By which I mean continued protection of women/girl-only spaces (physical spaces, services, organisations, stats, programmes) on a sex-not-gender basis.

I would.

Because nearly everything else follows from maintaining that distinction.

Excellent points, mirialis.

And, on a personal level, I’m sorry you find yourself in that situation Flowers

LizzieSiddal · 09/04/2018 16:10

I was going to join but didn’t because of their stance on this issue.
I would jump at the chance to join if they changed, but I would like Gender Critical women involved in every aspect of their manifesto/decision making.

EasterRobin · 09/04/2018 16:22

Yes. I joined previously but left as I felt they weren't representing women well on this matter. Trans people deserve dignity, respect and freedom; and this should be built alongside (not erode) the dignity, respect and freedom for women.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 09/04/2018 16:25

This. ^^

rowdywoman1 · 09/04/2018 16:35

Can't believe I'm saying this about a supposedly democratic party but.... they would need to accept that gender critical views about self ID and women's rights are legitimate and allowed to be spoken about openly and respectfully debated.

And they would need to find a way of atoning for their shocking treatment of Heather BE. I listened to the Moral Maze and the idea that her contribution was in any inappropriate is offensive in a democratic society.

However, I'm sceptical they'll be able to do it.

SporadicSpartacus · 09/04/2018 16:39

I would. I’ve never been a member of any party before, but I would join (and loudly promote) WEP if they took this stance.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/04/2018 17:11

Yes.

busyboysmum · 09/04/2018 17:13

Yes.

ePurSiMuove · 09/04/2018 17:26

I may renew my membership if so.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 09/04/2018 17:33

No.

They are called the Women's Equality Party and they championed a policy that massively negatively affects women. That's like the Green Party randomly deciding to back coal-fired power stations. Or Labour announcing they are banning trades unions.

If they can't even notice that a major policy affects their single central reason for being then they are too dumb, lazy or just uncaring virtue-signallers to get my vote.

They'd have to have a major clear out of leadership.

In any case I think WEP should be a pressure group not a political party.

DontCisgenderMe · 09/04/2018 18:06

Yes, I would seriously consider it. I've left the Labour party and am now politically homeless.

But, as others have said, their performance to date does not exactly fill me with confidence and I would need to see this set in stone first. I do also think that they might have more success as a pressure group rather than a political party.

BlytheByName · 09/04/2018 18:41

Not WITHOUT self id assurances. Out of all the political parties the WEP should have had our backs on this issue, they're called the Womens Equality Party for ffs. I felt totally betrayed when they threw Heather out.

I would be tempted, but would be held back for the reasons RunRabbit mentions.

I'm also in Scotland, so my membership would be pointless unless they field candidates up here. I'm a Labour party member (I'm clinging on to the hope that we'll get a chance to get rid of Jam Man and let some sanity prevail), and up here they're marginally less daft than the SNP.

CisMyArse · 09/04/2018 20:55

I would consider a membership very seriously. I've considered myself politically homeless for 2 years and am planning on spoiling my next vote, unless some politicians grow a back bone.

I take no pleasure in saying that.

WiltedDaffs · 09/04/2018 21:16

Yes. I wanted to join but haven't because of this.

Wombman · 09/04/2018 22:37

Where do I sign

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 09/04/2018 22:39

Yep but I'd want an apology for heather and a proper definition of woman first.

BarrackerBarmer · 09/04/2018 22:40

No.
They've blown it.
If they had demonstrated integrity along the way I might have supported them as an underdog. As it stands now, a u turn from a party with little political power will do them no good.

I shall wait for one of the real players to realise the scale of motivated and disenchanted female voters and the strength of this single issue. I will vote for the first party that caves and can improve and solidify sex based protections.

Until then, I shall spoil my ballot with #SexNOTgender scrawled on it.

The parties are already noticing this potential female avalanche.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 09/04/2018 22:53

Maybe.

It would have to be a very unequivocal position though, because I have lost trust in them because of how they treated Heather B-E. I think they'd have to publicly apologise to her too and say they completely Got It Wrong.

I can't see that happening, but if it did, I'd join. I would live to see the WEP turn itself around and be the party it always should have been.

This should never, EVER, have been their position. But I don't mind someone learning the error of their ways and admitting they made a mistake. So long as they acknowledge it and explain, and it's not just lip service, then I might join.

I have also been watching SW on twitter with interest the last few days. I wonder if there was any discussion with Sophie and WPUK after the meeting.

Trumpdump · 09/04/2018 23:10

I just read that web chat, my word! Shock

Wtf is the point of this party if they can't even define 'woman'?!?

And no, I wouldn't join. They are clearly too easily influenced.

SirVixofVixHall · 09/04/2018 23:17

Most probably.

PrivatePie · 10/04/2018 01:04

I wouldn't based on the fact WEP put up an unknown candidate in my local area (a Tory safe seat occupied by a misogynist) which risked taking votes from Labour. As it happened it did not affect the outcome, but it could have.

WEP made themselves look like fools. Their recent stance of turning their back on HBE, to me, proves them to be incapable of the one fucking job they had.

JessicaJonesJacket · 10/04/2018 01:10

No.
They consistently champion policies that hurt women from their refusal to protect single sex spaces to prioritising male access to maternity wards. I don't see any attempt to address the needs of working class women and they deliberately split the vote in a Tory seat despite local feminist groups begging them not to stand.
I'm tired of opportunistic parties. I'd like a party with principles please.

Kalikan · 10/04/2018 08:35

I'd certainly consider it given that both other parties I've previously supported - Labour & the Greens - appear to have signed up 100% to the misogynistic TRA agenda.
