I'm blocked by Shon so can't read her tweets, but someone posted this screenshot

How can anybody else but me take Robert Smith? I won't have it.

DarthArts · 29/03/2018 22:45

@Caribou58

Hello and welcome :-)

My first crush wasn't at all anything to do with the band below at all. Nothing whatsoever.

DarthArts · 29/03/2018 22:50

Can anyone else remember what this thread was about?

I seem to recall we were talking about someone with nice hair who maybe had a budgie????

Obviously not that significant though. Meh....

GoodyMog · 29/03/2018 22:57

OMG, I actually fancied Matthew Baynton for a while after seeing that Horrible Histories video.

I definitely haven't been trying to get my kids to watch Horrible Histories in order to have an excuse to watch that..

Also, if we're talking men in makeup

Oh I have dated my fair share of men in make up.

They were definitely men though... Wink

CanIBuffalo · 29/03/2018 23:04

See I have never ever dated a man in make up though I've also never dated traditionally 'manly' men.

Terftastic · 29/03/2018 23:19

And whoever mentioned Michael Praed - he was my absolute crush circa 1985. My teenage self adored him.

HomeTerf · 29/03/2018 23:21

My first serious crush was Marilyn.

He had a girl's name and a face full of make up but he was obviously, unmistakeably male.

Just as SF, LM and all the rest of them are now not remotely fanciable though

Terftastic · 29/03/2018 23:23

One good thing about today is that we can reminisce via Youtube etc.

When we were actually living in the Adam and the Ants days you only got to watch the video once a week on TOTP.

DickTERFin · 29/03/2018 23:28

Pretty sure that Adam Ant caused the first stirrings of heterosexuality in my 8 or 9 year old self... the stripe over his nose, the braided jacket...

Exactly this. My 8 year old self has been swooning over these video's - he is such a beautiful man.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 29/03/2018 23:30

Was there a mention of Kurt Cobain in eyeliner

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 29/03/2018 23:30

Unless like me you lived in a house with a Betamax video recorder. I had my own video tape that was filled with clips from TOTP. I used to cut out the presenters much like taping the radio charts on a Sunday night.

I had notes of the positions of all the best stuff and would record over stuff I’d got tired of. Adam ant and the Duran boys always made the cut.

That tape was my pride and joy. The video player broke down and the repair man picked it up to test it...I actually screamed at him to put it (the fuck) down Grin

Terftastic · 29/03/2018 23:36

Eventually, Dontdrink - but not in time for Adam & the Ants sadly.

We did get one in time to record Robin of Sherwood and endless performances of Smiths & Cure on TOTP though.

I can still remember the "oh wow, you've got a video!" thing.

Terftastic · 29/03/2018 23:38

Duran Duran - more "very definitely" men in makeup. Not "girls" just because they wore makeup.

WTF happened to the world?

MumOfTheMoos · 29/03/2018 23:46

I loved it as a teenager when the guys would wear eyeliner - so cool. I really feel for teenagers today, so many labels and imagine being told that because you are gender non conforming you might be in the wrong body - it's tragic.

I know when you're a teenager it's very frustrating to be told that you may not feel the way you are currently feeling (with great intensity) forever but I do find the adults egging them on quite lacking in humanity and compassion.

Terftastic · 29/03/2018 23:52

MumOfTheMoos - Yes, exactly.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/03/2018 23:55

I've had more than one boyfriend who I've shared eyeliner with. Nowadays they'd probably get people asking them for their pronouns, much to their bemusement.

Terftastic · 30/03/2018 00:02

I'm not watching whole episodes of Robin of Sherwood on youtube now - oh no, not at all. I mean who knew there were whole episodes there!

Terftastic · 30/03/2018 00:05

The actress who played Marian was very lovely.

AngryAttackKittens · 30/03/2018 00:09

Michael Praed was my bestie's favorite when we were in high school. Birds of a pretty boy loving feather flock together?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 30/03/2018 00:23

My husband Robert made this just before he made my tea

hipsterfun · 30/03/2018 00:27

The actress who played Marian was very lovely.

I think she’s a gardener now.

Howyoualldoworkme · 30/03/2018 00:34

And as always, Bowie did it first Smile

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 30/03/2018 00:35

I was in the official Adam Ant fan club

Most of the men I dated wore make up in the 80's. All straight though none of them were butch alpha type males. Very sexy indeed. Got to love a man comfortable enough in his own masculinity to wear make up without having to question his gender/sex/sexual orientation.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 30/03/2018 00:36

So wonderfully, wonderfully, wonderfully pretty
