By which I mean continued protection of women/girl-only spaces (physical spaces, services, organisations, stats, programmes) on a sex-not-gender basis.

I would.

Because nearly everything else follows from maintaining that distinction.

Fucking hell -that tweet about Maria's case is unbelievable Angry

AncientLights · 13/04/2018 19:48

Not on Twitter now: been banished. Can you copy & paste Tweet about Maria please?

busyboysmum · 13/04/2018 23:58

Get back on under a different email address. We need all the GC allies we can get on there.

AncientLights · 14/04/2018 00:00

May do after a breather: Twitter is like swimming in a cess pit.

busyboysmum · 14/04/2018 00:18

I know. I get dragged in. But it's the easiest way to speak directly to politicians.

Popchyk · 14/04/2018 10:30

WEP Lambeth's tweet about Maria's case:

twitter.com/wildlx/status/985067808705916928

"We liked a tweet from sisters uncut, about showing solidarity. We’ve had nothing to do with the case. We fully support trans women"

Pretty clear where their sympathies lie.

Pratchet · 14/04/2018 10:35

Sophie's chance to come of the fence but she won't.

Pratchet · 14/04/2018 10:36

She could lose her own party over this

0phelia · 14/04/2018 10:42

Subtext "we fully support transwomen even when they are violent towards women"
The mind boggles.

Popchyk · 14/04/2018 10:45

"We fully support trans women". But not actual women.

Pretty clear where they are on this.

They are not sitting on the fence at all.

AnitaLovesVictor · 14/04/2018 10:50

"We fully support transwomen" = a transwoman can do no wrong?

Surely supporting transwomen doesn't mean excusing assault against a woman like this.

Popchyk · 14/04/2018 11:07

They also retweeted this about the mumsnet Man Friday pair.

"What the stunt from a couple of anti-trans activist has done:

  1. Trivialised the experiences of trans men, many of whom avoid going swimming pre-surgery because of the levels of their dysphoria...."
Melamin · 14/04/2018 11:34

Man Friday is about getting heard.

If women were heard, and not shut down there would be no need to go out and do things on Man Friday. We could all get on with being women in our own way.

Noqonterf · 14/04/2018 17:11

Actually I've changed my mind. I absolutely wouldn't vote them. They're not about women at all.

SwearyG · 14/04/2018 17:33

I hadn’t seen their retweet on ManFriday. That’s the final nail in their coffin. Melamin is entirely correct. If we were listened to when we ask questions/express concerns we wouldn’t have to do things like ManFriday. The WEP can go fuck themselves.

Incidentally DH interviewed for a senior position at WEP a couple of years back. Not only did they offer half the going rate for the role (great for a party who claims to support closing the pay gap) but they have never let him know that they didn’t want to progress with him. Rude.

Italiangreyhound · 14/04/2018 17:56

Agree with LangCleg

"Very possibly. I'd need a clear, manifesto-led commitment to no self-ID GRA amendment, clarification and strengthening of EqA sex exemptions, and the Nordic model. Also something about redressing the impact austerity has had on low income women.

Then I would join"

But no changing policy once women back them.

Would rather vote for a mainstream party that recognizes females.

Why aren't we starting a protest party! The party party! Anti-brexit, pro safe spaces for all.

LadyGrey18 · 15/04/2018 14:24

Even after everything else I've read about WEP, I'm Shock by that tweet in support of Maria's attacker. The party's website still lists one of its objectives as to end violence against women www.womensequality.org.uk/objectives - How can they claim that now?

And yes, in a situation where a (natal) woman has been assaulted and is having to go through what must have been a very difficult court case, their statement is solely that they fully support transwomen - I think that's a pretty clear statement that they are not going to support (natal) women.

dorade · 15/04/2018 19:05

Yes I would rejoin.

Wonder how alluring a thousand people promising to join would be to them?

Surfandterf · 15/04/2018 20:48

I wouldn't vote for them. I don't think they seem reliable enough to do the right thing, they've thrown women under bus too many times now.

hipsterfun · 16/04/2018 00:28

I’ve gone from ‘Maybe’ to ‘No’.
