Just spotted on Twitter that Women's Place are holding a meeting in Oxford next month. I don't think the tickets are on sale yet.

Is anyone on here going to go?

I'm going, and my Mum is too. This'll be the first gender critical event I've been too, previously I've just lurked on the Femininism board of MN. I'm really looking forward to it.

Typeractive · 20/04/2018 09:17

Oops... meant 'feminism'!!

SwearyGodPervert · 22/04/2018 10:29

Only a few days to go. I was wondering if anyone wanted to have a drink or rendezvous beforehand, safety being in numbers and all. Once the venue is announced I can organise a pub for us to meet in and share by PM.

If you want to message me I’ll add you to my list.

BeUpStanding · 22/04/2018 16:35

I'm thinking of coming up from London to show support... Is anyone considering doing the same?

ReluctantCamper · 22/04/2018 16:42

I'm going (but coming from dahn sarf). Have messaged you sweary.

Cuntysnark · 22/04/2018 17:57

Messaged you Sweary!

SwearyGodPervert · 22/04/2018 18:22

I’m coming up from London too BeUpstanding - thinking of spending the afternoon in the Ashmolean before the meeting. Will be training there and back.

Thanks for the PMs. Will respond.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 22/04/2018 20:11

I'm laughing very hard at the idea that the Nazis sounded reasonable. No, they really didn't.

Yeah. I was at the London one. But it was a bit difficult to hear Lucy Masoud from the back across the massive concrete square and through the massed ranks of Germany's war machine assembled in perfect formation.

Plus the woman in front of me had big hair...

Cunstancemarkiewicz · 22/04/2018 23:38

Grin @certainhalfdesertedstreets

I was at the London one too. Once inside the building all those apparently nice middle-aged lesbians, academics and trade unionists ripped off their clever disguise, revealing their true frothing murderous slogan-barking selves underneath. The endless goose-stepping fairly wore me out, I was glad to get to the pub after.

cromeyellow0 · 24/04/2018 14:42

Looking forward to this!

SwearyGodPervert · 24/04/2018 21:27

I think we have to expect blue hair and balaclavas tomorrow.

It's just all such bare faced lies!

Do the people writing this really believe it? How have they not popped over to check? To talk to people?

I know that when I read stuff that I feel can't be the case, I do a bit of googling to check, how have the people writing this, not done a bit of googling?

Or is it malicious? Are they spouting lies on purpose to defame and discredit us?

Neither option is good for a society from what is supposed to be one of the best universities in the world frankly (and makes me pleased I hated the place and went somewhere rather more rural)

Ereshkigal · 24/04/2018 21:38

We're not even allowed to believe that "gender is a harmful and dangerous concept"!

Ereshkigal · 24/04/2018 21:40

Or is it malicious? Are they spouting lies on purpose to defame and discredit us?

I think there are plenty of useful idiots spreading this bullshit far and wide, but some people are entirely aware of what they are doing.

SwearyGodPervert · 24/04/2018 21:41

I think it’s malicious and intentional.

The students at Oxford are supposed to be the brightest minds we have. That they don’t critically evaluate this - or better research and write something accurate - terrifies me. The girl who shared this on FB is a PPE student and a lesbian. It blows my mind that this is her position on this.

SpartacusReality · 24/04/2018 21:44

That SU announcement is absolute gold. The accusation that those nasty feminists deny that transwomen are real women.. how very dare they.

ScrumpyBetty · 24/04/2018 21:45

I admire the bravery of anyone speaking/ attending these events and hope that tomorrow night goes peacefully. Thank you to all of the women out there speaking up for our rights.

Maryz · 24/04/2018 21:51

Googling Oxford Students' Union Women's Campaign reveals they aren't too keen on free speech Hmm

They also don't seem to be very active. I wonder is there another Women's group in Oxford?

SwearyGodPervert · 24/04/2018 21:58

If anyone coming is a little - or more - unnerved by this PM me and I’ll let you know where we’re meeting beforehand so you don’t have to walk past the protestors and bigots on your own.

whitehandledkitchenknife · 24/04/2018 22:31

Very much looking forward to this. I'm not scared, I'm fucking furious. The need to be dignified in the face of such outrageous imbecility is killing me.

GlomOfNit · 24/04/2018 22:49

Oh shit, looks like it's now sold out. I'm on the waitlist. Sad I dithered about getting a ticket and going for too long.

2rebecca · 24/04/2018 23:04

Have a good evening everyone. The protesters make me more angry than scared. We don't protest at meetings in favour of the GRA. Sad so many students are opposed to free speech and support the principle of thought crime

Wombman · 24/04/2018 23:11

Too late for me too Glom.Shock

Writersblock2 · 24/04/2018 23:13

I hope you all have a wonderful and peaceful event. Stay safe.
