent of chicken wire. I don’t want 2 women a week to be killed by their male partner. I don’t women to bear the brunt of caring responsibilities, for babies and elderly parents.

There are lots of things which I personally feel are my feminism’s goal. Other women will disagree, or pull in a different direction. Feminism isn’t an exclusive club. It’s for all women, and as we are all different there is no single answer to your question. What do you think feminism’s goals are?

SmashedMug · 03/05/2018 16:49

EDUCATE ME, WOMEN, FOR I AM MAN.

LangCleg · 03/05/2018 16:51

EDUCATE ME, WOMEN, FOR I AM MAN.

I had a nice cup of tea going there. Now it's all down my chin.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 03/05/2018 16:52

@PleaseCustomizeCharacter no offense but feminists are not responsible for educating men.
You said you like to read books? medium.com/@Dissident/the-list-of-books-men-must-read-before-messaging-me-about-feminism-3894594bf311

thefirstmrsdewinter · 03/05/2018 16:52

Ah, x post. Smile

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 03/05/2018 16:53

Badgerthebodger like i say, my extreme lack of knowledge will show here, i always thought in its simplest form feminism was essentially equal rights, ive read some of the differences between the sex's and its a fair goal, in my simple understanding now obviously men will never give birth, at least by todays scientific standards lol.

I guess after reading through a few topics on this board i just want to educate myself in the subject a bit more.

How about not expecting to sit back and demand women explain things to you?

What do you think feminism is about or should be about? Why should anyone here waste their time explaining basic things to you, for your entertainment?

Truscum · 03/05/2018 16:55

Hello, I lurked in this topic for a long time before I posted and that helped me understand a lot more than I did before. Rushed post (as I’m supposed to be working Grin)

A lot more needs to happen before women have more than the current veneer of equality. A lot of things need to be eradicated.

Two women a week not being murdered by the partners in the UK would be a good start. Obviously women are being murdered all over the world but in a country where many seem to think feminism isn’t needed that’s an unacceptable figure isn’t it?

Women being seen as less valuable humans than men or treated as property i.e. the murder of female babies, honour killings, the pay gap, FGM. Also the appalling amount of rapes that’s are being unreported because of the abominable treatment if rape victims by law enforcement and society in general.

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 03/05/2018 16:55

thefirstmrsdewinter ahh see this is what i didnt want people to think of me personally, sure your point is true its not i just wanted to communicate first hand with people about it rather than say, google define it.

Thanks lang, your spilled tea reminded me I’ve a cup sitting going cold. Brew

rememberthetime · 03/05/2018 16:58

There are websites, books, you tube videos and studies that will teach you everything you need to know about feminism.

I know that there is nothing better than hearing it from the horses mouth, but you need to put in the hard work too.

But you remind me of my son who, (when he was 12) said to me "so, Mum, what's this feminism thing you keep going on about." We've been having the conversation every since and he is now an educated 18 year old who is a critical thinker.

there's nothing wrong with asking the question, just don't expect to be spoon fed. You're probably older than 12 so you should do a little homework too.

Elendon · 03/05/2018 16:58

Obviously you have an internet search thingy or you would not have come to these threads OP.

Hi!

We are all human beings, human being the default.

Ask yourself this question what is the difference between male humans and female humans?

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 03/05/2018 17:01

remeberthetime Again yes, fair point, i really didnt intend to come across as lazy per se so i apologise if i have, im 25 and i guess i just wanted to be one less ignorant guy and understand more. Smile

Please - get out now dude, in the nicest possible way. You've gone about this in the worst possible way - inadvertently, I'm sure. Send me a private thingy if you want to discuss. But this will only end badly :-)

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 03/05/2018 17:06

Uhhh, ok fair enough, i honestly didnt want to annoy anyone, i just wanted to learn a bit more, so sorry. Sad

What is the ultimate goal of feminism?

Equal status and equality of opportunity for men and women (obviously equality of opportunity needs to actually refer to biological sex differences but ‘women are just more caring’ or ‘ladybrain’ etc are not biological sex differences). It is called feminism because women have lower status and fewer opportunities as a result of how society is structured.

The structure of society needs to be radically altered in many different areas to achieve this.

This is essentially a liberty issue. If liberty is a pie feminism seeks half the liberty pie for men and half for women.

How that should be achieved is where the majority of the debate happens.
