I am about to ID as a man

In 1.5 hours, I will be identifying as a gay man who does not conform with male gender stereotypes. I expect my local leisure facility to comply with the Swim England guidelines and agree that I am entitled to access the men-only swimming sessions, the male showers and toilets and to wear swimming trunks. I also expect them to re-educate any other man who objects to any of the above.

In other words, I have a meeting with the local swimming pool at 10 to see whether or not I’ll be resorting to topless swimming and public nudity tonight in an effort to prove my point that the Swim England guidelines are ridiculous Blush

Wish me luck!

Way to go bro Gin

I was thinking about this the other day and came to the conclusion that Masons & Mosques (& other segregated religious venues) were probably the only two places men would actually give a crap if a woman self identified as a man.

Oh, I don't know - the House of Lords? Eton? King's College boys' choir? Golf clubs?

Ereshkigal · 23/02/2018 10:07

Are you a woman? I'm happy with lesbians and bisexual women changing next to me naked. Just not men. HTH.

Djnoun · 23/02/2018 10:07

And quite a lot of the women I know are bisexual too. It's pretty common, in my experience.

Even to be attacked by a gay woman, which happened to me once when I was sixteen. I still can't bear anyone with mint chewing gum taste in their mouth.

GreenSeededGrape · 23/02/2018 10:08

Following with great interest Smile

DodoPatrol · 23/02/2018 10:08

Or, come to that, the local 'Dads and Tots' group, which meets on Saturdays and gets free bacon butties, whereas the Mums group get to make their own orange squash and pay for the biscuits?

ChristmasCakes · 23/02/2018 10:08

Place marking to see the outcome! Good luck!

Myunicornfliessideways · 23/02/2018 10:09

The whole basis for objecting is that self ID can be vigorously exploited by pisstakers, and protecting the tiny minority of genuine need by enabling said pisstakers is not a reasonable price to ask women to pay. What better way to demonstrate the serious issue of piss takers than by taking the piss?

Djnoun · 23/02/2018 10:09

Similarly, I don't have a problem with anyone changing next to me if they identify as female.

What's your point djnoun?

Myunicornfliessideways · 23/02/2018 10:09

And this is less 'whimsy' than grim fury.

Ereshkigal · 23/02/2018 10:10

Bully for you. I do.

Djnoun · 23/02/2018 10:10

Because by being a pisstaker, you're spreading the idea that pisstakers exist, which rather skews the evidence.

swivelchair · 23/02/2018 10:11

I don't agree that men will automatically be comfortable with female bodies in the mens changing room - there might be some bluster but I suspect most would be quite uncomfortable.

I know for a fact my partner and sons would feel very embarrassed and uncomfortable around random naked women in the changing rooms - because it's happened, and DP went red and shuffled off trying not to look, and DS1 tactfully pulled the door closed (family changing at Center parcs - door came open on someone's cubicle as we were waiting to use one). DS2 didn't notice, but he himself would never be seen in public without trousers - not even in the living room if another member of the family is there, so I know he would hate it.

Djnoun · 23/02/2018 10:11

So go in a cubicle. What's so great about getting changed in the main area anyway.

Lovesagin · 23/02/2018 10:12
Confused
Ereshkigal · 23/02/2018 10:12

Or alternatively males could stay the fuck out of women's spaces? If they had any decency or concern for women.

Married3Children · 23/02/2018 10:13

Golf clubs would be a really good place to do that too.
And with less (physical) exposure from the self Id man too.

And tbh, I’m pretty sure they would absolutely HATE it. You just have to see their reaction to women playing golf in the first place.
Brownie points if you can manage to beat some of them too!!

Butterymuffin · 23/02/2018 10:13

Good luck OP!

swivelchair · 23/02/2018 10:13

Because by being a pisstaker, you're spreading the idea that pisstakers exist, which rather skews the evidence.

In Canada, which has already fully embraced self-id, there has been more than one occurrance of blokes in the ladies changing just because they can now. Pisstakers already exist, they're just usually invading women's space, not mens, so the men don't care yet. This will demonstrate why they might like to start caring.

Djnoun · 23/02/2018 10:14

Except that they can't go in the male spaces because they're a vulnerable group. They're much safer in with us.

Myunicornfliessideways · 23/02/2018 10:14

Pisstakers don't exist???! Seriously you mean you believe they dont exist, or do you hold the TRA line that it's unkind to mention it?
