Ive done a little browsing in the feminism section and i admit its intriguing, please forgive my ignorance as i dont know alot about this all.

I just want to start by saying i was raised to respect everyone and i truly do, my view on equality is simply if some one, man or woman is good enough to do the specific job they aspire for then they have every right to get said job/goal, again if this is slight ignorance forgive me, i post this topic because i would like to learn and be less ignorant, love me some knowledge.. :)

So i suppose my question is broad and depends on the individual person's view, but what is the over reaching/ultimate goal of feminism ? or what does it mean to you personally ? and please, dont think im trolling or anything i genuinely want to learn a thing or two, thanks :)

I have no issue discussing BTW but many feminists legitimately resent this as another aspect of work that women are being required to do for men (I don’t disagree with this either). That’s why people are feeling irritated. People are responding in an irritated manner because another expectation is for women to be nice to men.

SunsetBeetch thank you ill have a read, and again it wasnt my intention to annoy anyone so if I came across wrong sorry

So what you've learnt is that, as a man, you expect women to educate you and to be able to demand their time and effort. Hopefully you'll be able to reflect on that, and follow some of the links that people here have given you.

TheSecretMole · 03/05/2018 17:14

I would advise the same as previous posters - do some reading around the subject, lurk on threads here

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 03/05/2018 17:14

Noooooo, i wasnt like expecting anything i just wanted to say hi, learn a little and understand more.

Like someone else said ive obviously gone about it the wrong way accedntally and it truly wasnt my intention to annoy anyone.

Ooh, this is great! I'm off to start reading.

This is a very good book, op. It shows how the inequality is more than about laws. It's sewn into our very culture.

picklemepopcorn · 03/05/2018 17:17

I was unaware until recently, just how much boys and girls are socialised differently, held to different standards, treated differently. I am happy in a fairly traditional marriage, so hadn't realised how hard it is to break out of that mould for women.

The most obvious thing I see is the commodification of women and their bodies.

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 03/05/2018 17:24

picklemepopcorn truly this is my opinion too, unawareness of it all, hence i just wanted to hear from you all rather that anonymous google searches.

I just find real people more reliable than what could be faked on the internet

Best way to learn is to sit quietly for a while and listen. When there are bits you don't understand google around the issue and think about what you discover. If that raises more questions for you, do more reading and more thinking.
Feminism isn't a monolith - all sorts of ideas, beliefs and motivations are included under the feminism umbrella. Often, they conflict with one another... Thinking for yourself is essential.

grasspigeons · 03/05/2018 17:32

I believe women as a class have suffered oppression on account of their biology and I would like that to end

AssassinatedBeauty · 03/05/2018 17:35

I can't tell if you're being serious... but you are aware that the people here are "on the Internet" and are as reliable or unreliable as any other source?

And, are you genuinely saying you can't tell what is a reliable source of information, or that you can't spot bias? Maybe you'd be better off with books from a library rather than being loose on the Internet.

CAAKE · 03/05/2018 17:36

Hi OP. It's all about the "gendered shitwork" as @glosswitch so eloquently describes here in this epic Twitter thread -

I believe it is instringently linked to religion. Humans used to worship Mother Earth, religion kicked in and so it became the Father.

BesmirchingMotherhood · 03/05/2018 17:39

I’m faked on the internet.

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 03/05/2018 17:44

ooooooh ..... how meta....

PleaseCustomizeCharacter · 03/05/2018 17:45

Im not saying there arnt genuine articles all over the internet in fact knowing the internet im sure i could find millions of them, but realistically not everything on the internet can be 100% trusted is all i mean and even on this site, i may be labeled a troll, yes and anyone that comments on anything here can also troll me as such.

OP posts:
WorkingItOutAsIGo · 03/05/2018 17:48

I am noticing that you haven’t yet bothered to say thank you to any of the people who have given you some resources to read. Stop justifying yourself and start being polite!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 03/05/2018 17:49

Nor are you picking up on what they are saying, reflecting it back and showing you have learnt from it.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 03/05/2018 17:49

Those are both good conversational skills to practice.

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 03/05/2018 17:50

Well, that's where you need to dust off your GCSE history and consider your sources isn't it.
