Dear MNHQ

I'm very grateful for the commitment to free speech you've publicly taken, and for Justine's courage this week.

A former disgruntled employee of MN is writing on Twitter about the 'transphobia' of MN staff, and calling you TERFs. She is showing a great deal of bias and intolerance towards women with feminist views, this may well be her honest opinion, which is no big deal I suppose, since she is no longer an employee.

At least, it isn't an issue until she calls a shout out to her
'friends who still work at MN' to report and take down posts by 'transphobic scum', by which she appears to be referring to any poster objecting to being called TERF by her friend.

Regardless of the personal views of the MNHQ staff, who should be as free to hold their own views as I am mine, I am disturbed that there may be a small contingent of employees who are invested in unfair moderation and will not be applying fair-handed principles, at least if the claims of this ex-employee are credible.

Can you please give posters some reassurance that the difficult job of fair-handed moderation isn't being abused by the 'friends' of ex-employees who are 'reporting it all' and taking down posts because any gender criticism means the poster is 'transphobic scum'?

Thank you.

Has anyone dialled 101 and logged it? GrinGrin

NauticalDisaster · 18/04/2018 18:49

If I were a member of the organisation where she now apparently works then I would definitely be contacting them to ensure my data was safe. I am not though so have no reason to contact them.

I like how TRA are turning this around to say she has been doxxed (with publicly available data!) when it was in fact EH who posted identifiable data she took from a previous employer and posted it on twitter. Nice turnaround there.

Thanksforthatamazingpost · 18/04/2018 18:49

... might she have radical views about real ale as well?

OnionKnight · 18/04/2018 18:49

Have MNHQ responded to this properly apart from patting us on the head?

thebewilderness · 18/04/2018 18:50

Clearly Emma doxxed herself and that is the MN Feminists fault.

FeministBadger · 18/04/2018 18:51

Classic DARVO innit?

birdbandit · 18/04/2018 18:51

Oh dear, is the #nodebate?

What's the ex-mods plan? to freelance as the thought police? To expose the women who huddle together on the internet to talk about their worries, because what she deems to be thought "crime" cannot be tolerated?

I do not see hatred here, I don't see rape threats, or death threats or abuse. I very rarely see anything other than "naice" debate. I don't see thread full of misgendering or doxing. I don't understand how anyone can read what is here, can think that this is a quagmire of hatred. It is bizarre.

Why are we being lied about, maligned? What power do our detractors think we have?

Thanksforthatamazingpost · 18/04/2018 18:51

I've been meaning to ask this for a while.

What is -Gazza- doxxing?

RedToothBrush · 18/04/2018 18:51

I hope that mumsnet continues to employ lots of people who are supportive of the trans rights agenda.
I don't want the mods to agree with me on everything, I just want them to understand the principles of free speech and obeying the law.

This

The problem comes when someone mixes their personal political beliefs with their employment. Most of us couldn't. Its naive to try unless you work in an area where that's your actual job to do.

And even then the problem is when someone takes it a step further. I am assuming that she signed some sort of contract which would include some sort of confidentiality clause.

And actually I suspect that is where she is legally most at risk rather than under the DPA.

Thanksforthatamazingpost · 18/04/2018 18:51

also, why can't I do strikethrough?

Mumsnut · 18/04/2018 18:51

Same approach they took to Miranda Yardley tweeting info that a mother had herself stuck on the internet

Mumsnut · 18/04/2018 18:52

Who's going to employ a TRA now though? (Well, maybe the Labour Party)

colleysmill · 18/04/2018 18:52

@NauticalDisaster first qu i asked dh when he walked through the door was "how do we pay our subs?"

Elendon · 18/04/2018 18:53

Be of no doubt these people should be out knocking on doors and spreading the word to elect good local people - they are lazy arses who couldn't be bothered to get off the sofa to post a leaflet through the door.

This election will be an interesting result.

If you are dissatisfied with your party then vote NONE.

Let's give the Lilies of this world something to muse over, other than looking pretty.

Mumsnut · 18/04/2018 18:53

Thus moves fast ! First post was to Nautical

kalapattar · 18/04/2018 18:54

What can you do with someone's IP address?

Mumsnut · 18/04/2018 18:55

The Friday roundup should be fun

thebewilderness · 18/04/2018 18:55

Details they share in their posts plus IP that brings you within a mil of where they live?

gingergenius · 18/04/2018 18:56

Oh dear. Someone's just made themselves unemployable!!

womanformallyknownaswoman · 18/04/2018 18:56

Someone doxx the secret strikethru combo

thebewilderness · 18/04/2018 18:57

This may be how they tracked the woman they harassed at the Union Picket Line.

C8H10N4O2 · 18/04/2018 18:58

And actually I suspect that is where she is legally most at risk rather than under the DPA

Breach of contract is civil unless it overlaps with criminal law.

DPA includes a range of criminal offences.

RedToothBrush · 18/04/2018 18:58

This has caused reputational damage to MN by breaching trust. Emma might want to reflect on the implications of that to her.

Elendon · 18/04/2018 18:58

Trust me Mumsnut there are TRAs in all parties. Infiltration is their thing which is why they are here now.

It's not just Bromentum, but silly men in silly hats who get voted onto councils and will do anything to stay there. Want to vote for the far right wing in this country?

Why is politics so polarised now? Who started it? Why men did!

kalapattar · 18/04/2018 19:00

I'm aware of quite a few breaches on the ICO website - but I don't think I've ever seen a disgruntled intern releasing the personal details of posters on a chat forum who they disagreed with.

I wonder how many other chat forums have similar potential issues?

I wonder what Reddit admins can see?
