NUS Conference breaks down after the UK Border Force Arrive

The following is made up from tweets from the #NUStrans18 conference which seems to have gone slightly awry after the gender neutral toilet signs were removed. They'd been stuck up the day before, converting the women's bathroom to the gender neutral bathroom, so that they'd have 'men's toilets' and 'non-men's toilets.'
Thing's started innocently enough

Some bright spark at the hotel scheduled a simultaneous conference for the UK Border Patrol and that's when things started to heat up

"The gender neutral signs at #NUStrans18 have dissapeared entirely, I'm blaming the border force, in the meantime I have awkwardly trudged into the womens toilet that used to be gender neutral. Cue enby screaming"

"#NUStrans18 is one of the few places we feel relatively safe but now here we are on edge because UK Brdr F*rce are here."

They decided to take matters into their own hands

She started saying ‘what about our toilets’ to which we informed her that the gender neutral toilets are for everyone, and if she was uncomfortable she could use the women’s upstairs
She starts shouting ‘one at a time! Respect my authority! We’re here for longer than you!’"

Then identity politic work battles begin.

I'm sorry if people find this reporting offensive because they're young and vulnerable youth but might I remind you that these students represent our future elites. In 20 years time they'll be writing our laws. Also, it's f%cking hilarious. See, this tweet they're pretty succinct

The NUS Needs to have a word with itself. If these students are vulnerable and this explains their behaviour then should they really be voting on issues which affect the entire student body? Are they being used as pawns in someone else's agenda?

adly, the UK Border Force Agency doesn't appear to have a twitter account.

I guess they're mostly overworked grownups with real problems to address?

I was wondering if that 'leaves' at the end of the first tweet referred to their meal or their departure.

The twitter hashtag for this is truly hilarious. It's like a Monty Python sketch.

Reading between the lines I'm guessing the UK Border people also holding an event there were annoyed (quite rightly) that they removed the women's bathrooms and argued the toss with some of the students. Which of course is #literalviolence.

I'm sitting in my terace laughing my fucking socks off. Can we get Mike Leigh to turn it into a sitcom?

Glad to see they are still as irrelevant and self serving as they were when I was at uni 20 years ago.

Maybe if they perhaps focused their efforts on things that actually affect the vast majority of their members such as tuition fees, quality of teaching, cost of transport, cost of accommodation, quality on campus facilities etc people would stop laughing at them.

Pretty sure they've managed to peak the entire hotel staff and the UK Border delegates all in one go.

They can't make men's loos 'gender neutral' if they have urinals, because their presence makes it unavoidably clear that loos are segregated by sex. Sanitary bins and tampon dispensers are easier to ignore (especially by anyone with no use for them).

I say it’ll take a couple of months of not wanting to look in anyway racist warring with their narcissistic desire to be the most oppressed people on the planet, deserving of all the special treatment (and all the PayPal money grabbing)

Oh look it’s happening already. If they shunt them off to a different conference then they won’t get their special day all about them ruined by other people expecting respect and stuff

I’ve recently decided that whenever I’m asked to speak at an event I will first suggest they instead try to find a trans woman who is BME, Disabled or Bisexual. If not I’ll happily speak but the reality is I can’t adequately speak to the oppression of all trans women.

This is very silly I know but is anyone else reading @nus_trans as "anus trans"? Someone missed that when they opened the account..

Also...LM can’t speak to the oppression of all trans women, I assume because they don’t actually have any experience of being black, disabled or Bi. Shame that hasn’t stopped them appropriating women’s political positions isn’t it?

Also why would they ask them to find a disabled trans woman? I though that LM ‘identified’ as autistic, ‘schitzo’ (sorry about that word, but that was what LM write on their twitter profile) and disabled a couple of weeks ago?
