I'm not sure if there is any defined time for when the response after 10K must be given by.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 08/05/2018 00:58

@VaggieMight
No, it says
"Waiting for 23 days for a government response" [so far]

Wanderabout · 08/05/2018 19:39

Over 11K yey.

Please sign if you want the government to consult with women about whether to remove our sex based rights.

1027 last night and only 10 more today so far. perhaps it will pick up this evening

seafoodeatit · 09/05/2018 15:13

I'm bracing myself for a shitty response along the lines of 'the government is committed to equality bla bla, we recognise there is some concern but the proposed changes take into account the safety of all women'. Some shit to that effect, a load of crap devoid of any substance.

I really, really, really hope I'm wrong but for now I'm not holding my breath.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 09/05/2018 17:57

I signed a petition yesterday called "Free the banana" (it's a plea to reduce plastic packaging). It got 40,000 signatories overnight...
It's a very worthwhile cause, of course, and one I feel very strongly about. But it highlights the apathy regarding the Self ID in a rather depressing way Sad

I think it's partially because its not a massively clear call to action. People don't understand how much the debate is being manipulated and women dismissed and ignored. So the idea of being consulted isn't something that fires people up.

I've just signed. I want to share it on Facebook but I'm not sure what to write with it. The petition doesn't give much detail or even mention the gra.
Most of my contacts will have no clue what this is about.

NoSquirrels · 09/05/2018 23:21

Why did you sign, Zombie? Start there. What’s the thing you’re concerned about?

For me it is changing the law so that “woman” and “man” are available as “identities” not classes of people based on biology or a risk-assessed process. And the lack of debate without fear of being called a bigot or transphobic.

But it’s not a snappy FB status!

Ereshkigal · 09/05/2018 23:24

But it’s not a snappy FB status!^^

I think that's the issue here!

Yes - we need a good soundbite!

ErrolTheDragon · 09/05/2018 23:48

Maybe something like "do you think women and girls' rights, safety, privacy and dignity matter?"

LikeAZombie · 09/05/2018 23:49

Thank you something to think about and I will make a post and share tomorrow.
I signed because I want women's voices to be heard. I want sex segregated spaces to be protected, because men as a class are a danger to women, I believe gender is a social construct we should be dismantling not encouraging. because I don't feel like a woman I just fucking am one.
I'm slightly scared of being called out and twisted into a bigot. Or worse.
I posted on another thread about having my name reported on Facebook so instead of using my initials I have to use my full unique name. The day after I liked fair play for women and this never happens pages. Maybe I'm paranoid but after reading about posie parker and linda it's got me thinking about it again.

LikeAZombie · 09/05/2018 23:51

Thank you errol that's a good start.
