I'm blocked by Shon so can't read her tweets, but someone posted this screenshot

That picture of Kurt Cobain is fantastic - the antithesis of Alex Drummond ‘expanding the band with of being a woman’. Cobain and the others mentioned on this thread were actually expanding bandwidths and pushing boundaries of masculinity, all without encroaching on women at all.

AssassinatedBeauty · 30/03/2018 11:16

Just remembered how much I loved The Face magazine. Those were the days. I wish I'd kept them all!

To be fair, it's not just Shon.

I've mentioned in other threads that:

(1) The Guardian is pro-trans to the extent of not providing balanced coverage on the issue; and

(2) comments are rarely allowed on serious subjects. Recipes and restaurant reviews are ok, though.

When comments are allowed they often go against Guardian orthodoxy and editorial policy.

NotTerfNorCis · 30/03/2018 12:19

Yeah I used to be a frequent commentator on the Guardian - not any more. I got sick of my comments being deleted. It feels like having a chat with a censor sitting beside you, ready to shriek 'you can't say that!'

TheChampagneGalop · 30/03/2018 12:29

I agree that the Cobain photo is fantastic. What went wrong after the 90's....?

SmurfOrTerf · 30/03/2018 12:36

For Michael Praed fans Robin of Sherwood is on NOW on ITV encore.
and he's in Emmerdale

Hypermice · 30/03/2018 12:39

What went wrong after the 90's....?

Yeah, I just don’t know. I don’t remember any kind of threshold event. I suspect it’s linked to the web, porn, the web allowing extremists to contact each other more widely, and the strange social climate that’s arisen (fake news/ 24 hour instant news with no thought or fact checking or analysis.) that seems to have played a big role in creating a generation where feelings override reality, and any thought can be expressed into an echo chamber at will, with no mass critical dissent.

I think all these things are linked.

Angryresister · 30/03/2018 12:40

Agree with you.i am so fed up with the bias I the guardian .definitely not balanced

In the 90s I used to know a man who sometimes wore dresses. He was an 'alternative' type but not gay and certainly never said he was a woman. Bet he would now.

SarahSarandon · 30/03/2018 12:48

I lost my account for saying Jane Fae was a man

AssassinatedBeauty · 30/03/2018 12:50

Let's not forget the Manics and Nicky Wire.

HomeTerf · 30/03/2018 12:53

I wonder how many downloads it would take to get one of these songs by a gender non-conforming artist back in the charts?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 30/03/2018 13:02

Sarah
Shocking isn't it? I'm out too. I could be a good girl and delete a tweet but I'm not going to. Going to leave twitter to its echoes.

Hypermice · 30/03/2018 13:14

OMG I’m twitter famous!! Cheers darth :)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/03/2018 14:04

Agree with everybody else saying the internet and ubiquitous porn have a lot to answer for. I go back further than most of you and these are the kind of images that I grew up with.

So I see @Terfblock on twitter is deliberately targeting accounts.

Can I suggest that those of us on twitter start reporting back this account on the basis of targeted harassment.

Just press report, select "it's abusive or harmful", then "includes targeted harassment".

You can then add a number of tweets in the complaint.

There's plenty of tweets to select on that basis as you can see from the screenshot.

For info, terfblock is now blocking over 20k accounts - that's the size of the bubble folks.

The David Bowie clip is wondrous.

The Lennox/Franklin video made me cry. I may have been hanging out here too much.

theoldruggedcross · 30/03/2018 14:43

That The Cure video is a little slice of perfection.

SunsetBeetch · 30/03/2018 14:56

Kurt Cobain had a lot of respect for women (reflected in some of his songs, and I doubt Courtney Love would have given him the time of day otherwise). That's the big difference between him and today's lipstick-and-dress-wearing men.

I am SO glad I was young in the 80s and 90s as opposed to now. (Ooooh just remembered my crushes on Jarvis Cocker and Brett Anderson too ...).

Sure the 90s had Nuts Magazine lad culture, but even that was a damned sight better than today's special brand of misogyny.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g Love those pictures! I think the middle one is actually a Bowie mannequin. I would hug it and love It...Grinl
I saw DB as Ziggy, didnt matter In the 70's what you wore or who you did it to.

What the fuck happened to us!

Can I ask what happens when you report a tweet? Does it link back to you? Do they find out? What’s the deal.
