I'm too tired to comment sensibly.

I'd like to remind everyone re: no personal attacks and use of preferred pronouns (or avoidance thereof) when discussing a named individual please.

I'll be waiting in anticipation for the answer to this question. What is a woman? The question has been asked many times.

NoSquirrels · 18/04/2018 01:27

Well, I for one am interested in the answers to “What Makes A Woman”, cos I’ve been thinking about it a lot and my lady brain has no answers - disappointingly.

(Or rather my lady brain says my womanhood is “made” by biology - but it’s willing to learn and be educated if that’s not the right answer.)

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 18/04/2018 01:29

I cannot even...

LightofaSilveryMoon · 18/04/2018 01:32

An examination of womanhood?

MB has had male socialisation.

Is that acceptable to point out? I make no value judgement, one way or the other. Just making a factual comment.

TheXXFactor · 18/04/2018 01:35

I am confident that this will peaktrans a lot of viewers Wink

TotallyLibrarianPoo · 18/04/2018 01:49

Ok, sincere question here. Is this show about what makes a biological male a woman (the journey, transitioning) or is this about what actually makes a woman a woman?

If it's the second, that's bloody confusing as each woman can be very different from another woman. There is one thing that all women have in common. xx

Mamaryllis · 18/04/2018 01:59

I doubt that Munroe is going to expose the actual process and activities that male bodied people use in an attempt to pass as female bodied. (I'm not talking about GRS, more imagining the sessions upon sessions of laser treatment, the having to buy special make up so that your five o clock shadow doesn't show through, the wigs because growing hair takes time and male pattern baldness is an issue, the tricks to hide your Adam's apple, the lessons in voice feminisation and learning how to walk, the bodily changes ...) I think Munroe would find that kind of thing a bit invasive (and Munroe wouldn't want any overly masculine stuff on national tv). So I'm guessing fashion and a lot of soft focus and brave and specialness. Less biology and more gender stereotypes. Maybe a few kittens.

Can we petition channel4 to commission peachyoghurt to make the same documentary please?

thebewilderness · 18/04/2018 02:11

8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.

Wombman · 18/04/2018 02:24

Being assigned female at birth makes a woman, given 18 years.

nooka · 18/04/2018 02:43

I find that a completely meaningless expression, as if sex was some arbitrary thing that can be imposed by way of judgement instead of a core part of every human, determined from the point of conception.

Bizarre that Channel 4 decided to commission a show about (apparently) 50% of the world population and have it fronted by someone from the other 50%. But maybe I'm wrong and it will be an interesting piece on the social and medical aspects of transition.

TinyRick · 18/04/2018 03:25

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

Wombman · 18/04/2018 03:40

I was being ironic

TheDogAndDogAtCrutchley · 18/04/2018 04:26

Fucking hell.

merrymouse · 18/04/2018 06:23

With no unformation except the programme title, I think we have to keep an open mind.

merrymouse · 18/04/2018 06:24

Information!

SwearyG · 18/04/2018 06:32

Munroe who tells us we’re doing feminism wrong?
Munroe who tells us that talking about our reproductive systems is wrong?
Munroe who tells us our pussy hats are wrong?

I think I’d actually like to know what Munroe thinks makes a woman. Can someone else watch it though because I’ll probably break the TV and I can’t justify the expense of a new one.

I wonder how they’ll edit the women who have agreed to be on the programme...

merrymouse · 18/04/2018 06:41

It’s not even on the production company’s website yet. It could be a documentary about being a trans woman.

Trumpdump · 18/04/2018 06:43

MB has a history of being a bit clumsy with language and jokes... not sure they're the best person to host this kind of show.

SwearyG · 18/04/2018 06:44

Do you really think that’s likely, merrymouse ?

I mean, it could be about being a TW but Munroe says it’s called “What Makes A Woman” and it’s being aired on Channel 4 who are generally on the TWAW side of things.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 18/04/2018 06:51

If I had wild guess I would say heels and lipstick.

What else?

Hmm
TheBitterBoy · 18/04/2018 06:54

The debate program as part of that season looks like it could either be interesting or a car crash, depending upon who is invited / allowed to speak

ANameforToday · 18/04/2018 06:57

Pretty dresses Chardonnay?

ANameforToday · 18/04/2018 06:59

If it's about Munroe's transition then fine, although maybe they could have found someone with less offensive views who is transitioning instead. I guess they wouldn't be Channel 4 then though?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 18/04/2018 07:00

Oh silly little me forgot!

I will make sure I watch the programme so I know.
