Just spotted on Twitter that Women's Place are holding a meeting in Oxford next month. I don't think the tickets are on sale yet.

Is anyone on here going to go?

Hopefully yes - I’m in Glos and will happily lift share - would prefer to not drive if possible as driving for too long causes me excruciating hip pain.

Alternativefacts · 15/03/2018 21:40

Yes, definitely hoping to go, don’t think tickets on sale yet....

Regressionconfession · 15/03/2018 21:58

I should be able get to this one!!!

Alternativefacts · 18/03/2018 20:30

Anyone else going? 19 people from Henley constituency signed the self ID petition, and 24 from Oxford East, would be great to meet some of you !

jeaux90 · 18/03/2018 20:37

I'm in the Henley CLP. I'm buying a ticket once they are on sale. I went to the Bristol one, it was really good.

Alternativefacts · 18/03/2018 22:06

jeaux90 I’m in the Henley CLP too, looking forward to the meeting

FlorenceLyons · 18/03/2018 22:09

I'd like to go. Do you know where tickets will go on sale?

jeaux90 · 19/03/2018 06:48

Alternative....cool Grin

Be great to meet some allies in the area.

I like the line ‘they sound so reasonable, don’t they?’ Before going on to compare WPUK to the Nazis. Looks like an admission that yes, WPUK are just asking for a reasoned discussion

Trousersdontmakemeaman · 14/04/2018 19:30

Reductio ad Hitlerum is a form of association fallacy

American attorney and author Mike Godwin coined his eponymous law on Usenet in 1990
Godwin's law (or Godwin's rule of Hitler analogies)is an Internet adage that asserts that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hitler approaches that is, if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Adolf Hitler or his deeds. Promulgated by the American attorney and author Mike Godwin in 1990.

Cuntysnark · 14/04/2018 20:24

Got my ticket :-) went to the Birmingham one, it was brilliant.

ArtemisRhodes · 14/04/2018 22:06

Thanks for that, trousers, that is truly very interesting indeed! Reductio ad Hitlerum

Somerville · 14/04/2018 22:13

I'm booked for this. Look forward to meeting some allies.
(It says babes in arms welcome, but is there any risk at all of physical/verbal attack from TRA's? I think I might need to book a 'sitter instead.)

SwearyG · 14/04/2018 23:23

I’ve bought a ticket and will come up from town for it (I really want to meet Dr Nic). Is there going to be a pub plan for beforehand?

cromeyellow0 · 16/04/2018 17:30

@Somerville: I guess that it wouldn't be right to say there's no risk. There was no protest at Cambridge WPUK event, which should be most comparable. But the London WPUK event was protested by a few people and a woman had her glasses snatched (by an Oxford graduate perversely enough!).

If anyone lives locally I've attached a poster in case you'd like to print it out and put it up in a cafe, library, etc:

cromeyellow0 · 16/04/2018 17:32

Oh unfortunately the poster has lost resolution when uploaded.

velourvoyageur · 17/04/2018 08:13

Could I just ask, is it woman only/are libfems welcome? (sorry for stupid Q, not familiar with these events!)

LangCleg · 17/04/2018 08:16

Women, men and trans people are welcome at WPUK events. The only ask is that attendees are respectful, whether they agree or disagree with the speakers.

hackmum · 17/04/2018 08:18

I'm laughing very hard at the idea that the Nazis sounded reasonable. No, they really didn't.

velourvoyageur · 17/04/2018 08:21

Thank you Lang Smile

LifelongVaginaOwner · 19/04/2018 20:38

Ticket booked!

busyboysmum · 19/04/2018 20:42

Anyone can go. They just ask you listen respectfully without heckling. There's a question and answer session at the end.

DebbieInBirmingham · 20/04/2018 00:06

Looking forward to it! Should be a great evening. :)
