Dear MNHQ

I'm very grateful for the commitment to free speech you've publicly taken, and for Justine's courage this week.

A former disgruntled employee of MN is writing on Twitter about the 'transphobia' of MN staff, and calling you TERFs. She is showing a great deal of bias and intolerance towards women with feminist views, this may well be her honest opinion, which is no big deal I suppose, since she is no longer an employee.

At least, it isn't an issue until she calls a shout out to her
'friends who still work at MN' to report and take down posts by 'transphobic scum', by which she appears to be referring to any poster objecting to being called TERF by her friend.

Regardless of the personal views of the MNHQ staff, who should be as free to hold their own views as I am mine, I am disturbed that there may be a small contingent of employees who are invested in unfair moderation and will not be applying fair-handed principles, at least if the claims of this ex-employee are credible.

Can you please give posters some reassurance that the difficult job of fair-handed moderation isn't being abused by the 'friends' of ex-employees who are 'reporting it all' and taking down posts because any gender criticism means the poster is 'transphobic scum'?

Thank you.

Let's keep our standards up!

Very important, that.

If I was still in my previous role equivalent at mnhq I’d be shitting myself quite frankly.

Why so?

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 18/04/2018 18:37

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem may be that it's 'publicly'...

Well it’s making me look a real dick then, isn’t it? Smile Wink

@MNHQ appreciate this is all very sudden, but can you confirm that you will involve the police? Considering someone has maliciously and intentionally breached data and may be storing more data of a private and sensitive nature?

This is my feeling. I want MN to be in control of this - but also need reassurance they are involving the police.

of course bumble. like every reputable organisation, HQ will report itself when its systems fail or are found to be flawed.
it's a nodramaobama type thing to do.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 18/04/2018 18:39

I wonder what the MNHQ employee training re data involves and if it was upped after Jeffrey?

Greymisty · 18/04/2018 18:40

Only on mumsnet would there be a thread on a serious breach of data and posters still keeping tabs on each others spelling Grin

She has behaved in a reckless and stupid way. I think calling someone a 'stupid little girl' on the feminism board is rather ironic.

True. Apologies. I hate it myself. Wasnt thinking.

Thanksforthatamazingpost · 18/04/2018 18:41

not to mention that small question of an apostrophe Greymisty....

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 18/04/2018 18:42

What the fuck else has she got in terms of user data that she's not shared about yet?

I think this is an interesting question and one that will be very hard to provide an answer for.

She might have shared some things publicly on twitter but what else being shared behind the scenes? 6 months worth of data?
What about the friends she is claiming to have on the inside? That feels like quite the threat.

kalapattar · 18/04/2018 18:42

Why so

I suppose that if you run a large chat forum, you have to be aware that some people you employ may have issues with some of the comments people make. You can imagine some of the activists out there.

People have their email addresses, names and lots of other personal details that people happily give to MNHQ. You can see how access to such details needs to be controlled if you have an activist in there.

I am surprised that someone at MNHQ didn't realise there could be an issue as Emma seems to have discussed her concerns over what she saw as transphobic posters at MNHQ, her concerns were dismissed and she still had access to a lot of user details. It's not hard to see that someone could easily get access to them and misuse them.

Greymisty · 18/04/2018 18:42

Thanksforthat I beg for your forgiveness here Flowers

Please dont call the grammar police Grin

I hope that mumsnet continues to employ lots of people who are supportive of the trans rights agenda.
I don't want the mods to agree with me on everything, I just want them to understand the principles of free speech and obeying the law.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 18/04/2018 18:45

Leave my phone out of this.

OMG! Shock apologies, this is such a bombshell that I’m posting without RTentireFT...

It might be a silly question (apologies if it’s teaching to suck eggs!) @JustineMumsnet, but do you have access to her old work email still, so you can check if she sent the screenshots to herself from that? Might give an idea of any other protected info she has - so you can know for sure if she has a list of emails or whatever?

Thanksforthatamazingpost · 18/04/2018 18:47
