James is going to be discussing trans issues today on LBC. His show is on now - not sure what time the segment will start, but should be good!

And JOB talking about his dds without understanding the effect it could have on them quite frankly proves him to be completely non empathic.

Mumsnut · 20/03/2018 06:26

Does anyone wonder if he was called in by his bosses during the ad break? Perhaps because of a huge number of calls from transactivists? The tone changed completely afterwards, didn't it?

Datun · 20/03/2018 07:56

MistOnTheWater

I don't think one half of the population want the other half to shut up (well, any more than they normally do).

But all the men from that half, who do want it, have suddenly found a way to do it. A way that makes women look bad, not them, and looks like they're being right on and inclusive at the same time.

It's a gift to misogynists everywhere.

ohfortuna · 20/03/2018 10:56

This issue is being discussed on the world service right now

ohfortuna · 20/03/2018 10:57

Hannah is on it 😁

ohfortuna · 20/03/2018 11:02

I think it's on the last section of the world update program on the world service if anyone wants to listen again
they are talking about the man Friday movement

Natsku · 20/03/2018 11:07

Can't find it

Thanks

JessicaEccles · 20/03/2018 13:40

Why does JoB need to escort his daughter in changing rooms? Why can't he just send her into the men's toilet - if men are safe and there is no problem with them being in women's spaces?

Lottapianos · 20/03/2018 13:59

Jessica, because he's a chump who only thinks of himself, and doesn't seem to be able to do any joined up thinking on this issue

JessicaEccles · 20/03/2018 14:04

That's actually the nicer interpretation. A cynic might say he is willing to expose any number of other women to harm- but not his own daughters.

Lottapianos · 20/03/2018 14:47

Jessica, I like your theory too!

Elendon · 20/03/2018 14:58

Because JOB doesn't understand NAMALT.

?

HelpTheTigers · 20/03/2018 15:23

I've just found this thread and (I think) that I'm glad that I didn't hear the James O'Brien interview. TBH, I'd never heard of him until now and he sounds seriously unpleasant and blatantly misogynistic.
Amy and Hannah are incredible and so inspirational. The least that we can do is to help to peak trans other people and to ask / encourage them to sign the petition. I just don't understand why there are so many people who are in agreement out there but apathetic about signing. I can only assume that they are trying to be politically correct and that the trans-lobby have managed to get in there first and spin their (verbal) bollocks. Their female bollocks, of course!

SwearyG · 20/03/2018 17:53

God finally listening to the rest of the show. What a fucking misogynist.

KatherinaMinola · 20/03/2018 18:20

Hannah, I heard you on the piece linked above by Cecily - you're amazing! You sound like a radio presenter, and that's useful in terms of credibility.

I can't find the original JOB interview except behind a paywall.

SwearyG · 20/03/2018 18:30

If you download the app you can listen on catch up for nothing. The app is also free.

Lottapianos · 20/03/2018 19:07

'What a fucking misogynist.'

Yep. But he's the world's biggest feminist in his own mind Hmm Angry

MyOwnShed · 20/03/2018 20:50

Just in case anyone hadn't spotted it...

mirialis · 20/03/2018 22:32

Sweary - thank you for doing both the swimming AND speaking to someone on the radio who did the whole "you sound like someone who thinks all men are rapists" or whatever he said. I thought you did so well and I think the PL incident on the wrightstuff shows that even seasoned and trained "media people" are thrown off course in that scenario, as PL said she was shocked and didn't know how to respond when Anne Hegarty stated a simple fact and said everyone rushed to PL's assistance after, which makes you and Amy doing this without that kind of training and support even more impressive. I think Sarah Ditum is so valuable because of her experienced and highly effective way of dealing with the issue under pressure on tv/radio, but it is also so important to hear from everyday women and I really commend both you and Amy for doing this.

I am not in the UK at the moment but honestly would have phoned in otherwise (though I see Datun was rejected so doubt they'd have had interest in what I had to say anyway) but can honestly say I was itching to ring in and speak and in the past I would never have got as far as wanting to actually dial and go ahead with it - you are an inspiration because it made me realise I can and need to speak up.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 20/03/2018 23:54

Does anyone have a link to the lbc clip with the wonderful Sweary?

StealthNinjaMum · 21/03/2018 09:44

I used to listen to LBC a lot when dc were babies and get really angry, it used to be like the Daily Mail of the air waves with right wing views and narrow minded, uninformed callers. Often very unbalanced 'debate'. Anyway JOB was very much the most reasonable of the presenters (albeit a bit dull to listen to as he loves the sound of his own voice) and the one that my left wing activist friends put on Facebook feeds because of his sympathy for refugees, people neglected by the government, left wing causes etc.

So WHAT REALLY FUCKS ME OFF NOW is a perception that JOB is a reasonable person and therefore we aren't!

Many of my left wing, activist friends would see me as being UNREASONABLE and bigoted just for wanting my own space without penises when I go swimming. I once got flashed at walking home when I was about 25. I wasn't scared because quite frankly there was a naked man in a residential area, I could see he didn't have any weapons, and if anyone was vulnerable it was him. BUT that guy will now just go into a swimming pool and get away with it. Maybe if I saw a flasher and I were naked I would be vulnerable.

And now I would be seen as unreasonable to want my daughters to be able to change without me (and 9 is old enough for my daughter to go into the M and S changing room without a parent as long as that parent is standing by the door JOB you overprotective nob!)

I rarely comment on political issues because since having dc I realise I am uniformed but for fuck sake where is the debate that can make women like me better informed? If I wasn't on mumsnet (spending time on frivolous boards like christmas, housekeeping, style and beauty) I wouldn't have a clue.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 21/03/2018 10:05

We have to protect JOB from seeing a man sprouting newly formed breasts via hormones. Says he couldn't possibly get changed in male areas

JOB says run along into female area with his intact penis etc.

JOB: reasonable ? No he is the one that is phobic of a fellow man he doesn't understand - wishing to grow chest pads' that won't threaten him- penis on the other hand - that could be involved in an assault - well the females have to risk it.

Can't offend JOB and his eyes, by seeing what some men choose to do to themselves.

smithsinarazz · 21/03/2018 11:13

Broader question, do we want to have to supervise our growing kids all the time or do we want them to live in a reasonably safe society so they can have a bit of freedom?
